In preparation for my role as Mayor, I reached out to @edballs as he has experience of being a high-profile politician with a stammer. I asked him for advice as I stepped into this important role as Mayor, as I also have a stammer.
My stammer isn’t something that has held me back, but it is something that I have to manage, and even more so now in my public role. My message to anyone with a stammer is, don’t let it hold you back, embrace it. It is part of who you are.
In my experience having a stammer has made me a far more attentive and effective listener, which is a fundamental quality required by anyone in leadership and politics.

It was great to be out with Rachel Reeves chatting to small businesses in Harrogate this weekend.
As a small business owner myself, I know how difficult it is to have a small business on the high street.

A really big day for York and North Yorkshire as I got to announce the first four funds we have created to help tackle some of the major issues in our region.
£27.5 million will be allocated to -
🏪Vibrant and Sustainable High Streets Fund £10 million
🌿Carbon Negative Challenge Fund £10 million
📈Business Innovation Fund £5 million
👩💻Skills Innovation Fund £2.5 million
I also announced additional funding to deliver more housing via our Brownfield Housing Fund, bringing the number of new homes being built to 977, over half of these are affordable.
This is just the beginning. To be at the stage after just two months is a testament to my team and both councils for working so hard and collectively.

York and North Yorkshire is in desperate need of a better integrated transport system.
In North Yorkshire alone we have seen a decline in over 50% of miles covered by buses since 2010.
We have seen bus passenger numbers decline year on year, rural communities become isolated and many of our roads are heavily congested.
The answer is public transport and this announcement from @LouHaigh is exactly what we need to get buses working right across our region.

Today marks 100 days since I became the first Mayor for York and North Yorkshire and it’s been the honour of my lifetime to take up the position.
In that time the team and I have announced nearly £30million in funds for projects including my High Street Fund, delivered Brownfield Housing Funding to build almost 1000 new homes, 433 of which are affordable and we are in the process of creating our Business Board.
It’s also been a great pleasure to bring in @jocoles1 into the team as my Police Fire and Crime Commissioner.
I can’t wait to continue to work with partners across the region to build a York and North Yorkshire that works for everyone.
