Copper Queens captain and Orlando Pride striker, Barbra Banda has been named BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year 2024.
Banda is already a global superstar after playing for Zambia at two Olympic Games and at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, however her profile has since hit new heights since signing with Orlando Pride in March. Banda dazzled on the Olympic stage this summer.
Banda has been voted the BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year in the momentous tenth year of the award. The previous winners were Mary Earps in 2023, Beth Mead in 2022, Vivianne Miedema in 2021, Lucy Bronze in 2020, Ada Hegerberg in 2019, Lucy Bronze in 2018, Ada Hegerberg in 2017, Kim Little in 2016, and Asisat Oshoala in 2015.

Zambia Women’s National team captain Barbra Banda has become the first Zambian to win the CAF Women's Player of the Year Award.
Banda beat fierce competition from Morocco’s star striker Sana Mssoudy and Nigeria goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie to clinch the 2024 award at a glittering ceremony at the Palais des Congres de Marrakech in Hivernage district.
At the same awards ceremony, Banda also made the CAF/FIFPRO Africa XI 2024.

FIFA referee Diana Chikotesha has been appointed second assistant referee in Sunday’s #TotalEnergiesAFCON2023 final pitting hosts Ivory Coast against neighbours Nigeria.
Dahane Beida of Mauritania take charge of proceedings as central referee and the first assistant referee Jerson Emiliano Dos Santos of Angola.
The fourth official will be Morocco’s Bouchra Karboubi. Sunday’s match will kickoff at 22h00 at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.
Chikotesha has been a key member of the CAF referees officiating panel at the tournament where she has been on VAR duties and on the pitch as assistant referee.

Official Announcement: Copper Queens Get New Head Coach
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has appointed Swiss national Nora Hauptle as the new head coach of the Copper Queens on a 3-year deal.
Hauptle, a former Swiss international defender, brings a wealth of experience, including coaching in Germany’s Frauen-Bundesliga and Ghana's Black Queens. She will build on the team’s astonishing milestones, including Bronze at WAFCON 2022, a FIFA World Cup debut in 2023, and Back-to-back Olympic qualifications (Tokyo 2020 & Paris 2024).
Outgoing coach Bruce Mwape has been reassigned to FAZ’s developmental programs as he undertakes the CAF Pro License course.
Let’s welcome Coach Hauptle and wish her success as we prepare for the 2024 WAFCON in Morocco!
