The NCAA forcing the last two teams standing in D3 baseball to play a DH today in order to save ONE night of hotels is truly ridiculous.

MLB is NOT why youth baseball numbers are down. Lacrosse numbers are up and no one's heard of pro lacrosse. Need to make the game more fun and more financially accessible for kids to attract bigger numbers.

Fav drill this year. Had staff go through warmups and get loose. Then sat them in dugout. One at a time they got 2 mins to run to pen, heat up and then get called to game mound where teammates bet if they could throw 7 of 10 pitches for strikes. Revealed a ton.

Baseball twitter is a cess pool during quarantine. People ripping each other left and right. The game is hard to play. Any drill is helpful, potentially. Not hard to take what you like and leave the rest alone. Our game needs positivity right now.

At MIT we call this: "Take the think away and let the athlete out." Really challenging for kids that are analytical by nature but doable. Great stuff here.
Corey Kluber's Sheriff Stare explained (audio). "You can't be analytical and competitive at the same time." From @EricCressey's great podcast with Kluber : ericcressey.com/elite-baseba…

We aren’t playing this spring and it’s tearing me up inside. That said, MIT is a special place doing the research to solve this. The communication was transparent, we deal with it. I can’t wait to get back on the field with our guys. We’re gonna get through this and be back.

I teach middle school and coach college baseball. Dad taught middle school for 29 years. No middle schoolers even close to ready for this decision. Borderline criminal that coaches are even offering these kids. They should lock us in a room at the convention until fixed.
2026’s are coming off the board. I’m just curious what is being said to a 2026 graduate at this point in his life? I am trying to learn here. I have no idea how to speak to a 13 year old about the 40 year decision he’s about to make

Recruiting emails that grind my gears, part one: Please don't tell me what test score you're "aiming for." I'm aiming for dinner Saturday night to be with Taylor Swift, but it ain't likely. Prepare, be well rested and take your best shot. No magic number.

There's a mental health crisis amongst student athletes happening RIGHT NOW. Check in with your players. We're not perfect and don't have all the answers but we're way better at addressing mental health than we were 5 years ago and we'll be better in 5 years. Keep learning.

Here's hoping that when this this finally ends, the NCAA dead period for recruiting is waived for the rest of 2020. We owe it to the kids to get them looks, the coaches to be able to work camps and we've all had enough "work-life balance" for one year.

This is the single best piece of advice out there. If baseball is important to you, watch college baseball. You'll figure out where you belong and learn a ton. Watch a d3 playoff game and see how good it is.

Seeing a lot of positive messaging to HS recruits today. Don't let your process be impacted by comparison to others. Applies to minor league players. Applies to coaches. Comparison is the thief of joy. You do you, on your clock, but don't be afraid to push.

We teach our pitchers chest to glove over glove to chest. I love this, I love Tom Brady and I miss him. I am still allowed to be a fanboy as long as someone my age is playing qb in the NFL.
The @TomBrady Front Side Tom’s cue when he squares up to the target is to bring his chest to his front side hand and actually touch his front side hand to his throwing shoulder. It’s not for everyone, but it’s what works for him!

Friendly reminder that PSA's should be sending emails, not parents. Three huge indicators of success in college are time management, physicality and how important baseball is. If it's not important enough to send your own emails it's a bad sign.
