A true driving force in the software testing and quality domain. I’m a tester, automator, speaker, writer, teacher, strategist, leader, and a friendly human.
I’m on that list. I’m most definitely not comfortable with that line up at all, nor is my company.
I hadnt even looked at any of it since accepting.
I’ve just emailed them to cancel my attendance, thank you for bringing this to attention.
Wearing his own clothes for the first time today 👕🦖
Big love for @tu_clothing at Sainsbury's for partnering with @Blisscharity to make premature baby clothes 🙏
Guess who weighs 1.8kg/4lbs...
FINLAY!!!
That's his last milestone for being considered to go home 🏡
Doctors will discuss a plan tomorrow 📝
So excited!
Flight attendant:Is there a doctor onboard?
Dad: *nudging me* that should've been you
Me: Not now Dad
Dad: Not asking for a Selenium Tester to help, are they?
Me: Dad, there's a medical emergency happening right now
Dad: Go and see if “your locators are probably wrong" helps
☺️
There is nothing anatomically wrong with Finlay's liver, so no surgery needed.
Consultant reckons his symptoms are due to his prematurity, and has suggested some medicine to dilute his bile, and a slight diet change to include fats that the intestines can digest.
SO HAPPY!
Finlay had a very good night.
He's now off all his blood pressure medication 💪. Blood pressure and oxygen are stable.
He has a slight temperature 🌡️ they hope to identify the cause today.
He's hugging his bonding square ♥️
Finlay update!
Feed has increased and he's moved to two hourly feeds. Had a few vomits, so a tiny amount of gaviscon is added to his milk 🍼
He wore clothes for the first time today, he's not sold on them yet! 😍
No, the 👏🏼 on this occasion should go to you, and @Julieanne 👏🏼 for letting me know about your tweet.
I’m devastated about it. My speaking requirements have immediately been updated, and future engagements checked!
Yay! It’s done.
Basic C# course added!
The following are all now on the #AiT site.
- Basic Programming Course
- Basic Java
- Basic C#
- Basic Javascript/Node.js

Finlay has been moved to St Mary's in Manchester, he requires level 3 care and is now at the best of the best in the area.
He has Pulmonary Hypertension. They are working to open his lungs.
❤️
Finlay is 1.398kg, his heaviest weight thus far by 1g, recovered what he lost, and heading in the right direction ↗️
He's also had his cannula removed from his foot 👣
Finally, he's also off his wee oxygen boost and saturating perfectly at 💯 in good old pure air.
However hard you think conference organisers work, double it, and then double it again.
As speakers we can really reduce this work by responding promptly and treating the team behind the conference with respect.
Majority are trying to make everything easier for you, be kind.
Your automated checks need to be TRIMS...
T - Targeted
R - Reliable
I - Informative
M - Maintainable
S - Speedy
If they aren’t the above, go and TRIM them...
Finlay is doing very well.
He's tolerating milk again which is great, as he hasn't put on any weight the last week. He's up to 4ml an hour now 🍼
He's still super tiny! He needs to do the opposite of his dad now and put on a few lbs!
We've had many more cuddles 🤗
Finlay had a good night.
He's coming down on his nitric oxide which he's needed to help dilate blood vessels in his lungs to help him breath. From 20% to 1.2% as he produces his own.The last 1.2% will be slowly decreased in the coming days.
Getting some skin time with Sarah ♥️
He's home!
After 49 days in hospital, the wee guy is home, just in time for Christmas 🎄🎁
Still on some meds and have to go back for blood tests and other check ups, buy he's home 😁
The BBC have built a bot called Dora, it shares a persona each Friday morning and tags two random team members who are tasked with doing some exploratory testing using the persona.
Pretty cool! #testbash#buildthebbc
All pyramids have a base, but the ‘test automation pyramid’ is often drawn as a triangle, missing this important part. No matter what you label the sides as and how big you make each section, at the base of them all is testability.
Playing with some visualisations
Today he's responding really well and is back on a normal ventilator, and may even be given some breast milk instead of his drip food.
He's also been taken off his sedation meds, and is starting to move again, he's a riggler!
He opened an eye this morning ❤️
Great step for Finlay today as he had his long line removed! Replaced by a cannula in his foot.
His food intake is still increasing, but still no 💩! Poop Finlay, poop!
He's requiring a little bit of an oxygen boost in his ambient air, but tiny amounts.
Overall doing good 💪
Finlay is doing well today, we've had lots more crying and we've both had cuddles 🤗
He had a slight stomach infection, so they stopped his milk intake, but his latest cultures have came back clear.
They started him on 1ml an hour again and so far so good 🍼
Hey @ArianaGrande, not sure you'll see this, but if you do,thank you so much for sending our little boy a Christmas gift. He's just been discharged from the neonatal unit at Wythenshawe (Manchester) hospital after 49 days.
Super nice of you and your team.
Thank you from us all 💖
Eeeeeekkkkkkkkkkk, so happy I can finally share this!
The first conference I ever attended was #SeConf, London 2012.
At SeConf London 2019…..
I WILL KEYNOTE!

We did it!
@ministryoftest made a profit this year.
With our commitment to building in public, here's a thread explaining why this is such a big deal, and how that money is going to be used. 🧵
Finlay went back to Royal Manchester Children's Hospital today and received some excellent news.
His PDA has closed up as hoped and expected 💪
He's also now 3.5kg / 7lb11 ⚖️
Finlay took a small step back last as he suffered a small bleed on his lungs. Doctor say it's not uncommon. He is stable again.
On the positive side he's done two 💩's!
They are focusing on a steady day today ♥️
The stuff they can do is incredible.
Yesterday, Finlay was moved to an oscillating ventilator, which provides short tiny breaths, to help open his lungs.
This makes him shake, so cute!
He's responded really well to this and his oxygen supply has gone from 100% to 25% 💪
Finlay is continuing to do really well. He's growing and putting on weight, slowly, but it's the right direction. 📈
He's very close to being cot weight, which is 1.5kg. The temp in his incubator is slowly being reduced to ready him for that and he gets dressed every day now 😍
As a tester who now spends 50% of their time as a front-end developer, I'm being sent some bad bug reports.
So, here are 10 tips for communicating bugs 🧵
I've said it before, and I'll say it again.
Selenium is not a testing tool. It can be used with many other things to create a testing tool, but alone it is not. So, stop comparing it to tools that are specifically designed to do automated testing of Web applications.
It's Monday!
Here's a picture of Finlay from this morning drowning out all negative Monday vibes and bringing some joy to you all.
* the headphones were turned off.
ALT A picture of Finlay with a hugely cute smile with Bose QC35s on. They were turned off!
X: My company won't send me to conferences or buy me learning platforms.
Me: Have you asked them?
X: No, they won't send me.
Me: Ask them, if you believe they'll say no, you have nothing to lose. Test it!
X: Hmmm OK.
* varying period of time *
X: OMG, THEY SAID YES! THANK YOU!
Sigh, you can't do anything right sometimes
Being criticized for my announcement on cancelling TestBash Brighton
You try writing it. You try writing about having to cancel your main event, the same week as cancelling another. Having watched your team plough everything in to them
Finlay update and pics 😁
He's 2.63kg/5lb12oz now ⚖️
Gaining about 33g a day 🍼
Conjugated bilirubin levels are normal ✅
Gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) levels have halved 💉
Haemoglobin is still low, but has improved 📈
Sleeping on his own more, but needs to be better 🛌

Twelve years ago today my brother took his own life. 💫

Today we visited @RMHCUK Manchester to unveil Finlay's sponsored room.
Due to the generosity of friends, family and the community we raised £5000 which means a sponsored room for a year.
Finlay has settled straight into Wythenshawe, had a very chill night.
Needed a bit of ambient oxygen during the night, but not surprisinga after being moved here.
His lungs will take a few weeks to heal and regenerate after the breathing tube.
We took Finlay for a very short stroll this morning to get some supplies and test his buggy as the car is snowed in (steep drive).
Ralph was a very good boy walking alongside.
😍
SO BASICALLY YOU NEED TO COME IN AND DOUBLE QUALITY. THERE IS NO UNIT TESTING, AUTOMATION FRAMEWORK IS 6 MONTHS INTO BEING BUILT. DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION IS ONGOING, THE PEOPLE ARE LOVELY, BUT HAVE ALL CHECKED OUT. ALSO WE USE JIRA, EXCEL & K8S. OH AND WE USE WINDOWS LAPTOPS
Finding myself getting frustrated with all this 'UI Tests' are slow chat. I'm not a semantic person, I can just about spell it. But let's be clear about 'UI Tests'. When most complain about them they means tests that start with an interaction on the UI.
Visiting Finlay soon, share his update later.
Sarah has been discharged 🤗
I'm aware of it which is good, but I've entered an angry phase of dealing with this. Why us? Why Finlay? What did I do? Silly I know, but all part of dealing with this.
Cheers to @rosiesherry, the whole @ministryoftest team, all the #testing community who have supported me, and importantly to the future of MoT and the craft of testing. #BossBoss
You did it. You actually did it.
Last year you set the bar higher than it had every been for an online conference.
This year you raised it. You are all incredible.
Wow, #TestBash Home 2021 was absolutely incredible.
Thank you all.
Meet my incredible mum(old pic she wouldn’t take a new one,not had her hair done!).On Xmas day three years ago my mum was sectioned, she’s long suffered with her mental health.
She’s been home for 2.5 yrs, last week her and docs mutually agreed home care is no longer needed. ⭐️
Me and my dad renovated the whole of our first home this year and I never shared the kitchen. We did the whole thing ourselves (apart from gas 🔥).
I'm really proud of it, was hard work! So here are some before and after shots.
