Most people scan content and make assumptions based on past experiences with similar patterns.
A bicycle company struggling with damaged shipments leveraged our propensity to scan by putting a TV image on its box. Damage rates fell 80%. #ux#design#industrialdesign

A designer is about to learn a critical lesson in affordance.
Just because you can doesn't mean you should, but if it looks like you can, someone out there will. #ux#design
Tremendously proud to announce that I've accepted an offer to become a #UX/#UI Manager for @WesternUnion!
Thanks to all who counseled, talked, and helped during my job search. I'm lucky to be a part of an amazing #design community, and I can't wait to give back in new ways.
If you are new to #UX or struggling with #ImposterSyndrome, I want you to know that me & all of my colleagues with years of experience Google the most basic things *daily.*
Remember: everybody is learning, refining, and growing.
#UX#design secrets they don't hear in school/bootcamp:
1. Your experience matters more than your education.
2. You'll almost never use your ideal process on any given project.
3. *Everyone* deals with Imposter Syndrome.
4. The best pros still Google a lot of REALLY basic stuff.
Designing for #accessibility doesn't mean that aesthetics need to be sacrificed. A well-designed site is one that integrates accessibility #design so seamlessly that it feels organic.
Accessibility is not a limiting factor in design. It's enabling.

The Cyber Truck’s original design vs its production model looks like what happens when your developer doesn’t translate the CSS from your design system and just guesses at the values. #UX#UI#design
ALT The Cyber Truck - both original design and production model.
The struggle is real.
Even though we're always the advocates for the users, the pressure to create simple-to-implement designs for our #dev friends is a big part of being a UX designer. It's why frontend and backend skills are critical for #UX#design pro.
I’ve yet to see a #UX#design pro implement a persona in a way that added value or insight into the design process.
More often, overly-detailed personas that unduly bias the design process are created by UXers and abandoned, never to be used or looked at again.
ALT “MOST PERSONAS THAT UXERS CREATE ARE UTTERLY USELESS. CHANGE MY MIND.”
Eight skills every #UX#design professional must have to some degree:
1. Research
2. Visual Design
3. Interaction Design
4. Information Architecture
5. Usability Testing
6. UX Writing
7. Accessibility Design
8. Ethical Design
We need to stop focusing on just #1 and #2.
If you could recommend one book *not* written by Don Norman, Alan Cooper, or Steve Krug to those new to #UX or #design, what would you recommend? Why? #uxTalk
I first learned UX design on a 7-year old laptop, living out of my car, studying at McDonald's. Most of my career my personal machines have been second-hand, refurbished, or hand-me-downs.
You don't need new tech to be a #design pro. This is the first new @Apple I've ever owned.

First day @WesternUnion today! I'm excited to be starting my journey as a #UI/#UX Manager (an accurate title as I'll be managing both UI and UX team members.) I'm nervous, excited, and looking forward to the challenge. He we go!

PO: "We don't have the time or budget for a redesign. Just get it in there."

The product:
Don't focus on becoming a #UXUI professional.
Focus on #UX OR #UI.
They are two different jobs, with two different skill sets. You do yourself a disservice by trying to become an ace at both.
There's a reason these all-arounders are called unicorns: they don't exist.
Yes, I need a job.
No, I will not a take-home design challenge to get one.
The only ways these biased, completely irrelevant aspects of "interviewing" go away is if we refuse to do them and call out those who require them.
Looking at you, @GetSpectrum. #UX#UI#design

Stop trying to make the #UX#Developer happen. It's not going to happen.
#UserExperience pros should know enough about code to understand constraints. #Dev teams should know enough #UXdesign to validate approaches.
If you need two roles filled, hire two people.
ALT The "Who Killed Hannibal" meme. The first panel has the shooter labeled as "Artificial Deadlines, Endless Iterations, No Research Budget, No Access to Users, "No Time" to Test" and Hannibal is labeled as "User Experience." The second panel has the shooter asking "Why don't users like our product?"
