That's not true at all. I got out of the military in late 2017 & could still march an entire brigade across several states without having to call route step. You literally march every single morning from the formation area to the PT area. You have to march for promotion boards, & the list goes on & on. It's no different when you are in an infantry unit, cav scout unit, air defense, etc. We marched for hours before all across the base just working on the timing to make sure when it mattered, we weren't ate up.
