Starting today and until U.S. tariffs are removed, Ontario is banning American companies from provincial contracts. Every year, the Ontario government and its agencies spend $30 billion on procurement, alongside our $200 billion plan to build Ontario. U.S.-based businesses will now lose out on tens of billions of dollars in new revenues. They only have President Trump to blame. We’re going one step further. We’ll be ripping up the province’s contract with Starlink. Ontario won’t do business with people hellbent on destroying our economy. Canada didn't start this fight with the U.S., but you better believe we're ready to win it.

Every year, LCBO sells nearly $1 billion worth of American wine, beer, spirits and seltzers. Not anymore. Starting Tuesday, we’re removing American products from LCBO shelves. As the only wholesaler of alcohol in the province, LCBO will also remove American products from its catalogue so other Ontario-based restaurants and retailers can’t order or restock U.S. products. There’s never been a better time to choose an amazing Ontario-made or Canadian-made product. As always, please drink responsibly.

Today, I wrote to the governors, senators and congressmen and women from New York, Michigan and Minnesota putting them on notice that Ontario is prepared to add a 25 per cent surcharge to the electricity we export to their states if President Trump’s tariffs remain in place.   If we have to, we won’t hesitate to increase the charge or shut the electricity off completely.

We’re partnering with @elonmusk’s @Starlink to use the latest technology to bring high-speed internet to 15,000 more homes and businesses in remote areas across Ontario.

Canada and Ontario didn’t start this trade war with President Trump, but Team Canada is ready to win it. As a first step in our response, Ontario will rip up our contract with Starlink, take U.S. alcohol off LCBO’s shelves and ban U.S. companies from government procurements.

I’ll invest tens of billions to retrain workers for new opportunities, retool companies for new customers, reshore supply chains and rebuild roads and highways to create new jobs. I’ll make tough choices to make Ontario’s economy the most competitive place to invest, create jobs and do business.   None of us want to be here, but Canada and Ontario have faced down this kind of challenge before. More than 50,000 people gathered in Richmond Hill today to stand in solidarity with the women and people of Iran. At 8:30 p.m. tonight, Niagara Falls will be lit green, white and red as a small gesture of support from Ontario to all Iranians.

U.S. markets are already tanking. American plants and assembly lines will close. Americans will pay more for everything.   For the sake of the American people, President Trump needs to pull back his tariffs.

We have some good news today. We have temporarily averted tariffs that would have severely damaged our economy, giving time for more negotiation and time for cooler heads to prevail. With the U.S. pausing tariffs, Ontario will also pause our retaliatory measures. Now is the time for moral clarity. There can be no question or confusion. Israel has an absolute right to defend itself and its citizens against violence. Today and always, we stand with Israel.

Ontario’s enhanced restrictions were always intended to stop large gatherings where spread can happen. Our regulations will be amended to allow playgrounds but gatherings outside will still be enforced. Play outside safely. Parents keep your distance & wear masks if you can’t.

While Canada continues to benefit from zero tariffs on all trade that’s USMCA compliant, representing over 90 per cent of our American exports, we need to do everything in our power to protect workers, businesses and communities from the impact of tariffs. The federal government needs to hit back with a 50 per cent tariff on U.S. steel and aluminum.   Canada has what the United States needs: oil and gas, critical minerals, steel and aluminum, electricity, potash and uranium. We’re America’s number one customer and keep millions of Americans working. The federal government needs to maximize our leverage and stand strong in the face of President Trump’s tariffs.   Our government will do whatever is needed to support workers and businesses. We’re building a more competitive, self-reliant and resilient economy by speeding up approvals, building new infrastructure to diversify our trading partners and onshoring every widget we can to fortify home-grown supply chains.   Canadian workers and businesses are desperate for certainty. Let’s work together, united, to deliver it.
