This is why we created Flux 🚀 A Flux user created a PCB, solving a big problem for his business, all without any prior knowledge of how to design and manufacture a board. Gerald runs a vending machine business in the Philippines called Vendo King Manila. He's a software engineer and has been using Arduino, ESP8266, and compatible modules connected with jumper wires. This method has resulted in some unreliable boards that are difficult to troubleshoot. After just a few days in Flux, that all changed. “When I started to use Flux – even though I really don’t have an idea on designing PCB – I managed to design our PCB. No more jumpers wires and solved our problems in our production!” That's huge! Now he is planning to make more vending machine module kits to sell to other vending machine developers. He wants to help others “turn their business ideas to reality.” We created Flux for people like Gerald, so more people can solve more problems for themselves, their communities, and the world.

Our EE Collins Emasi Deployed an Arduino-based IoT node prototype in the field and quickly realized a huge oversight. Although the Arduino Uno R3 is a popular and versatile development board, it is tailored for development rather than efficiency, especially in terms of power efficiency, and this is due to a few key reasons: 🔋 Exhibits high idle power consumption, ranging from 20mA to 50mA. 🥖 Carries over voltage regulator inefficiencies in the LDOs for both 5V and 3.3V. 😴 Lacks advanced sleep modes crucial for maximizing battery life in low-power applications While linear regulators are simple to design, they operate with low efficiency due to resistive elements that dissipate excess energy as heat. Switching regulators, on the other hand, offer high efficiency. Linear regulators find their niche in applications with lower VIN/VOUT differentials. To overcome these challenges, he recommends exploring switching regulators. In the second image, you can find a document showcasing the topology of a buck converter and considerations for sizing components. He used the MP2162 Buck converter from @monolithicpower since @ULParts just released all their components into Flux, and now you don’t have to worry about part creation. Community showcase! 🌍 Riley Porter pushed Flux to the limit, and was by far the most active member of 2023. He helped us improve Flux along the way. This project is to limit the in-rush current when powering an EV motor controller. It uses an ACS70331 to measure current and an STM32 to control the motor It has a Variable Voltage 1A Buck Converter for power management, a contactor circuit for high-voltage control, a CAN bus interface for communication, and opto-isolators for noise protection.
