I got her pregnant at 23 while I was in Uni finals. My life has come to an end I thought😭… It was just once, I thought…, should this even get her pregnant ? I thought further….🤦🏽 Few weeks down the line, we contemplated on getting the baby out, but Imade seemed scared. While she couldn’t keep it together anymore, her mum found out and they headed to my folks’ place after she told them about our one-time coitus😣. Imade loved me so much she told me the day they were gonna come around, hence I had enough time to plan to Run away from home, after much pressures from my momma, I returned home after 1 week. when I returned, my dad cut me out and gave me the beating of my life while my mother begged, “ ….it was just once…” I kept yelling…. They made plans for a meeting where I’d be present and Imade’s family would; to settle out the differences and get a resolution. After much back and forth, I accepted the baby and my Dad insisted I was gonna work to foot all the pregnancy bills while Imade moves in with us and he feeds her. It got crazier as the months drew closer; Imade being younger, had a lot of trouble coping with the pregnancy reactions and cravings, it got crazier cos I had to take paltry jobs to keep up with her while momma supported , lowkey cos she was happy she was gonna have a grandchild. While I struggled to make ends meet over the months, I kept being in talks with My cousin, Max, who was a UIUX designer, he supported me monthly but stopped when my Dad found out and warned him not to send me a penny cos he needs me to work my A** out and regret my actions. Secretly, Max still kept helping but he insisted I get to learn UIUX Design. I had a laptop I used for my school project and hence he sent me materials encompassing UIUX design, HTML & CSS to study. With a lotta determination and my resolution to wanna give Imade and my unborn kid a good life I kept burning the midnight candle everytime I got back from my paltry work. In the midst of caring for Imade at certain midnights, I studied squarely for the space of months, when my skills got Better? Max hence took me on to work on few of his projects while he paid me few funds monthly and encouraged I keep applying to job roles while I kept at learning & doing his projects. On a lonely night, while my parents went on their usual vigils, Imade yelled from her sleep while I worked and applied for roles, “….David, the baby’s gonna fly out…” she yelled and cried, my emotional self couldn’t hold my tears as she cried , I cried too while she groaned in labour. Luckily , the clinic she had her antenatal care was few blocks away, right away, i had to order a taxi to get us there. While at the clinic and kept my hopes up , my phone beeped and it was a Mail from a firm I applied to few weeks back , they sent me an offer letter for a remote entry level role and while I boxed my joy cos of my baby’s delivery , the nurse walked up to me bearing news Imade put to bed and I’ve got a baby boy. Tears rolled outta my eyes as I ran into the child care room to see Imade and my newborn. Long story short, named my kid “Itunu; peace of mind” , got along with imade, kept up with my new role and my life took a new a new turn. I improved on my skills better. It’s two years and some months down the line, got promoted at work ,I’ve got mobile, got a place of Mine , got engaged to the loml while she finishes her studies. Grateful to max and God for Making me get into tech, this not only transformed my life , it gave it a meaning. Can’t imagine what it’d have become if I never had to learn. I was down with mistakes , regrets and anguish but I made it out . My name is David Oghenetega and I made it out irrespective🎊 You can too 🍷

Years back When I started making a little cash from Tech, I started staying indoors more. So I opted to have a personal bike guy ( my worst mistake ). He ran my errands & I was so nice to this dude, even bought him a new bike & gave him huge tips, he knew my home in & out, dude approached me later & asked if I was some yahoo boy & needed me to teach him cos I stayed indoors more but had funds to spend. I repelled anyways. Neighbors warned me & My sixth sense gave me this hunch to get him off, but laziness no gree cos this dude could climb the mountains to go get anything I wanted. Mumu me thought he was so loyal and wouldn’t harm me 😭 Fast forward two months, my home got robbed, You ain’t gonna believe, this dude I was super nice to was the one who instigated robbers to come rob me, this took me from 100 to zero. Before I found out , they had already formatted & sold out my stuffs, cost me my job & Lost a lotta jobs and it almost ruined me. 💔 Long Story short, y’all be careful. Some folks can be so cruel irrespective of how nice you are to them💔

I’ve Single handedly paid University school fees of 52 undergraduates in the last 3 years.

I remember The first day I got a $10k gig. I first cried, laughed and cried again😭😂. Tech would change your life. Trust me!!

Computer science Graduate and you can’t code at all. what were you doing for 5 years bruhhh !!!!

When I was a rookie at Uni, I stayed off-campus cos I was a lazy dude who had lots of allergies & couldn’t cope with an hostel 😭. Where I stayed off-campus, There was this lad on my street. He was an OND graduate, he barely goes out, stayed in a studio apartment, dude stays indoors all day, comes out in the evenings to buy food, & mostly talks to himself while he walks down and once he goes in, the next you’d see him is the next evening. Outta curiousity, I asked an older flat mate why he seemed hostile sorta and he replied “Na Ọmọ ise ( meaning he was into fraud )” and that he’s been like that for years. I didn’t dig that cos this dude looked too homely plus no “Ọmọ ise” should be staying in a students’ apartment, I thought 😭🤲🏽 Curious me , I approached the supposed “Ọmọ ise” when we coincidentally met at the food bay at the streets’ juncture, we got talking and I asked why he stayed indoors more. Also,Coincidentally, we were namesakes and He told me he was learning “Coding” and that it was time consuming , I was a rookie, hence I didn’t know what that meant per-se, but I was enthusiastic about tech, I asked further what he meant and he told me to accompany him home. We got into his damp, badly wired room( cos he apparently tapped the neighbor’s light😭) & I saw this lad’s desk🤯, even if what I could understand from his laptop’ screen were blue,red and colored words 😭. I perceived so much work outta seeing this lad’s desk , from books to notes, pen, stickers and a dirty looking mifi. It all reeked of intense work done day & night, this changed my perspective about him. Fast forward into few months , we just noticed the dude packed out and I mean , nobody cared since he barely was friends with anyone per se. Months down the line , Was buying my usual noodles and saw this lad alight outta one of those tinted latest Honda accords (evil -spirit) then. my head got blown, he was just 25 I thought and was still struggling I presumed. Apparently, he got a Back-end Engineering job after years of learning, and he came paying back the woman who sold at the junction cos she was giving her meals for free till he was Gonna be able to pay. Years into the job ,the firm he worked with sponsored his visa to come to the states. Voila , his consistency paid off and was the lad who inspired me to get into tech !!!!✨ All I wanna tell you is your consistency would pay and you ain’t gonna regret getting into tech, it may linger , it may take years, months , but the rewards would def. suffix Keep those late night coding, designing and learning, defy those seemingly strong light ,data and what-view obstructions, before long you’re gonna be proud of yourself . One thing about the tech-consistency is “it’d always pay off”🎊✨

I engaged one of the highest paid software Engineers at my work place, this lad told me how he failed his entrance exams several times. passed at each time but couldn’t get into Uni. Registered for a pre degree , still failed, hence his folks relapsed and focused on his siblings who got into school at a trial. His words in quotes were…… “ I didn’t focus on my adversity even though it almost brought me to being suicidal plus the subtle jabs from my Dad telling me how useless I was when my younger ones were getting into school, in all, my mum was supportive, she gave me Data funds, and little stipends while I struggled with light Wahala to learn backend engineering from home for 2 years” “What changed my life was a google Developer summit I went for , met a guy that inspired me and he took me as a mentee , I opted to help work on his projects for free while he perfected them, I interned with him without a pay perse but he gave me stipends for a while and After few months, I got a proper role without a degree, I left home to rent an apartment, got my life stable gradually, and registered at NOUN for a degree while I worked remotely.” “More Opportunities came for me, I got an international role, they eventually sponsored my trip down to Europe. I may have not had a degree when others did , but a win is a win and I’m not late.” “It’s 12 years now, I have built 2 houses of mine, I have a degree, even supported my dad to finish his house, supported my junior ones in school, brought my Mum abroad for hols and more things I thank God for. In 2021, I met this 17 year old Nigerian lad that had made $19,000. Yes , you didn’t misread, $19k 😭. He wrote JAMB twice with no major headway but His folks noticed he had flair for writing, hence his brother who’s my close pal, also a software Engineer advised he starts hoisting the comic books he writes on this Amazon thingy, Etsy and one other one . You know what marveled me about this young lad and got me curious to meet him when I was in NG ? His dedication despite the odds, Prior , his brother had told me he stays indoor mostly writing, but meeting him aced me up , his time management was one I never expected from a 17yr old, we was talking and dude was like, “……Uncle T, I need go back to my room, I have a target to finish up specific laid out plans, in my head I’m like “” Mo fo o o “ 😂. During those years, he’d write those comic books and his bro helps him put it up on the Amazon thingy and helps receive its pay and other proceedings, And sends them into his Nigerian account, before 20 , dude was already worth millions from writing. Interesting . Innit ?✨ 2 years down the line today, got news he’s moved up Canada for his bachelors and I couldn’t stop but feel happier. Long story short, I want you like this fr, don’t get down with Your adversities , find strength in them and you’d make a head way. Turn your odds into your strength, if you’d be consistent with doing what you know to do before long you’d make an headway I bet . It may take some time but you’ll win. ✌🏽💐

I grew up being poor at Mathematics, the highest I ever had was a D in Junior school. I almost repeated J2 cos of this Maths 😭. So, While trying to get into tech, I had a major struggle with picking a niche , I desired to code but I was scared cos I felt it was gonna be hard and required a lotta maths so I ported for UXUI that didn’t require me to code, deep down I knew I wanted more but I just did it. After months of learning, I did my first case study ; was a health-tech case study for folks living with STDs or HIV, my mentor then insisted we posted it on behance and I did, luckily a software engineer reached out to me Months after that he liked my case study and wanted to buy into it. In the long run, I sold it out to him and I remember getting paid some few $$ ( he cheated me 😭), looking back tho, that case study wasn’t even it. It was so ugly but the idea someone got interested spurred me to do more, hence that made me intensify on getting better and I did more UX researches on different niches and I posted them on my portfolio. Immediately I started building a lot more case studies, I got opened to another gig that was to pay me $1.5k, this time I had to work with a project manager, I was to do the UIUX and some other lads were to do the engineering related thingy, we went for some reviews, after few days, I just noticed the project manager sidelined me somehow😭. Apparently, the Front End Dev was also proficient with uiux, he liased with the project manager that they should shenk me and instead of him being paid 2.5k for his own job, he was willing to do my job (UIUX) and his job (Front End) for $3k. Dude literally made them shenk me for extra $500😭. I found out later and it spurrred me to defy my fears and add in full-stack Engineering to my skill sets, in same vein , I luckily got a scholarship from the then Lagos State Governor that aided me to pay my fees at an Edtech; Forever grateful for that opportunity. Interestingly, I topped at the edtech, here’s me who felt I wouldn’t be able to code cos I wasn’t so good with Maths“( which I eventually got good with when one Mr popoola beat st^wpid and b@stard outta my head in SS1, finally had an “A” in WAEC😭😂)”, I did it with so much of diligence, I remember staying up late into the night to code and still catch up with uni schedules. It was tough ngl but I pulled through somehow 😭. Here’s the main tea, there was this dude at the Edtech, he waits after classes cos he seemed not to get stuffs easily, so I opted to create a mini team of folks who always waited to retake each-other whatever was taken before I trek back to Uni. You ain’t gonna believe this lad who wasn’t super good was the first to get a job amongst everyone and got me a link for my first full time tech role. Don’t ever feel you ain’t good enough or tech ain’t for you, once you make your mind to do it , you can and you will, your resolve , resilience and patience would carry you through, trust me. Not getting it ? find a partner, accountability partner or a team , y’all will build together, you can never tell who’s gonna get a role first and helps the other find their feets. You’d also win if you ain’t gonna relent, if you’d keep up the pace, You will win ✨🎊
