Doenjang Salmon Rice Bowl with Pickled Daikon
My take on an Eric Kim recipe.
This is lovely. Deeply flavoured and delicious.
Full recipe is on my Instagram page

ALT A bowl of sticky rice topped with roasted salmon glazed in a rich doenjang sauce, garnished with caramelised onions, sliced spring onions, and sesame seeds. A delicate rose of pickled daikon sits on the side. Chopsticks and a small bowl of extra pickled daikon are placed alongside.

Dear media, a 14 year old boy is not a young man.
He is a child.
A child will was set upon by a mob and severely beaten, requiring hospitalisation and left with with concussion, broken teeth and a shoe print on his forehead.
The lady on the left of this photo is Wanda Traczyk-Stawska. She is 93 years old. In 1944, aged 17, she took part in the Warsaw Uprising to liberate the city from Nazi German forces. Today she took part in #StrajkKobiet
Dear some men, (you know who you are), if a toiletries company ad saying that being a man does not mean being a hateful prick offends your sense of your own masculinity, you probably need to have a quiet considered look at that. #GilletteAd
I am in genuine awe at the courage, strength and resilience Nikita Hand has shown in taking this case, and in how she dealt with the hearing.
She really is an extraordinary, inspiring woman.

I was 14. Within 6 months of the visit I was raped for 1st time by a Priest who had been ordained despite the Church knowing he was a paedophile. 15 years later I sued Pope JPII to try get the Vatican to tell the truth about what they knew about the priest jrnl.ie/4151688
I’m really struggling with the coverage if the Ana Kriegel murder trial. Obviously it’s vital that a trail takes place...but the public reporting of every detail feels voyeuristic to me. It’s an horrific case. My heart is broken for her, and her family.
The last Magdalene Laundry closed in 1996.
Condoms were illegal until 1979, and largely banned until 1985.
In 2002, senior church figures and their defenders were asserting that internal church rules (Canon Law) was superior to the law of this republic.
Savita died in 2012.
And now that #8thRef is all over...and I can say this without being accused of having some kind of agenda...can we please, please please ban posters for elections and referendums?
Man found guilty in a civil trial of the sexual abuse of a woman invites another man found guilty in a civil trial of the rape of a woman to his house.
Birds of a feather…
Our lovely old girl Ellie let go last night. She was almost 15. She was such a character. Bless her. She was very infirm of late - yesterday evening she wandered up the lane & found a warm pile of straw in the shed on the farm, lay down & let go. As ever, she did it her way. ❤️
Someone just reminded me that it is 25 years this year since I first came home to Ireland to report my abuse at the hands of a Catholic priest. It’s been a hell of a 25 years. Suing the pope, founding One in Four, campaigns for justice for victims of abuse...so much change
Please focus your thoughts and concerns on:
1. The woman and child in a serious condition after today’s attack.
2. The other children who were injured.
3. The people who witnessed that horrific attack.
4. The community suffering mob violence tonight.
The UK was the first country to sign a deal with Pfizer/BioNTech - now we will be the first to deploy their vaccine
To everyone involved in this breakthrough: thank you
In years to come, we will remember this moment as the day the UK led humanity’s charge against this disease
If your response to someone voicing her upset about the horrific murder of two men, the stabbing of another and a violent assault on yet another for who they were, is to attack her for how she identifies as an LGBTQ person, you really need to step back and do some deep reflection
I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve had homophobic slurs hinting at or baldly suggesting I’m a risk to children. The simple appalling reality is that for most gay men who end up working in public life in some form another, at some stage they will face this crap.
Some news.
After 14 years as Executive Director at @AmnestyIreland I am moving on.
It has been a huge privilege to work with so many incredible colleagues and partners over these years. I will always be tremendously proud of the work we have done together.
Given that the name of the TikTok account is visible here, it should be easy enough for the Gardai to identify those responsible for this racist assault. This is appalling. I hope they are indentified and brought to account.
This is Robin. Robin comes into our house a few times a day and hops around looking for crumbs. He is remarkably tame, just flys in, flys and hops around a bit and leaves in his own time. I for one very much appreciate his help with housekeeping.
#Liveline is devestating right now. Heartbreaking. The suffering people have endured to protect public health is horrendous. But they did it. People aren’t just angry about #Clifden they are devastated by it. The hurt, the devastation of it all. That needs to be understood.
We light a candle here in our home tonight in memory of the 27 people who needlessly died in the Channel a week ago. These people were seeking refuge and had no safe route.
Solidarity knows no borders 💛
Blaming the weather, the long walk, RTÉ, seriously...in 1979 more than one third of the population travelled to the Phoenix Park. We had crap roads, we were poorer, cars weren’t great & public transport was fairly rubbish. People didn’t go in August because they didn’t want to.
Truly awful news.
So very sad to hear this.
It is hard to think of an artist who has had the social and cultural impact of Sinead.
What a loss.
Heartfelt condolences to her children, her family and all who loved her.

Archbishop Diarmuid Martin retires today. I want to pay him a personal tribute and wish him all the best. He is a man of enormous integrity, decency, compassion and empathy. He made a huge difference in his role as Archbishop of Dublin, we owe him a lot.
“I’m living with HIV. Now you have that information, it makes me extremely vulnerable, but it does not make me weak. Now even though I’ve been forced to tell you this. I choose to fight and educate to break the stigma around this subject”. @gareththomas14 is a great man #UequalsU
Vaguely irritated by a few young progressives on here today subtweeting about Marian. Her show of late may not have been to everyone’s taste, but if they effect a tiny fraction of the change she did in her lifetime, they will have achieved a huge amount.
We all owe health care workers so much. They are literally on the front line of this. Such incredible commitment, courage & care. We need to let them all know how grateful we are & that we are thinking of them. And when this is all over - street parties in their honour! #Covid_19
In Bucharest. About to do a walking tour. The guide asks me where I’m from. I tell him. “Ah, he replies. Ireland, the home of the @Rubberbandits”. Nice.
Inspiring, courageous women.
We should laud their courage, & at the same time ask why our society REQUIRES victims of abuse to show such courage in the first place. We need a more courageous society...one which enables rather than limits capacity of victims to report abuse
‘Come forward and ‘don’t be afraid’ - Helen, whose father James O'Reilly was jailed for 20 years for the repeated rape and sexual abuse of his seven daughters and his younger sister, appeals to other victims of abuse. More @rtenews.
I’m done folks. I won’t be replying to or engaging with whataboutery, insults or other such nonsense from anti-abortion accounts. The referendum is over. The people have made their decision.
Wow. Just wow. Finally catching up on how this day played out. I was so in it, in the sheer beauty and power of #Stand4Truth that I hadn’t seen any of this: #PopeinIreland Why there was a huge protest in Dublin on the same day Pope Francis said Mass nitter.app/i/events/1033755220092…
It is a Supreme Court ruling, and therefore a matter of legal fact. Staggering that Boris appears to believe that his take on this carries greater weight than a unanimous ruling by ELEVEN Supreme Court Justices.
Emmanuel Macron says the Irish backstop is "indispensable."
@siobhni says the reason Boris Johnson doesn't understand that is a long-held tradition of British ignorance.
This really is an exceptional thread. It shows what an incredible broadcaster Gay Byrne was, & how brave so many people were in confronting the devastating & destructive denial of the realities of human sexuality - also what a respectful debate! No ranting, no hyperbole.
Good for him. He is living his best life. And the mans got rhythm! Wild abandon isn’t the sole domain of under 25’s. Love how utterly unselfconscious he is. Brilliant.
I survived. I found my feet, my heart, my voice. I love who I was then, and who I am now. And you will never shame me. Never. I was beautiful. And brave. And strong. I am still. Sorry about that. ❤️
Ah would you ever feck off with the stupid question on whether either of them have ever taken illegal drugs. Seriously. 🙄 how about some real questions on drug policy? #HarmReduction#GE2020#VMTVBigDebate
Natasha O’Brien is a truly extraordinary person - her integrity, clarity, courage, and her humanity is all so inspiring.
She has been horribly failed by our justice system. This cannot stand.
Dear @Pontifex It’s 25 years this year since I first began to think about how I could find a way to report being raped and abused as a child by a Roman Catholic Priest. It took me a year to find the courage to go to the police & report it #Stand4Truth
This really is extraordinary. Incredibly focused questioning by @PearseDoherty I really hope this is pursued further. The use of such a fraudulent narrative to justify high premiums and increases is appalling.
Sinn Féin Finance spokesperson @PearseDoherty has called out the insurance industry for magnifying the scale of the issue of fraudulent claims in order to justify their high premiums and increases.
Seriously. This is dangerous nonsense. And by the way, the corruption of public discourse by spreading this sort of rubbish is in no way worthy or courageous. It is poisonous.
Some pesonally exciting news for you. From today I will have a weekly cookery column in @irishexaminer I am beyond thrilled! My first column features a recipe I have had brilliant feedback on - Chorizo, Butternut Squash & Spring Onion Pizza. #coronacookingirishexaminer.com/lifestyle/…
There’s an awful lot of accounts with a dozen or so followers getting terribly upset by a few hundred people having a dance outside the Dáil. Terribly triggered they are. I’m a little worried for them. A bit of love and joy seems such a threat to them. #Pence
Five years ago today. I voted Yes, with these two alongside me, before dropping them to school. Then I drove to work, sobbing as I heard all the #HometoVote stories flood in. I remember himself telling me to find a quiet room to go lie down in for a while! 😂 #MarRefMemories
So, there it is. A whopping 85% of people in the RTE #EuropeanElection2019 exit poll are “delighted” that Ireland has become more liberal. There is no ‘liberal agenda’, no elite pushing their progressive views, this is just Ireland.
Perhaps the most powerful clip I’ve ever seen. “This is us. If we are going to get past this, we can’t blame it on him. He’s a manifestation of the ugliness that’s in us.” Please watch. Think. Own. And share this widely. #ElPaso#Racism
I’m thinking of restarting my #coronacooking series. Seeing as things look a little less rosy. Maybe 2-3 recipes a week as opposed to one a day though. What do you think?
Dear media -
When reporting yesterdays events outside the Oireachtas, please be clear.
Many ‘protestors’ are known far-right bigots and thugs.
The ‘protests’ were:
Anti-refugee
Anti-migrant
Anti-trans rights
Please be unambiguous.
25 years ago this week, I came back to Ireland from London to report the abuse I suffered at the hands of a Catholic priest to the Gardaí. An Ireland still dominated by the Church & other orthodoxies. Where the idea that the state should hold the church to account was unthinkable
Some monstrous troll is sending me videos of gay men being murdered by being thrown off the top of buildings by religiously inspired thugs. How utterly fucking obscene do you have to be to think that is somehow a decent thing to do?
Powerful, stunning & incredibly important piece by Chris, one of two women subjected to a violent assault on a London bus - “My persisting anger is directed not towards the idiots on the bus but the reduction of my battered face to cheap clickbait” #LGBTtheguardian.com/commentisfre…
I take it new powers have also been introduced to ensure that people living in #DirectProvision centres are not forced to share bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, shower rooms etc and to be able to practice social distancing, protecting themselves & public health? #EndDP
Osaka to Kyoto.
14 mins on a bullet train, for less than €10, or 29 mins on another bullet train option with a few stops for less than €4.
Or by road, 55 mins with €22 in tolls, or 1 hour and 37 mins without tolls.
Japanese public transport is phenomenal.
If you, or someone you love has been abused or hurt by the Catholic Church, or if you wish to stand in solidarity with those who have been abused, please join me at the Garden of Remembrance #Dublin at 3pm on Sunday August 26th. #PapalVisit#Ireland More info to follow soon.
I’m delighted to say that I’m receiving a huge amount of live and support. Ireland is a different country to 1979. And I’m grateful for that, and hugely proud of it too. #Stand4Truth
@Colmogorman no doubt you'll be receiving a huge amount of hate-mail right now, but you have my sincerest gratitude for your bravery in addressing Francis' inept response to the church's wrong-doing. Fair feckin' play.
I’ve a very thick skin, I have to. But @TwitterSupport if this bile doesn’t violate your rules against abusive behaviour, then your rules are seriously flawed. You can’t claim to be anti-hate and permit this. Shame on you.
I have this thing where every day I try to look up and appreciate beauty. A soaring bird of prey, a tree, autumn leaves...you get the gist. Something to remind me how beautiful life is. Well, today is Tom Hardy’s 42nd Birthday. Happy Tom Hardy’s Birthday everyone.
Thank you for your considered view Professor. However, the Irish people, by an overwhelmingly majority, beg to differ. 92% of us believe we have benefited from EU membership, and 85% think EU membership is a good thing. We are very proudly Irish, and also European.
So much hateful, patronising nonsense being spouted about @GretaThunberg by people who are intimidated by her clarity, insight & eloquence. Most especially suggestions that she doesn’t know her own mind, because of her age or because she has Asperger syndrome. Pathetic drivel.
Not good when a candidate for any public office says they will do job for no pay. Risks making elected office domain of those who are independently wealthy. No office holder, incl President, should have say on salary for role. Such decisions should be independently made #Aras18
Male violence is a scourge. Every day women are harassed, assaulted, raped and murdered by men - simply because they are women. The question we must answer is not what women can do to keep themselves safe - it is what can we do to end male violence.
Is it morally right to frame a question in a manner that appears to question the moral value and dignity of a specific minority? A framing that demonises and stigmatises them?
My period of #homelessness was the result of running away to escape years of sexual abuse at the hands of a priest. So that may have been caused by “bad behaviour”, but it wasn’t mine.
I have endless love and respect @TaraFlynn She is courage, compassion, dignity, love and humanity at its best personified. The crap she had endured as a result of her courage is sickening. I know she is taking a SM break, but let’s get #WeLoveYouTara trending. Show the love!
Starting my new job today.
After more than 14 years in my last role - it feels wonderfully strange!
Excited and hugely motivated by the work that lies ahead.
Ah folks. What an amazing young boy. What an attitude. Given what he has likely endured. His openness to people, to culture and languages, his desire to know more, to connect, to belong. I hat an inspiration
