I read the brief. It’s astonishingly stupid. For many reasons.
But start here:
- Breaking quorum is a well-established political tool used by both parties. It’s not abandonment (no one is permanently giving up their duties). It’s a strategy within a voting body to impact a potential … vote.
- We know what bribery is. It’s influence peddling. Not fundraising from the public to cover travel/fines (standard political activity).
These arguments are deeply unserious.

In the *4 days* since Texas House Democrats broke quorum to block his racist redistricting plan, Abbott has spent all his time trying to go after them. He’s:
— made his case on TV and in press releases multiple times.
— tweeted nearly a dozen times.
— drafted and filed a 30-page lawsuit with the Texas Supreme Court.
— Drafted and filed follow up arguments with the Court .
But this past March, when TX-18 in Houston lost our Congressman, Abbott showed 0 urgency in making sure the Black and Brown communities in that district had new representation.
No press releases. No TV appearances. No urgency.
Then, when he was shamed into saying something, he delayed the special election until November, leaving us without a voice in Congress for nearly a year—even through hurricane season.
Because let’s be real:
He doesn’t care about fair representation.
He doesn’t care about making sure communities have what’s guaranteed to them by the constitution.
And doesn’t care about helping Black and Brown communities.
He’s made clear he cares about only one thing: pleasing Donald Trump.
