Front Line Defenders strongly condemns WHRD Dr. Mahrang Baloch being prevented from traveling to the US to attend @TIME's #TIME100Next ceremony recognising her important work on Baloch human rights.
Today, I was scheduled to travel to New York to attend @TIME Magazine's gala, where I was invited alongside other leaders named as TIME’s Most Influential Emerging Leaders of the Year. However, I was unjustly stopped at Karachi International Airport with no legal or valid given reason, which is a clear violation of my fundamental right to freedom of movement.
This action reflects the growing fear and insecurity of the state toward Baloch voices. There was no legitimate purpose for preventing my travel, except to silence Baloch voices from being heard internationally, control the flow of information about the situation in Balochistan, and conceal the decades-long human rights abuses occurring in Balochistan.
By denying me the right to travel, the Pakistani government seeks to prevent me from exercising my freedom of expression and rights to movement. This arbitrary travel ban is part of the increasing crackdown on Baloch human rights defenders and activists. I will fight back against this unjust restriction on my rights to movement.

▶️We stand in solidarity with Baloch human rights defenders and call for an immediate end to the violence, harassment and brutal killing of peaceful protestors.
At this moment, our peaceful sit-in in Quetta, Balochistan, is facing a brutal and unjustified crackdown by state security forces. Dozens of our companions, including women, have been arrested, and their whereabouts remain unknown. The security forces are resorting to indiscriminate firing and heavy tear gas shelling, creating a suffocating atmosphere that has severely affected the health of many peaceful protesters, including elderly individuals and children present at the demonstration.
Additionally, a complete communication blackout has been imposed in Quetta, with mobile networks and internet access deliberately cut off to prevent information from reaching the outside world. Security forces have also launched raids in nearby areas, arbitrarily arresting more activists and intimidating families.
This violent suppression of peaceful dissent is a blatant violation of fundamental human rights. I urge all advocates of justice, human rights organizations, and the international community to take immediate notice of this brutality and hold the responsible authorities accountable.

Today, the trial of HRDs Áine Treanor, Aindriú de Buitléir and Eimear Walshe, is set to commence at Ennis Circuit Court in Ireland.
The HRDs are charged with “trespassing” under the Public Order Act and “interfering with the operation, management and security of an airport” under the Air Navigation and Transport Act 1998.
The charges were brought against the HRDs for a peaceful protest in which they entered the runway of Shannon Airport in Ireland to raise awareness of the airport’s use by the US military on 30 March 2024. If convicted, they may face a fine up to €250,000 and imprisonment of up to two years.
Front Line Defenders calls on authorities in Ireland to ensure that all charges against the HRDs are reviewed with a view to dismissal, given that their actions were peaceful and undertaken in defence of human rights.

The second court hearing pertaining to a case I submitted before the Sindh High Court was held today. During the previous hearing, the honorable court issued notices to the Defense Minister, the FIA, and other relevant officials, and notified them to appear and submit their responses. However, none of the officials appeared before the honorable court during the second hearing. The court has now scheduled the next hearing for next week.
This is very unfortunate and highlights the impunity that law enforcement agencies in this country possess. They continue to disregard not only the courts but also the law and the Constitution.
