Maryana Chechelyuk, a policewoman from Mariupol, was released from captivity. The Russians held it for more than two years
On March 25, 2022, Maryana and her sister escaped in the Azovstal warehouses during another shelling, while their parents did not make it and stayed on the other side of the plant - near the bread factory. There was no communication since the beginning of March, so they could not call Maryana and Alina.
When the evacuation of civilians from Azovstal began, representatives of the UN and the Red Cross promised to take Maryana and Alina to Zaporizhzhia, but instead they were taken to the village of Bezimenne for filtering.
The family managed to free the youngest daughter. Maryana was promised to be returned in two days, then in a week, and later the Russians began to deny the fact that they were holding her.
According to her mother, Maryana experienced a lot of torture in captivity - she was starved, beaten, and abused in other ways. Due to the conditions of captivity, the girl's health worsened: respiratory tract diseases and tonsillitis turned into chronic bronchitis.
"Maryana lost a lot of weight, her immunity weakened, her hair began to fall out, her periods disappeared," her mother said about the girl's condition.
