Tomorrow night, deep in the mountains of Papua New Guinea, after 5 months of teaching that started in Genesis 1:1, the gospel will be presented to the Amdu people for the first time in their known history. Please be praying for the missionary team. (A shot of their location)
First baptisms in history among the “D” people yesterday. Over 50 believers with clear professions of faith. May God continue to strengthen and grow that church.
This happened yesterday. The “D” people in Southeast Asia heard for the first time that there’s an all-powerful God who made the heavens and earth. Pray for them over the next 3 to 5 months as they continue to hear the story of this God and His great love for them.
Later today in Southeast Asia the ‘M’ people will hear of the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ for the first time in their history. Pray for clear skies as many will be hiking in from miles away, and the clear gospel being taught.
Imagine getting the books of Matthew, Genesis, and Acts (left to right) in your own language, for the first time in history. It happened for the “TM”people yesterday.
First baptisms….ever among the Q people!! Pray for that young church as they get their first copies of Romans and Ephesians, in their own language, soon.
Thank you for the prayers for Amdu people and team. By God’s grace, there are now members of that people group who are reconciled to God, who no longer have their sins counted against them.
Continue to pray for the “D” people in Southeast Asia. They just heard, for the first time, of the fall of the first man and woman. But there is hope, there is one coming someday...
Jakob of the “M” people understood and believed the gospel just a few months ago. He was too weak to walk to the small mountain stream, but insisted on being baptized, so they carried him.
He went to be with the Lord last night.
Yesterday, for the first time in history, the translation of Matthew Mark and Luke were completed for the church among the “W” people. To be able to read the story of Christmas for the first time in your own language…
As we celebrate the resurrection tomorrow, continue to pray for the “D” people. In nine days they will hear of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ...for the first time in their history.
In 2020 the “W” people heard the gospel for the first time. They began praying for their friends and family that hadn’t believed. This was yesterday. The believers now teaching their gathered family and friends this message that has changed their lives.
After 3 months of working through the OT narrative, today the “M” people heard the birth of the “road making man”. The one who will make a way for them to be made right with God. Eternal history in the making.
The gospel of John and the book of Acts we’re finally translated into the “S” people group’s language today. Thankful these young elders in training will have these scriptures in their language for the first time in their history.
When missionaries in training have all social media/internet taken away for 9 months, their reading ability improves dramatically. What do you feed them that will last the test of time? Thankful for @BannerofTruth and it’s partnership with @RadiusInt
The first readers among the “M” people. The fruit of 7 month literacy class. Lord willing, Genesis chap. 1-3 will be in their hands, for the first time ever, in 7 weeks.
What do you give to missionaries in training who will be leaving their homelands for 15 to 30 years? A good diet of @BannerofTruth Thankful for partners like these.
The team (I am not on it) has been on site for nearly 4 years, learning the language to full fluency, giving vital medical and educational help to the local community.
Some dear friends just finished the translation of the book of Mark (first NT book translated). Great to see it being used by the believers who just heard the gospel for the first time last month.
Very excited to say, we now have brothers and sisters from the “D” people in Southeast Asia! The team is busy doing interviews of professing believers. Pray for them. The heavy lifting of church-planting is upon them.
“I am no longer anxious about anything, as I realize the Lord is able to carry out His will, and His will is mine. It makes no matter where He places me, or how. That is rather for Him to consider and not for me."
― J. Hudson Taylor (1832-1905, missionary to China)
So encouraged by the “D” church in Southeast Asia. They heard the gospel for the first time six months ago. The testimony of the first believers has caused so many to come that they have had to put an addition on the teaching house.
Baptisms for the young “W” church. Years of worshiping spirits and living in fear now displaced by a confidence in the God of the Bible. Fruit in far away lands and foreign tongues.
Leaving tomorrow to visit the Yembiyembi church. These pictures are of a baptism and elder/elders in training meeting from the last trip. Pray the time would be profitable and fruitful.
On Tanna today where John Paton buried his wife and son. Took us an hour long hike, and the knowledge of local villagers, but we found their grave. Read the inscription, so good! @missionaryproj @banneroftruth
New readers among the “M people” with their copies of the book of Romans in their language. To read the scriptures in your own language, not just hear and tell stories, is to build for the long-term.
The “S” people of Southeast Asia getting copies of the Scriptures in their own language, for the very first time!
May the Word of Christ dwell in them richly.
In 26 days the “M” people will begin hearing about the God who made heaven and earth, for the first time. The workers there have been hiking to the farthest hamlets (1-3 hour hike) to personally invite them to come hear of this God who is unlike all others. Beautiful feet.
The Marwari people of Southeast Asia have no knowledge of Christ. Pray for the team of missionaries that are moving there (pic of likely house building location) next month, and starting the language learning process.
“I'm not afraid of failure; I'm afraid of succeeding at things that don't matter.”
― William Carey (1761-1834 died in Serampore India. He is known as the, "Father of modern missions")
One of the joys of the @BannerofTruth West Coast is seeing Radius graduates that are ready to leave for the field. The young men in this picture are soon departing for China, Afghanistan, North Africa and Southeast Asia. The God of the ages goes with them.
Just left the country of Papua New Guinea and my time with the Yembiyembi church. The pics are of circling to land, the elders and elders in training, and a night session with the leaders of the church
Just received pictures from the church in Yembiyembi. This one is outside of one of the elders house on Christmas Eve. The evidence of God is overwhelming, the church moves forward, God's ordinary grace is still sufficient.
A honor to return to my alma mater, San Diego Christian College, to deliver the commencement address and receive an honorary doctorate for work in linguistics, Bible translation, and Church Planting. 23 years ago…
"God is not looking for men of great faith, He is looking for common men to trust His great faithfulness"
---Hudson Taylor (1832-1905, pioneer missionary to China)
A privilege today to see the foundation stones John Paton laid for the church on Aniwa and to be reminded of the great sacrifice it took. 4 of the graves outside the church belong to his children. What perseverance through pain!
For those who are following this, the ‘M’ people heard the gospel clearly and many have made professions of faith. The team is busy following up. They have a long way to go before a strong NT church is planted, but by God’s grace, this language group now has Christians among it.
John Paton, before leaving Scotland for the New Hebrides, being reminded of the dangers.
"It will make no difference to me whether I am eaten by cannibals or by worms; and in the Great Day my resurrection body will arise as fair as yours in the likeness of our risen Redeemer."
First class on the first day of Radius training. 9 months of heavy work on Ecclesiology, Soteriology, theology of suffering, language acquisition, teamwork, and dozens of other classes.
Proud of the ‘M’ team. The papers in this picture hold the first 465 verses of the book of Mark, the first verses of the NT in their language…in their history.
First lesson for the inaugural class at Radius Theological Institute is underway. Blessed to have James Dolezal leading, and our brothers @LGoligher, @L_MMorales, @LaneTipton, Carl Trueman and Jonathan Master coming to invest in these future cross-cultural church planters.
“Ycau uwc uwc naine su, Kot”
(In the beginning, God). The first glimpse of the book of Genesis for the “H” people, in their own language. Pray for this team as they are just starting to teach this incredible book.
Today the ‘M’ people start learning how to read and write in their own language. The missionary team has diligently worked for 3 years to learn their language and develop the orthography.
A trip to help a team that is planting a church far away. Fortunately, a healthy church at “the ends of the earth”, still has the distinguishing marks of a healthy church throughout history.
The reading diet of missionaries in training is critical. @banneroftruth and @Ligonier produce some of the best resources that ground theology and cultivate perseverance in cross-cultural church planters. @RadiusInt is thankful to call them friends.
Radius Theological Institute, James Dolezal lecturing on God’s free will, man’s free will, evil, and God’s sovereignty. Missionaries being trained to think through Theology Proper and it’s implications. Praise God!
Wonderful time in Dubai meeting with the brothers here and talking right contextualization in missions and enjoying @uccdubai 50 year anniversary. May God continue to build his church in this region, and to the ends of the earth. @FolmarJohn@MarkDever
"Someone asked, will the heathen who have never heard the Gospel be saved? It is more a question with me whether we—who have the Gospel and fail to give it to those who have not—can be saved.” – Charles H Spurgeon
Radius Missiology Conference starting tomorrow. Always a pleasure to have our friends from @BannerofTruth here. Particularly happy about our book giveaways this year.
My wife and I teach a class at Radius called “How to raise normal MKs”. We’ve found these resources to be helpful? Any other recommendations for the 2–10 year old range?
Looking forward to the Radius Missiology Conference live and in person June 23-24. @JohnPiper and @MarkDever on the church to the nations will be a treat. Register at secure.radiusinternational.o…
Radius Conference 2022 is wrapped. Wonderful time, grateful for @RevKevDeYoung and @CCC_Matthews for their kind hospitality. Looking forward to next year with John MacArthur @costiwhinn and two other brothers that will be announced soon.
What a treat to be back in Yembiyembi Papua New Guinea for a conference with 17 other churches for the purpose of encouraging the elders of each church. We start the journey back to San Diego tomorrow morning.
It’s been a while since I’ve been this excited about a book about Missions. This book is a helpful corrective to the speed and pragmatism that is too common today.
Filming at Dohnaver Orphanage yesterday. The birdbath is where Amy Carmichael is buried, the woman is one of the last remaining who was rescued and named by Amy.
Wonderful time back in Yembiyembi checking on the church. The leadership team brought on one new elder and there were 32 baptisms. What a gift to see the church expanding in this far corner of the earth.
"Adoniram’s preoccupation was the Burmese Bible. He had come to feel that the making of a good translation more than important enough to justify giving a life to it. All missionary work, in fact, all knowledge of Christianity, rested on the Bible."--To The Golden Shore
In Melbourne Australia today at the cemetery where the missionary John G. Paton is buried. Tomorrow we head to the island of Tanna where he first served. @missionaryproj
Thankful for @JohnPiper and @desiringGod. Good resources that help young missionaries in training think, remember, and count the cost before they leave for the field.
Radius Days in progress. 200+ guests, 71 pastors, 63 potential students and others interested in @RadiusInt training. November will be the next opportunity.
Thankful to have the Missions and Evangelism class from @IRBS_1689 on campus this week for their class. What a great idea, doing a Seminary missions class down in Tijuana! Radius faculty supplementing and students from both programs getting to know each other.
What do you put into the DNA of aspiring missionaries who are in training to leave their homeland for 15-20 years? Martyn Lloyd-Jones, Jonathan Edwards, William Carey, JC Ryle, John Calvin.... So thankful for @BannerofTruth
I am more convinced than ever that getting the DNA of good books into aspiring missionaries will bear significant long-term fruit. Thankful for partners like @Ligonier and @ChrisLarson.
From prayers that ask that I may be sheltered from winds that beat on Thee, From fearing when I should aspire, From faltering when I should climb higher, From silken self, O Captain, free Thy soldier who would follow Thee.
--Amy Carmichael (1867-1951, missionary to India)
In England shooting a series on William Tyndale, Hudson Taylor, Amy Carmichael, and William Carey. The room at Little Sodbury Manor, where William Tyndale started the English translation of the Bible, was a highlight today.
Radius International‘s 10th graduating class. 63 cross-cultural church planters that, by God’s grace, will see churches planted where none exist. Now to my first #SBC. I’ve been told multiple times to “buckle up”.
Over a hundred guests and 51 new pastors here for Radius Days to investigate sending their members to the last language groups of the world with no church among them.
In SE Asia to discuss the launch of Radius Asia’s 2nd campus. Wonderful group of brothers with decades of experience CPing in this part of the world. May the King receive much glory from this school.
Radius graduation tomorrow. Praising God for another class, and the churches that stand behind them, moving out to plant churches among unreached language groups.
The Mal people are learning how to read and write for the first time in their own language. The missionary team starts translation of Genesis next month.
