All these things happened to me in London today I paid nearly £30 for a train ticket to take me into London from a town just 30 miles away —on a Saturday The first person I sat next to, I think from India, decided to have a FaceTime conversation with his friend on speakerphone so we all had to listen to it The train was late by 40 minutes due to unexplained “signalling issues”. It was also filthy. I paid nearly £8 for a pint I offered a woman my seat on the tube without realising she was with a man who intervened and said “no man”. He was not from the UK. I think he took my gesture as an insult. I was asked for money by homeless people 3 times in one day I noticed several people who are paid to give information to taxpayers and tourists over the tannoy on the London Tube cannot speak English properly A cabbie told me “London is dead most nights”, unless you are the global high net worth set or top 1% Restaurants are visibly struggling and often hideously overpriced I had dinner in a neighbourhood where the average rent is £3,663 per month while half of all local social housing has gone to people who were not even born in the UK I was constantly aware I should not get my phone out on the street as 80,000 were stolen last year I also read on the way back while checking that stat that there were 90,000 shoplifting offences in London last year, up 54% My train back —delayed—was suddenly changed at the last minute with all passengers on board. They were told it would no longer be stopping at all stops. I bought a tin of instant coffee on the way home and it had a security tag on it Maybe I’m in a bad mood and perhaps it’s amusing to think how somebody of my political outlook is “triggered” but to me there is a deeper point here London is over —it’s so over It’s a city in visible decline with deteriorating standards and no real sense of identity or belonging Going in and out of our capital city is a truly miserable experience Infrastructure is falling apart, as is the social contract I’ve been coming in and out of London since 1981 I simply cannot remember a time when it’s been this visibly dire and when so many things just do not work as they should

I cannot remember the last time I saw six police officers together in Britain. But here they are, arresting two parents, in front of their children, for complaining about their local school in a Whatsapp group. Britain is completely and utterly lost. It used to be the home of individual liberty; now it’s morphing before our very eyes into an Orwellian nightmare. We need a political revolution to restore common sense. And we need it now.

Imagine waking up in Britain and reading this, which is the equivalent of what Trump is doing on Day 1: -a national border emergency is declared -the military is sent to the Channel to stop the boats -a national priority is established to eliminate organised gangs on British soil and designate them "terrorists" -new powers are granted to allow the swift detain and deportation of anybody entering Britain illegally -all energy constraints including on North Sea gas and oil are removed, Net Zero is effectively put on pause -fully reform the state, including making it clear civil servants who fail to comply with new gvt will be sacked -shut down woke ideology in federal institutions and replace hiring with new merit-based hiring review -force all civil servants back to in-person work -restore full free speech and end federal censorship -remove security clearances of any civil servant who has engaged in shut down of free speech -establish biological sex definitions/bring gender ideology in public institutions to an end -immediately end all 'Diversity, Equity and Inclusion' programmes across government -establish a new department of government efficiency and regain centralised control over all NGO funding -remove all state programmes that increase cost-of-living for British families and consumers

This is how utterly insane the UK immigration system is If you are a British person who wants to bring a foreign partner into the country then they will have to meet a minimum income requirement and show they can support themselves without welfare But if you are an asylum-seeker or illegal migrant who has been allowed to stay in the UK you can bring family members into the UK who do NOT have to demonstrate they have the necessary housing or income to live in the UK without needing welfare and who do NOT even need to speak English We are the architects of our own demise

I am 43 years old. I cannot recall a time in my life when I have been as depressed about the state of Britain and England —a country I love—as I am today. Here are 5 things that happened in the last week alone that point to the terrible future that awaits our once great country unless we urgently and radically change course. 1. In the political system, a group of MPs, many of whom preside over disadvantaged neighbourhoods here in Britain, decided to lobby instead for an airport in … Pakistan … to please their Muslim constituents, thereby continuing to usher in a dark and dangerous sectarianism into our politics that was further reflected this week in the election of “independent” local candidates campaigning not on issues central to Britain but … Palestine. We are heading, slowly but surely, toward a model of sectarian politics that looks more like Lebanon than Britain. 2. In the legal system, a remote, unelected, unaccountable and self-righteous ‘Sentencing Council’ refused a request from elected government ministers to change guidelines that will entrench a two-tier legal system, whereby people from racial, sexual and gender minorities will be treated more favourably than others when handing out prison sentences, thereby violating the principle that everybody in this country should be treated equally before the law 3. In the judicial system, police decided to arrest two parents whose only ‘offence’ was to complain about their local school in a WhatsApp group, with the Orwellian school and police authorities both prioritising the ‘emotional safety’ of a few fragile teachers over the need to uphold free speech and individual liberty in this country. 4. In the immigration system, meanwhile, we learned that 6,000 illegal migrants have now arrived on our shores on small boats in the first three months of this year, 40% up on last year, with crossings happening every day this past week, taking the total since 2018 to 157,000 illegal migrants who are costing struggling British taxpayers upwards of £7 BILLION a year. This isn’t only breaking our laws but is throwing full light on the total incompetence and inability of our politicians and the UK state to control our own borders, keep our own people safe, and maintain our status as a sovereign nation. 5. And in the economy, lastly, this week we learned that our hapless rulers in Westminster are now more interested in helping foreign nationals and illegal migrants than their own people, with a Spring Statement from the Chancellor confirming they are more focused on slashing welfare and support for British pensioners, workers, and farmers, who come from these islands and whose ancestors have contributed to these islands for centuries, than they are on slashing the BILLIONS these same British taxpayers are now being forced to spend subsidising foreigners, illegal migrants, foreign criminals, our broken asylum system, and foreign aid which is still being used to support the likes of eco-farms in Nepal, obese children in China, and LGBT campaigns overseas. Sorry, but enough is enough. The people in power, the people who are presiding over these disastrous decisions, really need to start thinking about where all this is going, where all this is pushing us as a people and a nation. Because it’s increasingly clear, to me at least, that the eventual destination will be a very dangerous, dark and divided place indeed. There is a total lack of strong leadership in this country. We need to change course, now. We need to start putting the British people first, now. And we need to start radically reforming the entire political, legal, judicial and economic system, now. Because unless we do then we are all heading into very serious trouble

In the last 24 hours it has become crystal clear to everybody in the UK that the reason the state took winter fuel payments from British pensioners, raided British family farms, and piled taxes on British businesses was so it could spend billions secretly importing dangerous Afghans into the country while funding welfare for people who are neither British nor even working. It a total violation of the British people’s sense of fairness and fair play. It is outrageous.

I want to know why Axel Rudakubana's father did not stop him. I want to know who these people are and what they believe. I want to know why his father did not march his son to a police station, not least after he found him preparing a school massacre. I want to know how a boy can turn up at school TEN times with a knife and not be sectioned. I want to know why Prevent is not preventing horrific attacks like this one and is clearly no longer fit for purpose. I want to know why the school, social services, the local council, and others did not stop this psychopath despite countless warnings. I want to know why Prevent and the state appear utterly obsessed with the right-wing when 70% of terrorist attacks in this country since 2018 have been Islamist and three-quarters of MI5's caseload is Islamist. I want to know why Westminster and legacy media fell over themselves to share details of other terrorist attacks but went silent over this one. I want to know why Keir Starmer has previously tweeted about attacks on the actual day they occurred calling them "terrorism" but refused to do so in this case. I want to know why the state keeps letting people who murder our children, from Axel Rudakubana to Manchester bomber Salman Abedi, fall through the cracks. I want to know why the media gaslit us by presenting this boy as a nice Dr Who choirboy from the Welsh valleys when they knew he had a long history of violence, had been referred to Prevent, and had ricin. I want to know why Keir Starmer casually branded many people in this country "far right" before they even went to court but now is suddenly obsessed with contempt of court procedure. I want to know why Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner derided people for spreading "fake news" and "conspiracy theories" when they suggested this was linked to terrorism when we now know that SHE knew this guy had been referred to counter-terrorism authorities three times. I want to know why much of the political, media, and cultural class in this country piled in on Nigel Farage, even trying to describe the unrest as the "Farage Riots", when everything he was saying about the truth being withheld was right. I want to know why, even today, they are not apologising. I want to know why Keir Starmer is now trying to convince us there is a 'new' form of lone-wolf terrorism when, from David Copeland in 1999 onwards, this has been obvious to everybody for decades. I want to know why if this had been a white British boy who stabbed three black girls to death and injured many more, who was then later found with far-right literature and ricin, we all know the response from Starmer, Cooper, Rayner and much of the media would have been entirely different. I want to know why Keir Starmer talks about "protecting our children" while *literally* not being able to tell us who is coming into our country through our broken borders and why. I want to know why, as with the rape gangs, nobody in positions of power, in these state authorities, is on primetime news apologising to the country. And I want to know why we are now having this utterly ridiculous debate about Amazon, 'buying knives online' and social media when, in reality, what this is about is how our leaders continue to let masses of people into our country from high conflict, highly violent societies who do not think like us, do not act like us, do not share our values or respect our laws, and do not care about us. Yesterday, Keir Starmer said he is "drawing a line in the sand". He should start by apologising to the people of this country for how he and his government have handled Southport as well as the rape gangs, both of which will now go down in history as powerful symbols of the total incompetence and inability of the state to keep us safe. And then he should announce he is ending the extreme policy of mass uncontrolled immigration which is destabilising our communities and nation, will do whatever necessary to fix our broken borders, will completely overhaul Prevent, will actually develop an integration strategy for this country (we do not have one!) and will start treating hardworking, taxpaying British people with the respect and decency they deserve by authorising major inquiries into not only Southport but the rape gangs. That would be a start. We want to know the truth. And we want to change the direction of our country.

If you want to know how utterly insane the UK is right now read this: Last year, a man named Shahidul Haque, 55, who is on benefits, claims he is "disabled" because of "obstructive sleep apnoea" and depression, and cannot speak English, was moved into a retirement home in Berkshire. A retirement home. His rent? £110 a week. A few months later, he brought his 28-year-old wife and two children into the retirement home, claiming he did not know he was not allowed to do this because he cannot speak English and read tenancy documents. After the elderly neighbours complained about anti-social behaviour and sought his eviction, Shahidul Haque said he should not be evicted because it would be a breach of his "human rights". His lawyers are using the European Convention on Human Rights to try and prevent his eviction. Our "leaders" are giving foreigners who do not speak English subsidised housing in retirement homes for our elderly because they claim to have "depression". This is insane. This has to stop.

Today, a number of prominent journalists criticised my suggestion that the UK media class has failed to sufficiently cover the rape gangs scandal, which will go down as one of the biggest scandals in our history So, I decided to take a closer look at the data. Trust me, you'll want to read until the end First, the boring bit. How did I do it? I used something called Lexis, a database researchers use to search content across UK newspapers Every good researcher out there knows how to use it so they can duplicate my work and check One of my critics today said my use of "grooming gangs" in my initial numbers was misleading because much of the coverage in UK newspapers uses "grooming gang" not "gangS". OK then, let's use that And let's just look at articles that are specifically about this scandal and don't just mention it in passing What did I find? Let's look at the years 2011-2025 because before that, even though the rape gangs scandal goes back decades, there was NOTHING in UK media. Nothing. They didn't touch it AT ALL --despite widespread rumours pushed by groups like the BNP and EDL 2011 is a crucial year because it's when renegade and HERO Andrew Norfolk, at The Times, started to write the first early pieces, despite abuse & harassment First, let's look at ALL UK newspapers In 2011-2025 there were 4,659 articles specifically focused on the "grooming gang" phenomenon Wow Sounds a lot right? Remember the number. "Grooming gang" = 4,659 But now let's compare that with how much coverage the media class gave to other scandals and terms "white privilege" = 6,146 "anti-Muslim" = 17,152 "post office" and "horizon" =20,274 "extreme right" = 21,252 "Islamophobia" = 23,461 "Greta Thunberg" = 22,717 "expenses scandal" =25,585 "Stephen Lawrence" = 29,808 "anti-racism" = 34,484 "Windrush" = 35,515 "George Floyd" = 38,824 "Black Lives Matter" = 59,338 "Grenfell" = 71,422 "Britain" and "racism" = 75,693 "Net Zero" = 141,367 "far right" = 231,540 "racism" = 382,069 I could go on. I think the numbers speak for themselves. Relative to other scandals and amid a strong liberal bias in parts of the media class, the mass rape of young, working-class white girls & women just wasn't a priority Yes, there were newspapers that broke the story and pushed it, like the Times in 2011 But even there, the 440 articles built around "grooming gang" between 2011-2025 is dwarfed by, say, the 2,868 on "Islamophobia", the 3,202 on Stephen Lawrence, the 2,603 on George Floyd, or the 5,524 on BLM My point is not to bash individual newspapers but to say that relative to other race-related stories and debates, the rape gangs scandal --ARGUABLY THE BIGGEST SCANDAL IN OUR HISTORY-- has received very little coverage from the media class I'd give you the numbers for liberal progressive papers like The Guardian/Observer but frankly they're absurd Oh ok then Between 2011 and 2025 the Guardian had 113 articles on the grooming gang phenomenon compared to 3,325 for "Islamophobia" What about the BBC? We can look at BBC News 24 and BBC Radio 4 There were 357 specific mentions of the "grooming gang" scandal in BBC News/Radio 4 transcripts Meanwhile, there were 7,537 for "George Floyd", 3,219 for "Stephen Lawrence", 7,416 for "Black Lives Matter", and 2,259 for "Islamophobia" You get the picture. I won't keep going But what I will say is this. These girls were never a priority in Media Land Relative to other scandals they were at first ignored and then downplayed Too many of the middle-class, Oxbridge-educated, socially liberal if not radically woke progressive elites who control the parameters of what they think is our national "debate" routinely steer clear of scandals and issues that violate tightly-controlled taboos around immigration, multiculturalism, "diversity" in all its forms, and which are backed up with alarmist narratives about the "far right" and "Islamophobia" to warn others off from asking difficult questions or challenging the elite consensus in Westminster and London This HAS to change As I wrote in my Substack this morning, @elonmusk has done Britain a favour by forcing us to reckon with a truly NATIONAL scandal that has for too long been ignored and pushed to the side by political, media, and cultural elites in wider society This past week, we have been pushed into a new era in which millions of people up and down this country are either learning about the rape gangs crisis for the first time or hearing shocking new details they did not know before and can scarcely believe And millions of people are now asking some enormous questions. How did our country let this happen to our children? Why was it overlooked? Why did so many people stay silent? Is it still happening today? What can we do to stop it? Who is pursuing the truth in media? Who is naming and shaming? And why does the UK media class fall over itself when a single American man dies in Minneapolis while seemingly not giving a shit about the thousands of CHILDREN who have been abused, raped and harassed here in Britain? The people have tuned into this scandal, in other words. They have taken notice and they are watching. The only question now is whether the media class has bothered to notice and will actually get on top of this scandal and push it to front of the agenda or continue to ask ridiculous questions like it did for much of today, deflecting from its glaring failures to instead obsess about Elon Musk. Find the truth and tell us the truth. That's your job.

Something revealing happened on Question Time last night ... We had a debate about the small boats. As I say in the clip below, Labour Ministers like Jacqui Smith who claim Labour is fixing the crisis are lying to you. They say they are fixing the crisis but they are not. The number of boats is rising. Our borders are out of control. We don't know who is coming into the country. And you, the British people, are having to pay the price —£5.4 billion every year to be exact and some £234 billion in the coming years if we let them stay. So despite people trying to shut me down I said what I said below because the British people deserve to be told the truth The ONLY way we can fix this mess is by leaving the European Convention Human Rights, reforming the Human Rights Act and having a deterrent. Then, when the credits were rolling, I turned to Smith, a Labour Minister, and asked: "why are you lying to the British people?" She replies: "oh do shut up". A Labour government minister. It will all be on tape. The key point is not my irritation but this: they don't care. They don't care about lying to you. They don't care about evidence which shows their plan is failing. All they want to do, like the left always does, is shut down alternative views. Speak the Truth. And call them out. Always.

What our 'leaders' will never talk about: In the last week alone, in the UK, in just one week, we've gone from reading about the 27-year-old mother Rhiannon Whyte, stabbed in the head 20 times by an illegal migrant from Sudan, to Wayne Broadhurst, stabbed to death by an illegal from Afghanistan while walking his dog, to a small boat illegal migrant stabbing a stranger to death in a bank in Derby, to a migrant from Afghanistan strangling a railway worker over a minor ticket dispute, to a Syrian illegal migrant sexually assaulting a student in Cardiff, to illegal migrants chasing migrant hotel workers with knives "because they didn't like the food", to 10 people suffering a mass stabbing on a train at the hands of two Black "British" men for no apparent reason. Why is this happening? Because our so-called 'leaders' have been importing millions of people from highly violent, conflict-ridden, and, yes, inferior 'honour cultures' from the Third World, where settling grievances through violence is standard As the academic Garrett Jones points out in his book: "When a nation imports people, it imports the average cultural traits of those people". Mass uncontrolled immigration is not just the importing of people; it is the importing of cultures And the cultures we are importing are not just radically different and incompatible to our own but are visibly inferior, primitive, stuck in cultural codes and practices we moved on from hundreds of years ago It is, to quote @GadSaad, "suicidal empathy" --our leaders think they are helping these people when in fact they are killing their own society, country and people from within None of this can be said in Westminster where universal liberalism --"all cultures are equal"--reigns supreme. This is what you saw on Question Time this week, when I was widely attacked by a liberal ruling class that cares more about helping people from backward cultures than defending its own people But it's effects can clearly be seen in the extent to which 1st and 2nd generation migrants here in the UK, who we are told are "British", "nice boys from Cardiff", turn out to be highly violent criminals, continuing the cultural traits from their origin countries Again, nobody in Westminster wants to think about this point about culture But look: 2025 Manchester synagogue terrorist Syrian parents 2024 Southport terrorist Rwandan parents 2021 Liverpool terrorist Born in Iraq 2021 Sir David Amess terrorist Parents from Somalia 2020 Reading terrorist Born in Libya 2020 Streatham terrorist Parents from Sri Lanka 2019 Usman Khan terrorist Parents from Pakistan 2017 Manchester MEN terrorist Libyan parents 2015 Leytonstone terrorist Born in Somalia 2013 Lee Rigby/Woolwich terrorist Parents Nigerian 2007 London/Glasgow terrorists Iraqi/Indian parents 2005 "homegrown" 7/7 terrorists Shehzad Tanweer, parents from Pakistan Mohammad Khan, parents from Pakistan Hasib Hussain, parents from Pakistan Germaine Lyndsay, born in Jamaica No other society in the world would tolerate this --would do to its own people what our leaders are doing to us Could you imagine, say, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, China doing this? Of course not. Because they are not idiots; they do not tolerate suicidal empathy. Through mass immigration, porous borders and a total failure to integrate newcomers, our leaders have made us much less safe and put our own people at risk These migrants do not instantly adopt the host country's 'British' or 'English' culture and identity the moment they sign a few papers Far from it They retain central aspects of their origin countries --including religion, belief, attitudes toward violence, hatred of non-believers, and so on This is what the rape gang scandal was about; we imported clan-based networks from rural Pakistan that think non-believers are fair game and distrust authority The vast majority of radical Islamists in Britain were either born abroad or trace their roots back on these islands only one generation, while living in 'closed' social networks filled with other people from their origin countries, which reinforce these different cultures This is then further enabled by an idiotic ruling class and woke left that pursues virtue and social status for itself by proclaiming platitudes like "diversity is a success" while also having to use speech codes --"far right", "racist", and so on--to shut down any dissent Then it uses multiculturalism to encourage minorities to remain distinctive and separate from the majority, even prioritising them over the majority It is all completely insane This is what the UK has now been doing for 30 years, under Labour and the Tories, the Uniparty, importing radically different if not incompatible cultures which then persist across generations And today this is being compounded by importing 180,000 unvetted illegal migrants into the country in just 7 years, with another 180,000 forecast to arrive by the next general election if the average trend continues Just think about that --by the next election we will be talking about 400,000 unvetted illegal migrants roaming around the country, many from the same highly violent, conflict-prone societies as the ones that have given us all of the chaos above And so in the years ahead this chaos will only increase, it will only get worse, because our leaders refuse to see this reality and make changes In short, every terrorist attack, every stabbing, every rape, every sexual assault, every rape gangs, is a reminder of the fact our leaders, who are supposed to defend us, are importing people who hate who we are and cling to totally different cultures, identities, and outlooks, all of which is making our own culture, identity, and social cohesion harder to maintain We can either keep ignoring the critical importance of culture or we can do something about it What would "doing something about it" look like? Radically reshaping our country and its future around people who have deep roots and ties to this country Rewarding those who genuinely integrate, removing those who do not Ending the extreme policy of mass uncontrolled immigration Doing whatever is necessary to fix our borders --leave ECHR, repeal HRA, detain and deport End soft-on-crime policies Launch an all-out assault on radical, violent Islamism We have a choice. We can do these things or we can keep killing ourselves from within.

A very emotional moment at the Reform party conference today as a very brave survivor of the rape gangs explains how she was locked up in a flat and abused by gangs of Muslim men, how the police knew, and how the only man who was ever arrested during her abuse was her own father who, trying to find his daughter, called the police more than 200 times and was arrested when he tried to save her. She said she wants a national inquiry @Keir_Starmer, she wants the dots joined together, she doesn’t think past inquiries go anywhere near far enough, she wants this to be treated as organised crime, she wants better data on the ethnicity of perpetrators and she wants action … NOW.

Farage claims on grooming scandal the mainstream media “did their best not to cover it.” That is rabble rousing and simply not true. The Times led with investigations. The Mail, Sun and Mirror and others were all over the story for years. The BBC ran documentaries in prime time.

EXCLUSIVE. I've just been sent this by ex-Conservative MP for Telford, Lucy Allan, who was the MP for Telford 2015-2024. This is what happened when she tried to investigate grooming gangs. Unreal🤐🤐🤐 "The horrific crimes perpetrated against vulnerable girls in towns and cities across our country, by groups of Pakistani men, are now finally out in the open. I feel huge sense of relief that finally Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) can no longer be hidden away as a shameful secret by those in authority. It has been a long and struggle to get here. When I started speaking out in Parliament about CSE in 2016, having met Telford victims, the push back was swift and robust. There was coordinated official response by people in positions of power. The Telford Council Leader (now Telford’s [Labour] MP [@ShaunDaviesMP]) immediately published a letter to the Home Secretary stating that no inquiry into CSE was necessary. He backed up his assertion with claims that we now know were false. Multiple senior figures were asked to be co-signatories to his claims, to lend authority to them and they all readily agreed. The Council Leader and his councillors, instead of trying to right wrongs, set about discrediting the messengers; not just me but investigative journalists and victims, even claiming one victim was coming forward so she could sell her story. I was accused of lying, causing division, racism, being unbalanced, irrational, stupid and motivated not by desire to help victims but to score political points. This narrative was relentlessly pushed for as long as I campaigned on the issue. It had the intended effect of ensuring that the voice I sought to be for victims would not be heard. Early on I had an unexpected visit from the Chief Constable of West Mercia Police and the Police and Crime Commissioner. The Chief Constable was disparaging about Rotherham MP Sarah Champion [@SarahChampionMP] suggesting she was exaggerating the issue and was discredited. He said: “you wouldn’t want to be known as a troublemaker like Sarah Champion. It will harm your reputation and career.” The then newly minted Junior Minister for Safeguarding, Vicky Atkins MP [@VictoriaAtkins], told me not to speak to the media on the subject as ‘you do not understand the issues.’ I was summoned by Conservative Peer Baroness Warsi [@sayeedawarsi] to explain myself. Then there was the repeated refrain that as 90% of child abuse is committed by white men in domestic settings, why didn’t I concern myself with that as it was a more significant problem. This was a blatant denial of the existence of groups of interrelated men of Pakistani heritage, preying on young girls, at school gates, in takeaways, taxis and playgrounds. They did not want to know. Then there was the appalling victim blaming, referring always to the victims’ ‘risky behaviours’ and the fact that the victims had ‘sought contact with multiple males.’ In one case a young victim was described to me by police as ‘having been in contact with 53 different Asian males’ as if it were by choice, illustrating complete denial that these men were related to each other through cousin marriage and were engaged in a joint enterprise. I thought the desire by the authorities to hush it up was to disguise shortcomings in the organisations they led. But now I know it wasn’t just that: the people in power believed that being honest about what had happened would fuel racial tensions. They pushed a narrative that hiding the problem was in the interests of the community that looking the other way would cement social cohesion and protect society. I know now that that this was the line pushed by Home Office officials themselves. Junior ministers both Conservative and Labour have spun the same lines almost word for word, clearly at the behest of Civil Servants. People have accused Telford’s Council Leader of a cover up. It is more complicated than that. His public statement saying no inquiry was necessary was signed by him, but I do not believe it was written by him. Whist he may have been willing to collude with officials to protect his career, he was not the instigator of the pretence. Public denial of these horrific crimes was the standard response by officials both locally and in Whitehall. It takes bravery for a politician to speak up and the repercussions can be costly. If Telford’s Council leader had been courageous, if he had done the right thing, it is unlikely he would be in Parliament now sitting on the Home Affairs Select Committee, tasked with holding the Home Office to account; perhaps in it was more cowardice and self-interest than cover up. The denial strategy may be motivated by good intentions, but it is fatally flawed. At best, it is an insult to victims and to all fair-minded people. At worst, it is a deeply divisive, dishonest policy that destroys our social fabric and the social contract between State and individual. Officials have actively sought to hide reality from politicians and too many politicians are willing to collude. We know now we have been routinely lied to by the State and now we can no longer trust the State. Lucy Allan was the Conservative MP for Telford 2015-2024 and a campaigner on Child Sexual Exploitation throughout her time in Parliament.
