Remember when Travis Kelce threw his helmet during the Las Vegas Raiders game? Then the trainer attempted to give Kelce his helmet back and Andy Reid intercepted it? Andy Reid gave Kelce a little body shove afterwards… but Kelce absorbed it a bit better than Big Red. 😂 Perhaps it’s just a part of their relationship?

On behalf of the Shoff and Criddle families, we share the sad loss of a giant of a man—a giant in every sense of the word. Our world has been flipped upside down. We are reeling and devastated. No words can describe the void we are all experiencing right now. Jacob William Shoff has left this temporal state and returned to his Heavenly Father who gave him life. Those who came in contact with Jake had the blessing of interacting with a singular human. Jake always left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of those with whom he interacted. We are all better for knowing Jake. No one was like our Jake. No one can fill the massive shoes that he has left. His friendship was unmatched. He was an extraordinary sibling.. the best brother anyone could ask for. He was the ultimate father to Zach, Brady, Grant and Max. He was the most loving, caring and supportive husband to Emily. He was the best of us! Jake loved the Gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. We take heart in the plan of salvation. We look forward with faith in the eventual reuniting of eternal families. Please mourn with us, please pray with us, but more so than anything else, please help us to commemorate and celebrate his life and the impact that he made on all of us in his 46 years on this earth. We invite you to respond to this post and share what you loved most about Jake or any special memories you had with him and about him. You can also send your memories via email to rememberjakeshoff@gmail.com. We are gathering any photos or videos you have of Jake and would appreciate you sharing your love and appreciation for him. At this time we can assure you that Jake would want all of us to “Rise and Shout” in this life! Seize the day! Make an impact in the lives around you! Love your friends and family! Let us all be more like Jake today and forever.

🚨 BYU Extends Long-Term Contract with Head Football Coach Kalani Sitake 🚨 BYU Director of Athletics Tom Holmoe announced Saturday that the university has finalized a long-term contract extension with head football coach Kalani Sitake, ensuring he will continue leading the Cougars well into the future. “It’s an honor to announce this long-term agreement to keep Kalani Sitake as BYU’s head football coach,” said Holmoe. “Over the past nine years, Kalani has built a program culture that aligns with the mission of Brigham Young University and our sponsoring institution, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has not only developed his players into exceptional athletes but has also prepared them for success beyond the game. Kalani’s commitment to BYU runs deep, from his days as a fan and player to his leadership as head coach. Amidst a rapidly changing college football landscape, it’s reassuring to have a dedicated and consistent leader like Kalani at the helm.” Sitake, whose previous contract extended through 2027, has been recognized for his outstanding leadership during the Cougars’ transition into the Big 12 Conference. In 2024, he was named the AFCA Region 4 Coach of the Year and was a finalist for the AFCA National Coach of the Year after guiding BYU to a 10-2 regular-season record and a 7-2 conference finish, tying for first place in the Big 12 standings. “I am deeply grateful for the continued trust and support from President Reese, Vice President Vorkink, Athletic Director Tom Holmoe, and Deputy AD Brian Santiago,” Sitake said. “Before I became the head coach at BYU, I was first a Cougar fan and then a player here. It’s humbling to serve as head coach at this incredible university, and I fully believe in its mission. I love working with the remarkable young men, coaches, and staff in our program and look forward to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the Big 12 Conference.” Since taking over as head coach in 2016, Sitake has led BYU from FBS independence to membership in the Big 12 Conference. Over nine seasons, he has compiled a 71-43 record (.623). During BYU’s final three years of independence (2020-2022), the Cougars achieved a 29-9 record, with Sitake earning accolades as a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award and a semifinalist for the George Munger Collegiate Coach of the Year Award in consecutive years. Sitake’s leadership has propelled BYU to three double-digit win seasons in the past five years, with notable achievements in 2020 (11-1), 2021 (10-3), and 2024 (10-2). Over this period, the Cougars have maintained a .710 winning percentage, ranking Sitake ninth among active FBS coaches in that span. The program has also excelled against top-tier competition, including a 2024 Strength of Record ranking of No. 12 nationally, with eight victories over Power Five opponents. During his tenure, Sitake has emphasized holistic player development both on and off the field. He introduced the Built4Life career development program, which prepares student-athletes for life after football by offering professional development and career readiness opportunities. Additionally, 13 of his players have been selected in the NFL Draft since he became head coach. Sitake is BYU’s 14th head football coach and only the fourth to lead the program since 1972, following Hall of Famer LaVell Edwards, Gary Crowton, and Bronco Mendenhall. As the first former BYU player to take the role, Sitake has continued the program’s tradition of success, achieving a 4-2 record in bowl games and helping BYU rank No. 8 nationally in total wins since 1972. A native of Nukuʻalofa, Tonga, and raised in Laie, Hawai‘i, and Provo, Utah, Sitake made history as the first FBS head coach of Tongan descent. Earlier this week, it was announced that he will be inducted into the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame in January 2025.

Jay Hill on earning the starting job: "We had guys come to me saying, 'Coach, I need to know I’m the starter.' And I said, 'Be the starter. Earn it.' I’m not guaranteeing anything. That’s not fair to the 105 other guys fighting for that spot. If you want to be built for the NFL, you can’t expect guarantees. If you can’t beat out the guys at BYU, how are you going to make it in the NFL?"

Our beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, and everyone’s best friend, Jacob William Shoff, 46, was called to return home to his Father in Heaven on February 6, 2025, after a tragic car accident. He was a giant of a man in every respect, larger than life with a heart of gold. It is impossible to fully describe how deeply he will be missed, but we know that through our Savior Jesus Christ, we will be reunited with him again. A viewing will be held Thursday evening, February 13th, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Another viewing will be held Friday, February 14th from 9:30-10:30 AM, followed by his funeral at 11:00 AM. Both viewings and the funeral will be held at 5335 W 11200 N Highland, Utah. Jake was born on September 22, 1978, in Biloxi, Mississippi, the third of seven children born to Carl Clinton Shoff and Mary Ann Doxey Shoff. Carl and Mary Ann taught their children the Gospel of Jesus Christ. These principles are well exemplified in Jake’s life and were instrumental in him becoming the man that he is. Jake was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints his entire life. Jake’s faith was an integral part of his life and he valiantly served in each Church calling or assignment he was given. He made an immeasurable impact on countless lives. Jake was an extremely talented, highly motivated young man and excelled in every sport, passion, or activity in which he participated. He became an Eagle Scout by the age of 15. He became a standout high school basketball and football player at Viewmont High School in Farmington (sophomore and junior years) and American Fork High School (senior year). At American Fork, he led his team to a region championship and was named the Region 4 Tri-Player of the Year. That same season he led his team to a state title appearance and was named first team all-state. Jake began his collegiate basketball career at Weber State University, where he made an immediate impact as a freshman playing in 27 games. After his freshman year, he completed a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving and loving the people of Honduras. Upon returning from his mission, Jake played in 28 games as a sophomore, pulling down a team-best 6 rebounds per game. He was third in the nation at Weber State in rebounds per minute played. In 2001, Jake transferred to Brigham Young University. During his time with the Cougars, he appeared in 57 games and was instrumental in leading the team to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances. Known for his physical play and efficiency, Jake shot over 60% from the field during his time at BYU. Jake is one of only four BYU basketball players in history with a career FG% of at least 60%. His contributions were vital to the team's success during his tenure. Jake was the type of player that you wish you had on every team, a competitor that brought “it” every single day. Jake was the ideal teammate on and off the court, always willing to do whatever it took to help his team win. He was the ultimate “Team Guy”. (1 of 2 🧵)

Former BYU RB Jamaal Williams joined @espnthefan to discuss the rivalry and NFL Free Agency: Q: When did you move here permanently? How long have you been in Utah, and how’s that transition been — especially coming from the offseason down in New Orleans? Jamaal: Well, honestly, ever since I got to BYU, I’ve always lived here. Even during the offseasons, I stayed. I always knew I’d make Utah home. I’ve got family here — some who lived on campus when I was at BYU, and more family in South Jordan. So it was natural for me to stick around. And man, I love it here. Utah’s where I learned about genuine family — real, unconditional love. People who care about you as a person, not just for what you’ve done or the accolades you have. I love that they treat me like a normal dude. Plus, my daughter’s out here — she’s a true Utahn. She made me into one. I moved closer just so I could be near her. She’s got her dad around now, and that’s the best thing ever. The other day I went to her middle school — they had a little “walk-a-thon” thing, kids just walking around the block. Tell me why I ran it three times! (laughs) First time was with her — told her, “I’m gonna beat you!” Second time, some little kids came up like, “Hey, you’re Jamaal Williams! Wanna race?” And I’m like, “Bet.” You know I can’t turn that down. Beat them too. Third time my daughter’s like, “Let’s go again.” And I’m like, “Alright, fine!” Beat her again. Then I’m exhausted — and suddenly all these little kids are crowding me, pulling out shoes, papers, whatever, asking for autographs. I’m like, “Y’all too young to even know who I am!” But some of them really did. That’s when you know you’re getting old — when kids say, “I used to watch you when I was little!” (laughs) But it’s the best, man. My daughter’s face when people come up to me is hilarious — she’s like, “Can y’all back up? That’s MY dad.” I love every second of it. I’m always respectful, though. I’m grateful for anyone who wants a picture or autograph. But really, I just love being out here — being close to her, being part of the community. Q: You know BYU fans love you, man. Cougar Nation still shows you a ton of love — especially when you pop up at games. Jamaal: (laughs) Those are paid actors! I paid Ronald Weaver to say all that nice stuff. Q: Nah, they love you, man. It’s been awesome seeing you at BYU games, supporting the boys. You’re close with Tyler, you’ve watched LJ run the ball — what’s that been like? Jamaal: Man, I love watching those guys. When LJ breaks runs, I’m over there like, “Boy, you better take that to the house!” (laughs) I remember being the young guy, getting that same push from the older dudes. When I was at BYU, Harvey Unga was that for me We’d be running drills, and Harvey was teaching us everything he knew. That’s what I try to do for the younger backs now. Just be that support system. I tell them all the time, “Ask me anything.” I love coming back to campus, working out, staying ready. Free agency is what it is right now, but I’m blessed to have a place like BYU where I can train, stay in shape, and keep my mindset right. Q: I love that, man. Blessings to you and the fam. I mean, your NFL career’s been incredible — especially that Detroit year under Coach Dan Campbell. Seventeen touchdowns, breaking Barry Sanders’ record… unreal. Jamaal: I give all that credit to my O-line, Coach Campbell, Ben Johnson, and Deuce Staley. They believed in me and knew how to use my strengths. They put me in position to succeed. I’ll always be grateful for that. Q: You’ve always had that violent, downhill running style — fearless, physical. That’s been you since high school in Fontana. Jamaal: (laughs) Yeah man, that’s just me. Run through faces — that’s what I do. Full interview: spreaker.com/episode/10-16-2… 📸: @BYUfootball @BYUphoto
