Congratulations to Governor-elect @TinaKotek! It's been an honor to serve alongside you over the past decade, and I can't wait to continue moving the state forward for all Oregonians together. Let's get to work!
It is a tremendous honor to be voted as Speaker of the Oregon House. I am living proof that the worst moments of our lives don’t have to be our destiny.
I believe you are not defined by your failures, but instead how you move forward. #orpol#orlegpiped.video/watch?v=whYICEfN…
📮 It’s no secret that this is my wheelhouse issue. I have been supportive of Ranked Choice Voting since I was 19 years old. Today, House Bill 2004 passed the senate and heads to the governor’s desk for signature. 1/2
I’ve been working and advocating for #RankedChoiceVoting for more than a decade. It’s exciting and very meaningful to finally rank my vote this year in Benton County!
I had a mix of emotions moving offices in the Capitol this past week. Then I found this amazing surprise that made me smile and warmed my heart. Thank you @tinakotek for your trust, partnership, and everything you’ve done for Oregon.
One of the best things about Oregon: vote-by-mail. It gives me the chance to get advice and realtime feedback from an expert.
Turn in your ballot by 8 pm Tuesday! #vote
I have a lot of concerns about this potential merger and its impact on low-income Oregonians. We can’t build an economy that works for everyone if wealthy executives are creating more food deserts while taking in billions of dollars. #orpoloregonlive.com/business/2022…
Got a s/o from my friend @AndrewYang for our work in Oregon to get Ranked Choice Voting on the ballot in his most recent podcast episode. Good to be able to chat with him last week about how diversifying the people who vote and run for office can strengthen our democracy. #orpol
We need to reduce traffic stops for minor infractions like broken tail lights. These stops turn deadly far too often and keep law enforcement from focusing on real crime prevention. #orpol#orlegopb.org/article/2022/02/04/o…
The right to access an abortion doesn’t mean abortion is accessible. I was proud to vote yes as the House passed HB 2002 today. It protects, strengthens, & expands access to reproductive and gender-affirming health care.
It was surreal to end this session banging the final gavel with Adam. Thank you to the legislators and staff who made this the most significant short session in Oregon history, wrapping up with investments in education, housing, climate, working families and more. #orpol#orleg
Serving in the Legislature for the last decade has been an incredibly rewarding opportunity. After a lot of thought with friends & family, we're excited to announce my candidacy to be Oregon's next Attorney General.
See our priorities at DanRayfield.com#orpol
Willfully violating your Oath of Office and fleeing the Capitol in a manner strategically designed to kill numerous bills important to Oregonians across this state is a dereliction of duty and a threat to our democracy. These shameful acts must stop. I stand by @TinaKotek#orpol
Over 200,000 low-income Oregonians will soon receive a $600 stimulus. Credit to @DreaValderrama for advancing this important work.
Too many families are struggling to cover expenses and we have more work ahead to address the growing wealth divide. #orpoloregonlive.com/politics/2022…
I’m humbled by the trust in me to serve as Speaker.
We have incredible opportunities before us over the next six months. We’ll be working to make sure that government delivers for the people and that we give Oregonians what they need to thrive.
Oregon is joining the multi-state lawsuit against the Trump administration after Elon Musk and his DOGE team gained access to the personal and private information of millions of Americans. No one is above the law— not billionaires and not the President.
Oregon is a national leader in making democracy accessible through programs such as Motor Voter and Vote by Mail. Today, the House passed House Bill 2107, which will help Oregonians have the option to register to vote when signing up for the Oregon Health Plan. #orpol#orleg
In no uncertain terms, Ranked Choice Voting will strengthen our democracy. Giving voters more choice encourages voter engagement, ensures people in power are elected by a true 50% majority, and leads to better, more positive elections and election outcomes. #orpol#orleg 2/2
Big win for campaign finance reform today! Oregon Supreme Court has reversed itself now ruling that campaign contribution limits are constitutional. Can’t wait to start discussing and then passing a comprehensive campaign finance system for Oregon. #orpol
In light of this week’s election, our work to defend Oregon’s values and the rule of law against national attacks will be front and center like never before. Proud to have earned the trust of @EllenRosenblum to continue to stand firm against unconstitutional and unlawful threats.
During former President Trump’s first term, we Democratic AGs stood firm against federal overreach—and we prevailed! I know Oregon’s AG-elect @DanRayfield and AGs across the US, with the @DemocraticAGs will safeguard our rights & values. Together, we’re ready for any challenge.
With everyone making decisions about their political future, I’m calling on @CedricHaydenOR to publicly state his intentions - Legislature again, or game keeper at Hogwarts? #orpol
Oregon, we are so excited to get to work together. I will prioritize keeping our communities safe, protecting seniors, consumers, and working families, and defend Oregonians from national attacks on our values. Thank you for your support. danrayfield.com/wp-content/u…
I've been heartbroken by the anti-trans laws pushed in many other states over the last year. On this #TransDayofVisibility, I reaffirm my commitment to help make this state a welcoming, inclusive place that is free of discrimination for all trans Oregonians.
Congratulations to Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson on her confirmation to the Supreme Court. Her incredible legal experience will make her a phenomenal justice. This is a historic day!
We can’t be complacent. As other states roll back protections and attempt to criminalize health care, we will be working with providers and clinics to make sure Oregon is prepared to support access to care in this changing landscape. #orpol#orlegpamplinmedia.com/pt/9-news/5…
My feelings about Rep. Hernandez’s actions have not changed since May of 2020. In fact, my feelings have only gotten stronger. Resign or face expulsion.
I am truly horrified by last night's shooting at a shopping center in Bend. This tragedy reminds us how far we still must go as state and country to keep our communities safe from gun violence. Gun violence is a public health crisis that can impact every community in the state.
I’ll miss Peter Courtney’s humor, his desire to always make things better for marginalized Oregonians, and even his grumpiness. He'd hate this post if he knew it was on social media, but that's why I like it.
.@RepTawnaSanchez has shown a tremendous commitment to stand up for social justice and center equity in our state budgets. She has built trust among her fellow legislators and has become a moral compass for our caucus. #orpol#orlegpamplinmedia.com/pt/9-news/5…
Too many barriers exist nationally for tribal students accessing our higher education system. It's great to see schools like @OregonState and @Portland_State take steps to reduce those barriers. opb.org/article/2022/08/04/o…
It was great to host BOLI Commissioner Christina Stephenson here at the Capitol. I look forward to working with her to improve lives for workers across the state!
With the passage of SJR 18 today, voters will get to decide whether or not they want campaign finance limits in Oregon. Proud to have sponsored this bill and will absolutely be voting yes in 2020! #orpol
I always appreciate the chance to meet with the University Legislative Scholars at Oregon State. We had a great time last night discussing the state budgeting process and the students came prepared with a ton of thoughtful questions.
Great seeing you today! Looking forward to bragging about the great work we’re doing in Oregon to strengthen democracy at the @fairvote awards event tonight.
Well, we made it 🛩️
I am so proud of all of the groundwork we laid this session to address the housing crisis, increase access to behavioral health, make our communities safer, and protect access to reproductive health and gender affirming care. #orpol#orleg
Our bill to use the postmarked date for mailed-in ballots just passed the Senate!!! It ensure’s all ballots mailed before an election will be counted.
A huge step for voter access in a time where many seem to be focused on removing it. #orpol
Proudest moment as a parent came tonight when Adam, at 8 years old, read out loud, and at speed, the scrolling text at the beginning of the Return of the Jedi. A spiritual milestone for our family.
Spring break has started which means Adam got dragged along on a field trip to the Capitol today. It’s always more fun when he’s around. Even if he makes my sweet tooth flare up and has cooler toys than our office does. #orpol#orleg
It was an amazing weekend with the entire @ORHouseDems caucus in Independence. A special thank you to @PaulEvansOregon for hosting us in his district. We’re ready to get to work for all Oregonians in 2023! #orpol#orleg
Housing & homelessness are two of the most urgent issues Oregonians care about. That’s why we said we’d deliver on housing in the first 60 days of session & made true on that promise. Today the house passed the Affordable Housing and Emergency Homelessness Response Package.
As your next Attorney General, I’ll protect consumers from fraud, defend women from national attacks on abortion rights, and I’ll always work to keep Oregonians safe. #orpolpiped.video/cuyLEwIVMY8?feature…
Today's Supreme Court ruling against reasonable gun safety laws in NY is shocking and will make the country less safe from gun violence. But it will not deter us from taking action here in Oregon. We will act to protect our children and keep our communities safe. #orpol#orleg
Just took the oath of office again. Every two years I’m reminded how inspiring this moment is. I’m also in awe thinking about how all our institutions of government (from school board to the legislature) are served by regular Oregonians from all walks of life. Democracy at work.
Tomorrow, our ban on undetectable, unserialized Ghost Guns goes into effect. Violations will result in a fine of $1,000 for first-time offenders or even higher fines and potentially incarceration for repeat offenders.
Had a great meeting with former Governor Kitzhaber talking about the ways the Attorney General can work to advance our shared priority of high-quality, accessible, and affordable health care. #orpol
It’s always an honor to sit-down with @LauralPorter. We discussed our top priorities for the #orleg session: housing, homelessness, behavioral health and more. I’m ready to make sure our government delivers for Oregonians.
New member of the family! After Adam beat us into submission for several days, the puppy’s name shall be Ruby - “because she’s precious like the gemstone.”
“And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for, the 8th wonder of the world, the amazing, the incredible, backside of water. Now that’s something you don’t see everyday… but I do…” said the former Jungle Cruise Skipper to his son.
Small businesses and working families are the backbone of our economy. I appreciate the work @JasonForBend is doing this session to make it easier for individuals and small businesses to get repaid for damages caused by break-ins. #orleg#orpolkoin.com/news/oregon/oregon-…
.@KateForOregon continues to be a climate champion. Together this session, we will invest in a climate budget for a cleaner, healthier tomorrow while putting the state on a path to create meaningful jobs protected against outsourcing. #orpol#orleg
I have partnered with Speaker @DanRayfield, environmental justice advocates and our building trades to propose The Resilient, Efficient Buildings Task Force, and an ambitious Climate Budget. Together, these will move the dial on building emissions and our climate goals.
I have failed to tweet for 10 days. This will act as my semi-regular obligatory political tweet to appear relevant in the realm of social media. Please accept my deepest apology. I am ashamed. #orpol
Had a great time catching up with the amazing @LauralPorter. Tune in to @KGWNews Saturday morning at 4:30am, Sunday at 1:30pm, Sunday night at about 9pm, or Monday at 7pm on Straight Talk to watch our full conversation.
1/2 I'm proud to be endorsed by @PPAdvocatesOR & the work we led in Oregon to pass the strongest protections in the nation. But with the constant attacks at the national level, we need an Attorney General who will defend our reproductive rights, including abortion.
I'm devastated to read about yesterday's tragedy in Colorado Springs, another mass shooting targeted against the LGBTQ community. Our country needs solutions, not platitudes. We will take action in the 2023 session to prevent gun violence.
My favorite moment with Adam at the Capitol yesterday day was when he pointed at @TinaKotek and told @djgrayber “look it’s Magic Speaker” instead of Madam Speaker. Magic Speaker indeed Adam!
10:07 p.m. and we’re still working - each time a legislator gives a thumbs-up vote from the gallery I have this uncontrollable urge to give them a reciprocal thumbs-up to let them know I think they’re cool too.
I’m incredibly excited to be serving with our new Majority Leader, @juliefahey. She’s done a lot of incredible work since joining the caucus in 2017, particularly over the last couple years on housing issues. #orpol#orlegklcc.org/politics-government…
All Oregonians who cast their ballot by 8PM on Election Day deserve to have that ballot counted. Our 2021 bill, HB 3291, guarantees that right, strengthening Oregon's already amazing vote-by-mail system!
Oregon voters! #DidYouKnow Starting January 1st, if your ballot is in the mail and postmarked by the USPS by 8PM on Election Day, it will be counted.
ALT There is an important change coming to how Oregonians cast ballots in 2022!
ALT As you probably know, Oregon ballots are due to a county elections office or official drop box by 8PM on Election Day. Previously, depending on where you live, the last day to mail your ballot could be up to a week before the election to ensure it arrived on time and was counted.
Thanks to legislation passed in 2021, this timeline is changing. HB 3291, the “postmarks” bill, gives Oregon voters additional time to cast their ballots.
ALT What does this mean for you? As of January 1, 2022, as long as your ballot is in the mail and postmarked by the USPS by 8PM on Election Day, it will be counted.
ALT Bottom line – get your ballot to a county elections office, official drop site, or USPS postmarked by 8PM on Election Day and your vote will be counted! (And don’t forget to sign the back of the envelope!)
The right to access an abortion does not mean abortion care is accessible.
This report was directly informed by patient and provider experiences, and we'll keep working to ensure all Oregonians can make their own decisions on their own health care. #orpoloregoncapitalchronicle.com/2…
VOTE TODAY!
We are excited to announce our endorsement of @DanRayfield, whose primary is today.
If you vote in #Oregon, this is your chance to shore up democracy via the attorney general's office. Dan is a strong leader running for all the right reasons who brings a powerful wealth of experience.
Go vote!
Too many Oregonians are struggling with hunger, homelessness, & financial hardship. We must act swiftly to support them. That’s why in our budget rebalance process we are investing in Oregon Food Bank and Project Turnkey. This session is about investing in Oregonians!
Running a campaign can really be a grind, but one of the perks is getting to spend time with Oregon's historic leaders like Governor Barbara Roberts. We're honored to have her support. #orpol
Housing and homelessness are two of the most urgent issues Oregonians care about. That’s why we committed to delivering on housing early in the session and we made true on that promise. Today, we came together to commemorate the signing of our housing package. #orpol#orleg
The state funding #orleg passed in 2021 is having a huge, positive impact this wildfire season. Oregon has been able to hire more firefighters and stop fires from growing early on, helping save lives and property. #orpolkobi5.com/news/oregon-depart…
We all deserve to feel safe in our communities. We need to hold people accountable for when they commit crimes and do everything in our power to prevent them, including addressing the root causes of crime and ensuring that people who served their time get a fair chance.
I’m proud that Oregon leads the nation in protecting reproductive health. But these protections don't exist if not everyone has access. HB2002 takes important steps towards closing this gap. I was proud to testify in support of HB2002 once again. #orpolfb.watch/joKzW03ls3/?mibexti…
1 in 3 kids in the state are on the Oregon Health Plan. Last week’s federal funding news is so important for low-income families who will no longer have to deal with the hassle of re-enrolling each year to keep their children insured. #orpolopb.org/article/2022/09/28/o…
Our Attorney General stands as Oregon’s last line of defense against national attacks against our abortion rights. With the looming threat of a nationwide abortion ban, protecting access to abortion is on the ballot right here in Oregon. oregonlive.com/pacific-north…
Protecting seniors and consumers from price gouging has been a priority for me since day one. As Attorney General, Oregonians can count on me to stand up to big corporations and fight against fraud and abuse. forbes.com/sites/errolschwei…
🧵1/2 As Oregon's next Attorney General, I'll fight for ALL Oregonians. I’ve delivered for Oregon families by:
✅ Investing in our schools
✅ Expanding access to healthcare
✅ Partnering with law enforcement to get hard drugs off our streets
Just watched @OregonGovBrown sign our campaign finance reform bills and paid postage for ballots. Great day for campaign finance reform and expanding access to the ballot!
We filed a multi-state lawsuit today to halt a presidential order that threatens to end federal funding to medical institutions providing gender-affirming care. We will not stand by as the President tries to unilaterally impose his harmful political agenda on Oregonians.
Committee hearing rooms at the Oregon Capitol are back up and running! Thanks to the amazing CAMS construction team and Capitol staff for their work to get these rooms ready for December Legislative Days. #orpol#orleg
Today, the @wweek reported that the Oregon DMV may have mistakenly registered more than 300 non citizens to vote. Wanted to share my thoughts with you. Read the article for more details: wweek.com/news/state/2024/09…
We’ve had a lot of long days this session. But sometimes passing bills is fun. Our staff and members have been working around the clock to get our work done.
We’re fully back in person for the 2023 legislative session! But for Oregonians who want to testify on bills and can’t make it to Salem, there are still virtual options to make sure you can stay engaged. More details are available here. #orpol#orlegstatesmanjournal.com/story/n…
🚂 Today we released our Rural Infrastructure and Economic Development Budget Framework. This package builds on work started in 2022 to expand rural infrastructure in Oregon, and is buffeted by our Drought and Water Security Budget framework. #orpol#orleg 1/3
🧵1/3 I am excited about the role of Attorney General because I believe that with the right leadership, the Attorney General can be an indispensable partner to help fix the challenges Oregon currently faces.
In his first term, Democratic Attorneys General took the Trump Administration to court over 100 times and won 80% of the cases. We look forward to continuing to work collaboratively to hold the incoming Trump administration accountable and uphold the rule of law in Oregon.
1 more day to get your ballots in the mail or in a drop box by 8pm! Check out the link below to find the drop box nearest you. #orpolsos.oregon.gov/voting/Pages/…
