🇮🇱 🇵🇸 Wael is an Arab Shopkeeper of Palestinian descent who I visited in the Old City of Jerusalem.
I’ve known him for well over a decade.
I don’t know where he stands politically or religiously, but I have no doubt there are many stark differences between the two of us.
Regardless, we choose to focus on the things we do have in common; our love for humanity, mutual respect, and shared ambitions for peace.
On this visit, I introduced him to my son and he introduced me to his. I asked about his extended family, and he asked about mine.
It was refreshing to spend time with someone who surely sees things differently than I do, but also is willing to look for the things we both have in common.
If we focus only on our differences we’ll have endless war and bloodshed, but if we find our common humanity, we might just have a chance at peace.
I think it’s worth investing in. 🕊️
