Camp Cinder Shasta just wrapped, and these young women showed up ready. 🔥
For one week, campers from across California joined us to train in wildland firefighting, structure fire response, auto extrication, and water rescue, led by a team of female fire service instructors.
Camp Cinder is built on a simple idea: give young women a real, hands-on look at the fire service. Over the course of the week, that meant building new skills, forming new friendships, and building confidence.
To everyone who gave it their all this week: well done, and thank you.

Heat is developing this week, and higher humidity will cause it to feel warmer than expected & make it more difficult to cool down. Stay hydrated, and watch for signs of heat illness in yourself & others. Never leave anyone in a parked car, vehichles become deadly hot quickly.
ALT High pressure builds over the area bringing hot conditions to southwestern CA, from the interior to the coastal valleys. Monsoonal moisture will also arrive Tuesday, leading to temperatures feeling hotter than expected. Stay hydrated, seek shade, and watch for signs of heat exhaustion in yourself and others. Seek shelter in cool buildings, and never leave anyone in a parked car. Vehicles can become dangerously hot quickly.

Prescribed burns are a vital tool to reduce wildfire risk and protect our communities.
Before: Crews carefully plan for weeks—evaluating weather, fuels, and terrain, building control lines, coordinating with partners, and preparing resources.
During: Fire is intentionally ignited under strict conditions, with crews monitoring behavior, weather, and holding lines to keep it within the planned area.
After: Crews patrol for hot spots, secure the perimeter, and evaluate results to ensure objectives are met.
This week crews successfully completed the Spanish Valley (257-acre) prescribed burn in Pope Valley, Napa County.
Objectives: Protect the Berryessa Estates community, community members and the environment by reducing fire intensity, improving ecosystem health, and creating safer conditions for future wildfire response.
Thank you to our partners at Napa Land Trust and the Napa County Open Space District for their collaboration on this project.
