This evening, Maia Sandu, the pro-EU president of Moldova, delivered an unprecedented address to the nation following today鈥檚 large-scale arrests of pro-Russian agents across the country: "In all solemnity, I have to inform you that the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and future of our country are in grave and immediate danger. The Kremlin has spent hundreds of millions in an attempt to destabilize and spread violence and fear across the Moldova. I am addressing all loyal citizens: do not permit the surrender of our country. [...] Russia is not acting alone, they have many accomplices here in Moldova, traitors to their homeland that will sell it for a profit, as they have done before. These men don't have a country, they don't believe in Europe or in Russia, they believe in nothing but money. [...]" The Kremlin believes that we are all for sale, that we are too small and few to resist, that we're not even a country. But Moldova is a country and is our home and we will defend it. [...]"

鈥硷笍In what might be catastrophic news for Romania, for Ukraine and Europe in general, in the first round of the Romanian Presidential Election, an almost completely unknown individual somehow managed to win some 16-18% of the votes (for now, still counting and still growing every minute) and might actually end up qualifying for round 2. This man does not belong to any party (thus no party machinery to back him), no vast fortune to fund his campaign that we know of and has a face and name not even 1 in 50 Romanians would have recognized 1 month ago while his score tonight was not predicted by any pollster, even remotely. As I'm writing this, probably every third Romanian just discovered, upon googling the guy, that he is openly pro-Russian, openly and unapologetically pro-Iron Guard (Romanian WW2 fascist movement), violently anti-NATO, anti-EU and an all round terrifying monster of a man (all views which he kept hidden during his "campaign"). I am absolutely convinced, as is everyone else here tonight, that this man is a Russian asset and his meteoric rise from 0% to God knows how much, could not be explained in any other way but by a massive and unprecedented Russian interference.

This morning's events are yet another absolute shock for the Russians still holding the childish belief that they will get to bomb everyone and nobody is going to bomb them. Massive drones attacks have hit 6 Russian regions (Moscow, Kursk, Tula, Voronezh, Belgorod and Nizhny Novgorod). The Lukoil refinery in Nizhny Novgorod, the biggest refinery of the Lukoil Group - responsible for about 5% of the total Russian refining capacity, has been critically hit. Ukraine has been increasingly degrading the Russian energy sector, the backbone of their economy, for the past several months. Cracks are forming...

In what I believe might be one of the most satisfying pieces of news you'll be reading today, the Moldovan authorities (I'm guessing with some outside help) managed to get substantial information on the Promsviazbank - one of the banks used by the Russians to mass purchase votes in order to influence the Moldovan elections. To get a sense of the scale of what Russians attempted to do here, the amount of votes purchased (at least through this bank) amounts to 138k, meaning roughly 9% of the total votes cast in this election. The total suspected number goes as high as 300k votes, when accounting for all the other banks and means used by the Russians. Because getting a wire transfer right now from a sanction Russian might just be the worse way to go about doing this, the Moldovan authorities were apparently able to identify all the 138k people that have sold their votes. The first 400 of the bunch have already been fined with about $1500 each, roughly 10 times the sum of money they sold their vote for. The "recruiters" and "heads" of this operation have also been identified and are looking at ample "me time" to reconsider their choices in all the comfort a Moldovan prison can pamper you in.

In less than 48 hours, Moldova will stand before one of the most significant sets of elections in its history, a day which in all likelihood, will finally and definitely see the country truly break away from Russia: a referendum to inscribe EU accession into its very constitution, alongside a very crucial presidential election. According to the polls, both the EU referendum as well as the pro-EU candidate Maia Sandu (current president), stand to win overwhelming victories, and just to add to the legitimacy, those victories will probably be won with a massive voter turnout (estimated to go as high as 75%), all while the pro-Russian candidates stand to register crushing defeats. Knowing it essentially stands to "lose" Moldova for good, Russia has been burning through all the means at its disposable to prevent and if needed overturn the result of this election: from economic pressure and propaganda, to very direct military threats aimed at frightening the population into submission and outright flying-in Wagner mercenaries and training pro-Russian individuals willing to stage a coup. Despite everything, this small nation of not even 3 million souls and limited economic means, with one separatist and one autonomous region both controlled by Moscow, a country that was totally dependent on Russian gas pre-2022 and one that has Russian troops on its very soil, survived it all and stands to serve Russia a defeat which will echo far beyond Moldova.

What most would consider an insignificant piece of news, one of the so many that get lost, will forever stay with me. OTD 2 years ago, shortly after the Russian invasion started, the residents from Pietroasa (Romania), a tiny and impoverished mountain village of 300 souls - most of them elderly, decided to help Ukraine with whatever little they had. No NGO or humanitarian organization told them to. They didn't have to. Nobody had much money to spare, but as pretty much everyone keeps a little garden to supplement their necessities, they did have potatoes. So that's what they stared with and gathered 1.5 tons of potatoes! Then each household donated whatever other non-perishable items they had around, which amounted to about 2 tons of flour, rice, cooking oil and various cans. And sweets, sweets for the Ukrainian children... The problem remained actually sending it to Ukraine, so they went and looked around and very soon, a van owning volunteer from a nearby town decided to do his bit. For every vile, wicked, hateful voice out there bent on bringing misery and suffering, there's hundreds of people like this. For the sake everything good and kind, Russia will not win this war.

Thank you Vladimir, we were all holding our breath here, eager to hear the latest edition of "What the West must do for Russia!". But no Vladimir, there won't be a clean slate, there won't be a start anew this time, not with us, not again. Once that collapse arrives, and someday it will, there won't be any "reconstruction funds" coming, there won't be any armies of "Western" volunteers crowdfunding aid for Russians like we do for Ukraine, there'll be no donations and no open arms extended. For a very long time to come, even those sympathetic presidents and chancellors which you will occasionally find, won't be able to give you that, because in the process of doing it, they'll be committing political suicide. The unspeakable atrocities committed by hundreds of thousand of Russians, cheered on by tens of millions of other Russians, is imprinted in the minds of this generation, which will imprint it into the minds of the next, which in turn will do the same to the one that will follow. We don't want to integrate Russia, we don't care much anymore for whatever new version of hell Russia will inevitably descent next into, just like it did every single other time. What we do want is to see Russia isolated and evicted out of Ukraine, and Georgia, and Moldova and every other place the Russian cancer managed to reach. What we do want, is to see your Russian empire so militarily and economically devastated by this war it started, that you will tremble in fear at the idea of waging another war again.

When the hundreds of thousands of Russian soldiers return home, and they inevitably will at some point, completely void of whatever sensitivity was there to begin with and very much used to killing people for $2000 a month, you won't get them again to work 10h shifts in a factory for $300 a month and refrain from doing what you've taught them to do. When this war ends, and it will someday, much like it happened to almost every other country that fine-tuned their entire society and economy to fight a war and then suddenly found themselves without a war to fight, there will be a blow-back. You'll feel it in your economy, you'll feel it on your streets and you'll feel it in your homes. When Putin and his circle of power dies, and they will, they all will, no matter how excellent of a medical care they afford, you'll understand why handing all power to a handful of men, unbound by any rules or structures, is something that other half of humanity, the one you so bitterly hate and mock, fought so hard to rid themselves of.
