ALT The Dayton Police Department and the Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority (RTA) have partnered to launch the Transit Officer Safety Initiative, a collaborative effort designed to enhance public safety throughout downtown Dayton and the RTA transit system. Under the agreement, the Dayton Police Department will assign three full-time police officers to provide a dedicated law enforcement presence within the RTA transit system, with a primary focus on Wright Stop Plaza and surrounding transit corridors. Officers will provide proactive patrols, respond to incidents, engage with transit riders, and coordinate closely with RTA safety & security personnel. “I am extremely grateful for RTA’s partnership and Chief Henderson’s leadership,” said Dayton City Manager Shelley Dickstein. “This investment continues efforts to address safety concerns in the core of our downtown creating a more positive experience for those seeking to live, work, play and create downtown.”

RTA also purchased a vacant parking garage, which has helped advance a larger redevelopment project, now under construction.” The Transit Officer Safety Initiative is designed to supplement existing police services while strengthening collaboration between the Dayton Police Department and RTA. Through proactive policing, community engagement, and coordinated response efforts, the initiative will support a safe and secure environment for transit riders, employees, and visitors.
