From delay to delivery. 🏗️🔥
A year ago, I vowed that a new contractor would be appointed for the Sarah Baartman Centre of Remembrance in Hankey, Eastern Cape, and that the project would be put back on the path to completion after more than 10 years of delays.
🤝 This morning, I made good on that promise by handing over the site to the newly appointed contractor.
Once completed, the Sarah Baartman Centre of Remembrance will honor her memory with the dignity and respect she deserves, while creating jobs and opportunities for the local community.
This is how we build a better South Africa. #LetsBuildSA 💙🇿🇦
I have decided to take the public into confidence and advise South Africa that at least R300 million has been stolen from the department in the last 10 years in an elaborate scheme by cyber-hackers, and potentially officials within the department. It is unthinkable that this has gone on for so long without being noticed. In order to build trust with South Africans, we must be transparent about the problems we face us. We will ensure that financial controls are tightened and we hold those responsible accountable for their actions. I will continue to update you when more information becomes available. #LetsBuildSA
Watching the opening ceremony of the World Cup in Qatar, you realise what an original and unique offering South Africa provided in 2010. Still one of the best of all time.
Cyril Ramaphosa referred to Jacob Zuma’s time in office as “9 wasted years”. CR’s been ANC president now for nearly 5 years. Crime is up. Unemployment is up. Food is more expensive and fuel has nearly doubled in price. Are we going with “5 wasted years” then?
I have today advised my colleagues in Cabinet that the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure will not procure any new houses or offices for the Executive. Furthermore, no renovations or additions will be undertaken on any properties. This is being done to ensure we direct as much money as possible towards our goal to turn South Africa into a construction site by investing in infrastructure. We will also ensure that a review continues into the optimisation of state owned property. #LetsBuildSA
This shouldn’t just be Cape Town. It should be EVERY city and town in South Africa. But the problem is that all those towns and cities are run by the ANC so they have a wide tolerance for lawlessness.
As the Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, there will be NO expropriation of private property without compensation on my watch. The guarantee of property rights under Section 25 of the Constitution is not up for debate and is non-negotiable.
I don’t understand how this happens. If you’ve ever been late to file a tax return, SARS will literally hunt you down if you owe them more than R1 but Edwin Sodi can run up a R400 million tax bill? How does that happen unchecked?
No matter what your political views are, the role and hand of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi in the Zulu Nation has been one of stability & consistency. His wisdom & knowledge of traditions and customs have been central to what we saw today. Salute Shenge 🙏 #InkosiEsibayeni
[WATCH] Captain Siya Kolisi challenges President Cyril Ramaphosa to use the spirit of diversity displayed after the #Springboks Rugby World Cup victory for the entire country. "We need to use our diversity a bit more." #Newzroom405
Everyone is mad at Nathi Mthethwa over the R22 million flag, but this is misdirected. If Cabinet supported this waste of money, you should be angry at the Chair of Cabinet, Cyril Ramaphosa, who agreed to this expenditure. Stop trying to divorce Cyril from useless Ministers.

Cyril Ramaphosa announced a state of disaster to deal with the electricity crisis 16 days ago, which was immediately gazetted. Since then, not a single further action step has been taken, let alone appointing the electricity minister. It was all smoke and mirrors at SONA.
Let’s celebrate responsibly tonight and please don’t inflame the pain for supporters of that other team. They have entered a mourning period.

I’m incredibly honoured to be able to serve the country that I so dearly love in this capacity. I look forward to working with Deputy Minister Zikalala who I have known for many years as the Premier of KZN and Minister of this department. Together we will make a great team to turn South Africa into a massive construction zone which will drive much needed job creation. Let’s build SA!🇿🇦
I am going to be setting up a direct point of contact in my office where members of the public will be able to let me know about problem government buildings/land so that we can try and address them. The reality is we actually don’t have a credible asset register to know where these problems are, so I am going to ask for South Africa’s help to identify the most urgent interventions. Please give me some time to get this going🙏 #LetsBuildSA 🏗️👷🇿🇦
Good morning South Africa. Today I am off to Pretoria to meet with officials and stakeholders in our department to continue the conversation on how we can make our country a massive construction site that will grow the economy and create jobs. Change is never easy, but we will get there. Thank you for your support. #LetsBuildSA 🏗️👷🇿🇦
Had an inspiring call with a young man from Mamelodi who runs an NPO that’s raised funds to build a library and youth centre in his community but hasn’t been able to get an answer on government owned land that could be used for the project. I’ve committed to meet the community and see if we can expedite this matter. If government owns land that is not being used and we can partner with communities and organisations to make it of use to them, then that is what we will start doing. #LetsBuildSA🏗️👷🇿🇦
I’m absolutely clear that there is no room or space for the construction mafia in South Africa. We cannot and will not allow infrastructure projects for the benefit of communities to be halted due to violence and extortion. No negotiations will take place. ewn.co.za/2024/07/02/public-…
A friendly reminder that every single day, Cyril Ramaphosa and his Ministers never have to experience loadshedding because they have generators at their homes paid for by you and me. It’s GOOD to be in government!
It is unthinkable that in 2024, we still have pit toilets at our schools.
Therefore, by working with the Minister of Basic Education, we will declare war on pit toilets to eradicate them from schools once and for all.
Lindiwe Sisulu who is brave in tweets and opinion pieces, doesn’t have the guts to come to parliament and vote for the Section 89 report. Instead she ran away. How let down her team must feel!
BREAKING NEWS:
The KZN GPU (IFP-ANC-DA-NFP) have elected IFP MPL, Thami Ntuli as the new Premier of KwaZulu-Natal by 41-39 votes. This is a monumental day in the history and politics of our province.
I’m absolutely committed to ramping up infrastructure investment so that we turn South Africa into a big construction site that will drive economic growth to deliver jobs. #LetsBuildSA🏗️👷🇿🇦 news24.com/news24/investigat…
BREAKING NEWS:
WARD 73 ETHEKWINI FINAL RESULTS
DA – 81.74% - 3 486 VOTES
ANC – 17.66% - 753 VOTES
EFF – 0.61% - 26 VOTES
This is the ward Cyril Ramaphosa came to campaign in and the ANC said they would win!
.@eThekwiniM has spent R20 billion on the “Durban-Go” bus system since 2013 & there isn’t 1 bus running in the city. One of the greatest corruption scandals but the ANCYL won’t say anything about it. Instead they’re trying to “shutdown” the only town that works in KZN today. 🤡
The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure is ready to partner with you Minister @Siviwe_G to eradicate pit toilets in our schools. #LetsBuildSA
Gwarube said she wanted to prioritise improving numeracy and literacy among pupils and improve school infrastructure, especially pit latrines. timeslive.co.za/news/2024-07…
Turning South Africa into a construction site! 🚧🇿🇦
Work on the redevelopment of 85 Anderson Street - the future home of the new Johannesburg Deeds Office - is now over 60% complete.
This R707 million project is employing over 210 local workers, supporting 22 SMMEs, and training more than 100 young people through the EPWP.
Once completed, it will modernise deeds administration and breathe new life into the Johannesburg CBD.
#LetsBuildSA 💙🇿🇦
I’ve just had a great call with Deputy Minister Zikalala to congratulate him on his appointment. We have known each other for a long time and I’m really excited that we can come together to #BuildSouthAfrica🇿🇦
As Minister for Public Works and Infrastructure, I look forward to taking DA policies and ideas to the Cabinet table that will grow our economy, create jobs and #BuildSouthAfrica 🏗️. It’s time to turn our country into a massive construction site that builds infrastructure for the future! 👷 🚧
I’m pretty sure Andre de Ruyter resigned because he lost the support of Cyril Ramaphosa, who became reliant on Gwede Mantashe to survive politically in the ANC. We know how quickly Gwede wanted ADR gone. When forced to choose between the ANC & SA, Ramaphosa again shows his hand.
Along with many South African’s this morning, I have watched with disbelief the video as related to the suspended IDT CEO.
I will be addressing this matter as soon as possible after consulting with the IDT board which I plan to do today.
The ban on alcohol is a red herring for the failure to create new hospital beds during the lockdown. Weak leadership is personified by Cyril Ramaphosa.
BREAKING NEWS: The DA has exposed the ANC and EFF-run eThekwini municipality after they spent R83 million to build ONE house. These parties eat money while claiming to be delivering services!
The ANC in eThekwini have hijacked the allocation of water tankers and running them through their local branches, meaning only members are being allocated water. This is completely disgusting, but not unexpected. Communities are starting to protest and this will turn violent.
Going to level 4 is a huge admission by Cyril Ramaphosa that the last 467 days have been totally wasted in preparing the healthcare system. It’s only been used by ANC cadres to steal COVID money, and none of them have been arrested. Of course he couldn’t actually say this.
Just been told a story how on Friday, a Christian church came to guard a mosque while they prayed & then in return, members of the mosque guarded the church while they prayed on Sunday. This gives me hope that while the ANC wants to destroy South Africa, others want to build SA.
The sponsored attacks against a brilliant journalist like @ZiyandaNgcobo by some political parties is disgraceful and meant to silence her. I’ve known Ziyanda for many years, and while tough and critical, she is fair and truthful. Stand strong.
I’m prepared to offer R5000 reward to anyone that has info regarding this crime on the N2 between Tongaat & Ballito on Wednesday night which killed 2 children & will lead to the conviction of these murderers. I challenge corporates to assist in adding to this! RT for awareness!
When the ANC said yesterday that NHI was an “unstoppable train”, this is exactly what healthcare will look like when they’re done with it, because we know their record with trains.
The Department of Public Works is the biggest landlord in South Africa.
But the truth is that there is no accurate picture of what we own.
That is why we have committed in the medium term to deliver a comprehensive asset register - and we will make it public. #LetsBuildSA
The biggest story today has to be the interview with new Eskom board member, Mteto Nyati who says the only way to save the power utility is to do away with BEE, employment equity and localisation, all major ANC & government policies. And he’s not wrong. Major conflict coming.
President Ramaphosa and government ministers have no idea what the price of petrol does to ordinary citizens because they don’t pay for petrol in their state cars.

The old SAPS Barracks in Durban have been left abandoned for many years.
The department needs to within 30 days establish whether the SAPS has a use for the building, whereafter a public requests for proposals should be made. #LetsBuildSA
We were promised extra hospital capacity would be built in the first lockdown and that’s why 2 million people had to ‘sacrifice’ their jobs and more than 40% of businesses would close. Where is it?
Let’s be clear, the President did not decide to open up restaurants and personal care because he thought it was the right thing to do. He did so because he knew they were going to get hammered in court.
Good luck to BATSA as they begin their court case against NDZ’s ludicrous smoking ban TODAY. I’m no smoker but back peoples right to be able to smoke and to end the enrichment of cigarette smugglers and the criminalization of citizens!
Striking picture of the crisis playing out at Durban harbour to see all this ships (there were a lot more that didn’t fit in the frame) all waiting at sea. The cost to the economy must be extraordinary and all brought in by ANC government failure and with no plan to resolve it
Good afternoon SA. A busy week ahead with our first extended Cabinet meeting tomorrow, various stakeholder engagements in the week, a visit to Infrastructure South Africa and the Cabinet Lekgotla this weekend. My message is simple, I want to turn our country into a massive construction site that drives growth which creates jobs. We want to see building cranes in every town and city. #LetsBuildSA🏗️👷🇿🇦
A reminder that the President of the Republic of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa has absolutely NOTHING to say about Eskom since he’s been back in the country 4 days ago, and even longer since his trip to Germany 1 week ago. We have a mute for a president.
People who want hard lockdowns normally have very little to lose financially. Their salary’s will be paid & pension fund contributions made. Waiters, cleaners, domestic workers, petrol attendants, the 2 million who have already lost their jobs are all just collateral damage.
In light of Russian aggression and invasion into a sovereign country like Ukraine, surely South Africa should re-evaluate its relationship with BRICS if we are to be defenders of international law and human rights.
For a man who had “no clue” about what went on in his own organisation and has always been “shocked” at documented allegations, you have to ask yourself, how is it that Cyril Ramaphosa is considered such a skilled businessman? He claims to be the last to know about everything.
40 ships waiting to get into Durban harbour. I can’t ever remember seeing so many at sea because of the inefficiencies in the port. The ANC have destroyed everything they have touched. Is there a single SOE that works under the wrecking ball of Pravin Gordhan and the ANC?
Msunduzi Municipality (ANC, PA & Independents coalition) in KZN has severe load-reduction from Eskom because they owe R550 million. The council collected R700 million in debt between September & now. They chose to pay officials bonuses instead of Eskom. The money is gone!
The taxi industry is a law unto itself. They don’t have to obey traffic rules and don’t pay tax like everyone else has to. Whenever they are subjected to a standard of compliance they become thugs. South Africa must stare them down.
BREAKING NEWS: interview with Chris Pappas cancelled after an SABC boss called Ukhozi station management instructing them to not speak to Chris. There is no doubt political pressure was applied after they have been airing ANC government adverts the entire day!
There is not a single politician Ramaphosa has fired. Stella broke lockdown rules, Gwede apparently took money, Mahlobo has been dishing out money. He could fire them today but simply won’t. Remind me why you still believe he’s the good guy and fall into a heap when he cries?
This afternoon, I released the findings of the forensic report into the R800m PSA Oxygen Plant tender. Key findings include:
• Companies awarded contracts without valid SAHPRA licences
• A R216m budget ballooned to R592m without justification
• Bulkeng awarded R428m—despite only qualifying for R200m
• Minutes missing and no recordings of adjudicating committees, processes bypassed, red flags ignored
• Disciplinary action recommended against senior officials
We are taking swift, decisive action to ensure accountability and clean up public procurement - for good. #LetsBuildSA 💙🇿🇦
