Really, really hoping MLB decides to eliminate the pitch clock in the 9th inning of close games (within 3 runs for me). The clock has been necessary and terrific, we just don't need to rush these moments. Every pitch here would have been a clear violation.

I asked my youngest son to use my first ever MLB bat in what could be his final travel ball game last night. "How old is this thing?" - 30 years "What kind of wood is this?" - Ash "The barrel is super small?" - I know "Ok, I might use it once." - He used it twice

I woke up yesterday, spent some time in the morning with my wife filling up her bird feeders on a beautiful sunny day, got a workout in and drove to Truist. Spent 3 hours on live TV with Frenchy, BG and Wiley and met amazing people around the ballpark. The Braves walked it off in front of 41+K. I drove home and slept in my own bed. My 31st year in the game started off with what might just be a top 5 moment for me. That was awesome and we get to do it again tonight. Thanks for the warm welcome #BravesCountry!

On Sept 8th the Texas Rangers just completed a 4-16 20-game span. They were in 3rd place 3.0 games back of Houston, 2.5 back of Seattle. Adolis Garcia was headed to the IL joining Josh Jung and Josh Sborz. Nate Eovaldi just came off the IL but he didn't look right. The bullpen posted a 6.92 ERA over those 20 games, the starters a 5.97. The offense hit .232 with a league worst .170 w/ RISP. The season outlook changed dramatically with 22 games to go and I can tell you things were tense around the club. Rangers Twitter was heavily disheartened. Since then they have gone 23-11 while taking out Tampa (99-63), Baltimore (101-61) and the defending World Champion & AL West Champion Houston Astros. I keep thinking about the fans who were interviewed coming out of the ballpark on Fox 4 after the devastating ALCS Game 5 loss. That hurt was real and we all couldn't help but feel that the season was in serious jeopardy. My first 6 seasons here the team went 124 games below .500, and 35-70 vs Houston. Now this club is headed to the World Series. You all deserve this. 4 more wins!! LFG!!!!

Do you know how many teams started a season 0-7 and made the postseason? Blah, blah, blah! Do you know how many teams have had losing streaks in a season of 7 or more games and still made the postseason? 85. Including 3 such streaks last year and 4 in 2023 (TEX 8G, ARI 9G and they played each other in the World Series!) I am fired up for the home opener and I hope you are too. This is a good team off to a bad start, it hasn't been sloppy, it hasn't been ugly. There are some hurdles to clear but it will get better and reinforcements are on the way. Tonight starts a run of eight 3-game series in the month of April. Win series. That's the goal. Win all 8 and you're 16-15 going into May. Ambitious? Sure. Necessary? No. Get on the bus. See you tonight.

It was subtle but it was a balk move and a really well executed one. Watch the left knee and left heel twitch first, that's the key and that it where baserunners focus. When done this well it is nearly impossible to catch in real time by an umpire, but Ronald knows what he saw.

Paul Molitor drilled a line drive off my inner thigh at Toronto. I wasn’t wearing a protective cup. I threw him out at 1B to end the inning. When I got back to the dugout Sparky Anderson asked if I was OK. I said I was fine. I pulled my pants down and had a 8-9” circular deep purple bruise on my thigh. He took me out of the game. As I was walking into the trainer’s room I grabbed a tootsie roll, bit it and a crown I had over a root canal completely broke and crumbled in my mouth. It was an awesome night. I started wearing a cup my next start. #TrueStory

I like the build up, the TV drama, crowd shots, exhales by Trout and Ohtani, the look of a stressed manager. No need to rush it and no need to even risk a game, any game, but especially a big one, ending on a clock violation. What we gain vs what we might lose doesn't add up.

Sadly, this is true as it comes up often at our weekly Monday meetings at the American Legion in Marietta. Generally people air their grievances about Ohtani and only going to the postseason in 24 of the last 33 seasons. Things often settle down after Sandy from Woodstock breaks out her signature brownies. Well, they're not just brownies, they also have some chocolate chip cookie throughout so they are more like a combo brownie/cookie thing and they are just to die for. The powdered sugar really puts them over the top. You have to be quick though because Justin from Dunwoody likes the edge pieces and so do I and if you let him, he'd eat all of the edge pieces. There is just something about biting into the crispy edge of brownie cookie magic that makes me feel better about Ohtani, even if it's just for a few days, then, thankfully that next Monday meeting is just around the corner. With each other and with baked treats, we find a way to get though the pain. #ChopOn #TheLeastFunCJ
Braves fans will never get over Ohtani spurning them even though that cheap franchise was never really in the running.
