Today was a blessed one! One that to be honest I didn't see coming this quickly. But that is a good thing, God dosent give you situations you aren't prepared for. To have over 100 kids at a school of our size, in your first football meeting for the school year is absolutely amazing. Put this in perspective two years ago when I took over as the head coach at Vista Grande High School we only had 13 kids at our first meeting. This is a testament to the young men who believed in the process, our coaches who established that process and culture, and to the parents who have supported us from the beginning! We're only getting started we will Embrace this blessing because we know it truly comes from God, and we will continue to work hard because we know just as quick as this happened it could be taken away. Please keep the young men and women who attend Vista Grande High School, Casa Grande Union High School, Vista Grande Spartan Football, Casa Grande Union Cougar Football & Casa Grande Union High School District in your prayers. Our kids are going through it right now. The last six months have been a lot to experience and process for our kids. Both High schools have experienced tragedy on a level I wouldn't wish on anyone. Two students, a young lady who graduated recently, and a Football Coach who was also a security guard have all passed away due to different and profound circumstances. Our children go through so much in a society where information travels at light speed and exposes them to things our parents just twenty to thirty years ago could protect us from. We are unable to do this effectively now with our children even though many of us are trying to do so on a daily basis. I would ask if possible that the City of Casa Grande come together and wrap our arms around our children right now. They need us regardless of where they at in the grieving process. It will come in waves and they need to know that any time is the right time to grieve, feel, and heal. We will do this together & we will do this in God's time. There was a time when our program had only 13 players & had never won more than 2 wins in a season in close to a decade, and did not have the respect of our community who already has 100 years of tradition with our towns first high school. Three years later we only had averaged six seniors a year in our starting lineups culminating with this year we had two seniors signed today on Signing Day, with another two more projected to be signing with a University later this month. Next year we will have 35 seniors who are ready to go! I'm extremely proud of Darrius Brown @Darius_444 who signed with Rocky Mountain College in Billings Montana and Gabriel Barrera @GMBarrera_2024 who signed today also with Manchester University in Indiana. In today's era where transferring is the norm. (I'm pro kid) You don't see a lot of kids choose to be part of a change in culture, perception etc.. These young men I'm forever indebted to. I'm truly going to miss coaching them. They earned this day today! It's been hard losing one of my coaches on my staff due to suicide. Since then I've been reflecting on my ways I can get better as a person to increase my awareness of mental health issues, and how to deal with them with effective practice methods. When my Athletic Director approached me with this opportunity I saw it as Gods timing in taking a step in the right direction. I really enjoyed myself today at the Arizona Cardinals seminar on Mental Health awareness. It was held at the Diginity Health Cardinals practice facility. The panel was very informed and thorough. They definitely gave me some nuggets of wisdom to help me on my journey. Great day of performances today at the Cottonwood Mingus 7 on 7 Tournament / Big Man Challenge. Placed 3rd in the 7 on 7 tourney only losing to two 6A schools. We got the victory tonight 44 to 0 against Rio Rico High School. They have not only one of the best high school Coaches in AZ history in Jeff Scurran but one of the best Football Stadiums in the State bar none. He's working his magic down there their numbers are increasing year after year. My hat is off to him the legend himself. I know I'm late but I've been blessed to be a part of something great. This last weekend we went to Santa Maria California and played St Joseph's High School. We played a very hard-fought game and won 26 to 24, and to travel that far and still be able to compete at a high level just shows how far this program @VGHSFootball has gone. The city of Santa Maria really took care of us during that time and I'm forever grateful to that community. I can't wait for them to come back to Casa Grande, Arizona so we can show them the love that was shown to us. I got a chance to see one of my coaches and lifelong friends that I haven't seen in close to 20 plus years. And I got a chance to see two of my best friends that I hang out with every year when I do my tour with Glazier clinics @GlazierClinics . So far this season has been a hell of a journey that I know God is with us it's been a hell of a ride so far. My boys got the win today against Pueblo High School 14 to 7. I'm proud of them. They were able to win for the first time in awhile where all the chips were against them they pulled it out. I try to let the refs know before and during the game that I support them. I know that there is a shortage and Coaches and parents can make their job extremely difficult, thus making retention damn near non existent. But what happened tonight I wouldn't wish on anyone they gotta get better as a whole. We had a wonderful time this morning at our National Day of Service honoring the September 9/11 tragedy. We combined both football teams and cheerleading squads inn the Casa Grande High School District and had them paint the CG on CG Mountain white . It's not only about football but it's about teaching our young men how to become excellent ambassadors and members of their community. If we can teach our young men to love our community, then we will never have to worry about who's in charge when we pass the baton.
