HC St. Edward HS and USA Basketball. 2 State Titles/5 Gold Medals/12 State Final 4’s, McDonalds AA game and Nike Hoop Summit. Proud husband and father of 4
Cannot explain what tonight meant to me. @Sean_Flan10 coaching on the opposite side- he is a fantastic coach and is going to have a great career! I’m a proud dad! Thanks to all the family, friends, players that came out tonight. Great atmosphere!! Thanks to my team and to @WalshJesuitMBB for a great memory! @SEHS_BASKETBALL
The ONE thing I love about AAU, it helps me realize how far away MY kids are away from a D1 scholarship. I just wish other parents would as well! #Realtalk
Great catching up with @dreeanes at the Cavs game tonight. Former @SEHS_BASKETBALL player and now the Kelce’s manager, doing a great job!! Heading out to Taylor Swift concert tomorrow in Singapore-safe travels!!
Kids NEED to be in school for their mental, emotional, social, and physical health. Extracurriculars r just as important to their development. If we continue to keep them away there r going to be much worse consequences
Start thinking of our young people!
August Mind Candy
My suggestion to @OHSAASports May 7th is 8 weeks from now. Perfect weekend to finish off winter sports tourneys. Following week spring sports begin thru May and June, Spring state tourney in early July. Seniors head off to college. Start scheduling now! Just my thoughts.
Regarding all the speculation on the CSU job, Would like to put an end to it.Thx to all the coaches that reached out, college, HS, and professional. I am extremely happy to say that I will be returning to St. Edward HS next year and attempt to win another State Title! #GoEagles
It saddens me to share the passing of longtime assistant coach Tom Bodle. Coach passed this morning after a battle with Covid. Please keep Tom and his family in your prayers. #edsup#RIP
First player led practice of the season. Coaches do not coach unless asked by players. Builds communication. Was one of the best practices of the year. Player led teams are better than coach led teams if done in the right way! Proud of this group! #edsup
Did a very selfish thing today. Because I care about MYself, MY family, MY friends, MY team, etc.. I got the Booster!!! You do you, I will take care of me and those around me!!
So it’s official, @Sean_Flan2 has finished the season as the leader in assist to turnover ratio in the entire NCAA- Div. 1,2,3. That’s the BEST in the COUNTRY! Congrats Sean Flannery!
I am not sure how to take this in our coaching profession. What is supposed to be the highest level in our game, it takes zero experience to get the best jobs. I understand the @NBA is a different game, however still frustrating to see. Our game is in a weird place.
ESPN Sources: JJ Redick has agreed on a four-year contract to become the next coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. Rob Pelinka offered job this morning and Redick’s started working on a staff to surround himself with experience.
Thanks to all who have Congratulated me on win #450, simply put- I’m getting old and have had great players and great assistant coaches. Love being at St. Ed’s all these years! #edsup
I cannot state this loud enough. I am happy and excited for ALL the teams that have made the Final 4 this year @OHSAASports but all these teams do not get to experience what the Final 4 weekend meant in the past and I feel bad for them all. It’s a shame what we are doing to our sport and the kids. I am getting old, but I feel for those who cannot experience what I have. First- St. John Arena, now the Final 4- what’s next?
Sad day for @mamaflan6 and I, we watched our last child play their last competitive game of their career. Fun ride. Advice to parents: enjoy them, support them and love them. Let your child succeed and fail on their own and sports will teach them lessons that last a lifetime!
As the season has “officially” been cancelled, wanted to publicly acknowledge this great team, most reg. season wins in St. Ed’s history, one of only 3 teams to win final game, 2 Final 4s with another one pending. Most importantly great young men. Love you guys! @SEHS_BASKETBALL
As we lay longtime assistant coach Tom Bodle to rest today, it is simply a reminder to be kind to others, appreciate the small things, and tell the ones close to you- you love them. Tom was the definition of a servant leader. #RestInPeace dear friend!
Very thankful that the @OHSAASports@Jerry_Snodgrass have decided NOT to cancel the State Tourney at this time, they will re-evaluate after 3 weeks, there is still a chance we can play!!!! Awesome and sensible response. #edsup#KeepTheFaith#StayHealthy
We lost a great person in our St. Edward community on Mother’s Day! Rest In Peace Maureen Ashdown. A vibrant, caring, and fun person to be around. Her positivity and humor will be missed! @wearesteds
14 years ago today my dad passed away, not a day goes by when I don’t think of his influence on me. A kind man who loved March Madness as much as anyone! Class of ‘56 at Ed’s! Love you!
Just another example of how college recruiting has been influenced- Sincere Carry- is one of the best in the state- yet only D2 offers? Where is CSU? Where is the MAC? Would love to see college BBall today when they just recruited HS players- that were scouted-in school- etc.
I think @wearesteds needs a snow day tomorrow and Tuesday. These kids have never seen a #Browns playoff win in their lifetime, need time to recover. And OSU tomorrow night!! What do you say Eagle Nation? #edsup
With tonight’s win for @SEHS_BASKETBALL we are now 20-1, only one team in St. Ed’s history has won 20 games in a regular season, tomorrow we go for the school record of 21 regular season wins, that’s over 70 years! #edsup
Going to miss this guy. Leaving this morning for his GA job with @XavierMBB it’s like he’s leaving for college all over again, we love you and are so proud of you @Sean_Flan10
Personally, I believe all HS’s should promise this senior class, that no matter how long it takes- they will have an in-person graduation and prom. Majority would come back in 2 years if needed, and it’s the right thing to do! #2020Seniors
Nothing can take away from the great season and great run we had this year! Congrats to Pick Central for kicking our butts tonight- love my team, managers, coaches, and families- thanks for taking me on such a great ride!! Love you all!#edsup@SEHS_BASKETBALL
Making cuts today, one of the hardest days in the life of a coach. But always put myself in the players shoes and know it may be their toughest day as well. Coaches show empathy for EVERY player, they wanted to be a part of your program and they will be hurting.
I am all about family first, and have tried to make this guy proud every day. It’s been 15 years to this day that he passed away, but will never forget him or try to carry on his legacy. Miss you dad!
#OHSAA sectional round two: Russia now holding the ball from start of second quarter vs Jackson Center. Quarter just ended 6-4 at half.
This is not basketball @NFHS_Org@Jerry_Snodgrass
Great win tonight over Glenville, I was just as excited to see a St. Ed’s legend back in the nest tonight! @samclancy50 recently retired from an 18 year professional career. Drafted by the 76ers, first team All- American at USC! Led us to our first state title!@SEHS_BASKETBALL
So disappointed: surveyed my Health class, no more than 2 students have seen or heard of Any of the following movies; Miracle, Cinderella Man, Hoosiers, Glory Road, Coach Carter, and Secretariat. What do kids watch these days? It’s time to start teaching History!
So grateful to @wearesteds for the past 26 years! 500 is a big # but simply represents all the players, managers, coaches, and families who have made it possible. Most thankful for my family and @mamaflan6 she is true head of this family! Overwhelmed by all who have reached out!
Truly a family affair.
Over 20 years on the bench with my older brother Jim and now we welcome, for his first year coaching, my son @pjflan53 love what I do!!
@SEHS_BASKETBALL
We practiced this afternoon at U of T, we found out during that our season may b over, I cannot say how disappointed I am for these guys, especially our 8 seniors. Could be one of the best classes to ever hoop at St. Ed’s. We do understand and support @Jerry_Snodgrass#edsup
Very proud of my son @Sean_Flan10 who is “officially” on staff at Georgia State University- his first college coaching job! I’m not a big fan of the college route- but he is way better than I am!! @GeorgiaStateMBB @SEHS_BASKETBALL
One year ago today we lost a special young man, fun-loving, kind heart, a former player of mine and great person. We will never forget. RIP Kevin Boyer! #edsup
With tonight’s win @SEHS_BASKETBALL has set the all-time record for wins in a regular season with 21! I am so proud of this team! Now the REAL season begins! #edsup
This guy took 2 buses and the rapid everyday to school, got there at 6:30am and ever missed a day at St. Ed’s!! Doesn’t surprise me nitter.app/insidesportjp/status/1…
Tonight, after we won a district title, I am sad to say we lost a legendary St. Ed’s Basketball man- Mr. Jack Sheridan. Jack was always around our program, our score keeper for over two decades passed away this evening. Please keep him and his family in your prayers! #edsup
Congrats to Coach Chuck Kyle at St. Ignatius HS-
He set the standard for everyone in Ohio coaching! Unbelievable career and immeasurable impact on others! @SIHSSports@SEHS_FOOTBALL@SIHSCleveland
Just dropped @Sean_Flan10 off, heading to Las Vegas to work #NBASummerLeague you can check him out on #ESPN filling water bottles! Proud dad, all those years of basketball paying off, lol!
Congrats to @Sean_Flan10 for officially graduating today. Although today was not the “norm” we know that you will go on to do extraordinary things. We are all extremely proud of you. #JCUgraduation
Visited my Big brother @BryanFlannery1 he has been in the hospital for 2 weeks now from a fall that caused a severe concussion, he is doing great and well on his way out. Thx to all for prayers and well wishes on his behalf! #edsup@HobanAthletics@sehsathletics@NDFootball
Congrats to Lorain on a great game tonight, special performance by a great player. Very proud of my team on a great season and fighting all the way til the end, love my guys!! #edsup
18 years ago today my father passed away- he loved the “Chicken Dance” and always gave me great advice before a game- “we, the alumni, are with you win or tie”. Miss you dad!!
One of the greatest ever to walk the halls of St. Edward HS, Brother James Everett, passed away this morning. He will be missed and may he Rest In Peace. Truly a Man respected by all.
Tough way to end the season, this team was one of my favorites to coach. One heck of a year. Tonight was completely on me, I let them down. Kids left it all on the floor, congrats to Akron Hoban on great game. All the best and thanks to all for your support!! #edsup
@OHSAASports we all understand the concern and don’t disagree with taking precautions, however, the way this is being handled for the families of the players and coaches is simply not right. I hope you reconsider your position, these are once in a lifetime moments!
Thanks for the recognition, but honestly, was happy my mom and 7 brothers and sisters were there tonight, that’s what makes moments like this special! #family
About to begin year 27 as HC @SEHS_BASKETBALL each season brings new stories, challenges, relationships, joys, sorrows & more. This TEAM has had a great off-season, they have waited their turn to tell their story, we are excited to share. Let’s Go! “New Team Same Standard” #edsup
Having our team over tonight for a cookout to close out the season. We will do our best to social distance. Excited to see my guys in person, it’s been almost 3 months! #edsup@SEHS_BASKETBALL
Always tough when it ends. However, this year was one of my best as a coach, I loved going to practice every day. These young men made it fun. Worked hard, never complained, bought in to each other and made some amazing memories. Thank you to our seniors, great leaders. It’s not ALL about winning, but the journey. Love you guys! @SEHS_BASKETBALL
12th Final Four in D1- 4 decades (crazy) not sure how that stacks up in Ohio. Today feels just as sweet as all the others. So proud of this team- on to Dayton? What happened to Cbus? #edsup@SEHS_BASKETBALL
Huge win over Huntington prep 75-66. The boys really stepped up. Love seeing them so excited. One more big game tomorrow to finish off the weekend. Go eagles. #edsup
What a special group and special season, not sure I have been more proud of a team and all they have been thru. Thank you to our seniors Zoltan Nagy, Shane Maccala, Mason Lerch, Victor Colon, and Liam McIllwee. You did us all proud. The bounce didn’t go our way tonight! #edsup
The Flannery Basketball Academy is heading to Ireland!Excited to be running a clinic and working with my family, doing the thing I love!! Follow along, will be posting a lot! #ClevelandtoIreland@SEHS_BASKETBALL@usabjnt
What a game. I’m exhausted, can’t imagine how our guys feel. So proud of the effort by our squad. Congrats to @DeMathaHoops for a heck of a game and win. 4 Overtime loss to the nations 13th ranked team, 80-79! Back at it early tomorrow. #edsup
Proud of my team and their fight tonight- survive and advance is the tourney mantra for everyone. Congrats to Euclid on an unbelievable effort as well! #edsup
Tonight NEO basketball lost a great person and coach. Tim Schmotzer passed away after a courageous battle with Cancer. He was my 1st coaching mentor at St. Ed’s and a longtime friend. Please keep Tim, wife Renee and 2 children in your prayers! @gcbcadistrict2@SEHS_BASKETBALL
Celebrating @usabasketball Olympic Gold by packing up and getting ready to leave to coach the next generation of Gold Medal winners with @usabjnt#USA#FIBAu16
A bigger night for our manager Jack Loesch @jack_loesch13 he was accepted into the University of Notre Dame during our game tonight! Awesome and Congrats Jack! @SEHS_BASKETBALL@sehsathletics@NotreDame#edsup
If we r going to continue with NIL money for college athletes, I would like to see one change. Any money received must first go to cover tuition. Isn’t a scholarship similar to getting paid? This is coming from a dad who is paying for 4 college tuitions. @NCAA
