In a month or so when you ask ... did we have any nice spring days? ... I will refer to this picture as exhibit a. Hard to imagine a nicer spring day than what we are enjoying today.
Hello old friend, been a while. I know I said some mean things back when it seemed you would not go away but I’m glad you are back. Hope to see again soon.
Hazard of working with numbers trends averages and extremes ... I count and record. Today was my 20,000 live weathercast. Been a great experience to see the growth and advancements at… instagram.com/p/Bps_gvuBTtQ/…
If there is an upside to working through dinner to monitor radar and track storms it is when dinner is delivery and that delivery is the great Italian salad from Primos. A personal favorite.
The newest member of the WSIL Weather team is on board. Jacie Brianne is an old friend and former intern. Welcome home Jacie, good to have you on the team.
Stay in studio is the same as stay at home ... right? The Storm Track 3 team is geared up to keep everyone informed this afternoon and evening. We expect storms to develop and race through that could produce damaging winds. #beaware
Shout out to every member of the @WSILNews team that helped cover this winter storm, especially @NickHausenWx & his photographer Matt Vanderbilt for braving the 0º windchill and drifting snow to provide great insight … you can see the pain in his face from the cold.
Biggest flakes I have seen today. Going to be some slick spots on area roads and wind chills could be below 0 when you head out in the morning. #beaware
A great friend of News 3 Weather dropped by to hang out with @NickHausenWx and me for while this afternoon and brought treats that make the tastiest partly cloudy ⛅️ I’ve seen. Thanks JD & happy holidays.
I have this ... well ... it’s an obsession with timelapse imagery. My TL camera has been pointed on this storm all afternoon. Hoping I get to share a good one later.
Farmers & gardeners get your gear ready. The break we have all been looking for is in the charts. Arriving Sat. & running out to midweek next week an overall warmer & drier period is likely. Motorists #beaware there will likely be an increase of farm equipment on area roads.
Got to meet Clayton this morning. He is a big fan of weather and says his favorite Weather is when he can ride his 4 wheeler. Nice to meet you Clayton.
As soon as I walked outside this morning, 1 of the most humid days I have measured in the last 10 years, my immediate thought was “where is the front, where is the relief?” Looked at a lot of maps and I don’t see it anywhere in the next week to 10 days for SIL. #airthatyouwear
The good news is: the arrival of the cold front is accelerating in the FX … the even better news: we should start to feel a break from the heat Friday & heat and humidity should both be down for the weekend.
my recorded low for this morning is 71 … my records show a normal high today of 71 & 71 is the warmest low I have recorded in October in my 30 years of records at WSIL and only the 2nd time for an October low to be warmer than 69.
surveys split storm track into 3 tornadoes for Tuesday evening event in Williamson/Saline counties .. 30 mile path had nearly 25 miles of tornado track split between EF1 & EF2 … my favorite statistic of the night is no serious injuries.
there are some big numbers in my outlook today and they are not all attached to chances for rain …. guidance package strongly suggesting we could see some 70s by late next week … if we can just hang in there a few more days … SPRING.
Chatted with old friends, made new friends, handed out a lot of candy and brought home some hardware. Overall a pretty good day in Murphysboro at Apple Festival. #milesofsmiles
there will be a lot of internet noise this week about a snowstorm for SIL Fri/Sat … guidance presenting a southern track storm which in general presents potential for big events somewhere close but also potential for big missed forecasts #BeAware
A sweet sight in my neighborhood. Futiva is putting in fiber optic cable. I will finally have reliable high speed Internet access at my house and provided by a southern Illinois based company.
What a week coming up for SIL. Warmup and rain to increase melting will bring increased street flooding concerns. Cold blast could bring small ice/snow event Wednesday and arctic blast Friday could bring another light snow event. #beaware
Encourage all in and around SIL to #beaware of FX updates and changing weather conditions focused Friday afternoon and evening. The combination of ice/snow could make safe travel nearly impossible for several hours and possibly well into Saturday morning.
Good day spent in #duquoin at #streetmachinenationals BUT shade and large quantities of water were my friends. Good friends to know if you are going to be out this weekend. We expect afternoon heat index values to top 100. #beaware of heat safety practices.
Been wet. Forecast is wet. Starting to seem hopeless for farmers/gardeners. I looked back and at the end of April last year (2018) I had 21” of rain. Right now I have 19.6”. May 2018 was a near normal precip month. I see May 2019 outlook leans wet. Going to be a struggle.
