my bull case for Ethereum is that it’s the only protocol whose founder is still grinding 10+ years later name a crypto main character who has the same resilience as @VitalikButerin… they don’t exist Moves with honesty, in the intellectual arena, responds to criticism and adapts to changing environmental conditions. Doesn’t fall into classic crypto traps like greed/lust/saying stupid things on the timeline; optimizes for the good of the protocol over himself (perhaps to a detriment). I can’t imagine what it must have been like to spend your 20s founding the world’s most important crypto protocol but somehow Vitalik has surfed through it with grace. Knowing that it’s going to take another 10 years for crypto to proliferate globally, I think Ethereum will eventually win because I can’t imagine anyone beating Vitalik at this game.

I’m excited to share that I’ve joined the team at @HaunVentures, helping drive investments into world class crypto founders building the future. I met the team at Haun several months ago, and was immediately impressed by both their taste and their seriousness—every single person on the team is simply a weapon. Having been a builder in crypto and now an investor for almost 10 years now, it was honestly refreshing to find a group so focused on backing founders building great businesses, not just chasing hype. Crypto is now going mainstream. We’ve discussed crypto crossing the chasm for so many years that I started to think the other side was a mirage, and that we were simply stuck building in the lurch forever. Yet somehow… the institutions aren’t just “coming”, they’re actually here. We think the calibre of talent and bar for quality in crypto is rising faster than ever before: in every market, at every layer of the stack. Old metas are dying, but in their place we are developing new ways to create distributed economies that challenge legacy institutions and business models. Crypto is eating the world and I’m excited to be on the front lines investing in a generation of founders that understand how to leverage crypto primitives to create a massive impact on Earth. At Haun we make concentrated bets on founders we believe are building something huge. If you think that’s you, hit me up :)

Bought my ticket for ETHDenver, spiritually the experience is the perfect epitome of how I feel about Ethereum atm 1. Moongate doesn’t list base USDC as a payment option 2. Tried to convert my base USDC into mainnet ETH, tx failed 3. Then swapped all my base USDC back into base ETH 4. Bridged ETH onto mainnet (with a little extra for gas) 5. Swapped into USDC on mainnet, somehow got $20 less than the USD value I put in (???) 6. Swapped again for the remaining difference 7. Finally completed purchase with USDC on mainnet 8. I’m now left with about $20 of coins (across ETH and USDC) on mainnet, not even worth bridging back after fees I’m not trying to be an ass here but THE BUILDING IS ON FIRE AND EVERYONE KEEPS PRETENDING LIKE EVERYTHING IS FINE ITS NOT FINE THIS IS RIDICULOUS WHO IN THE WORLD WOULD DO THIS TO THEMSELVES BY CHOICE Type 3 fun forreal

Ethereum is a woke community and it’s time for a change. I spent years being shunned/out-clawed in the ecosystem by people who were happy to act one way in private, but said the right stuff publicly and got more and more entrenched. My fear of being pushed out entirely made me afraid to speak up and criticize the very real issues I see in this space. The same is true for many others, who have tried to debate/criticize in good faith and were ostracized for it. I’m grateful that now I care more about the health of Ethereum than being ostracized by various inner circles.
Replying to @alpeh_v
In woke culture, the people at the center proclaim what’s true, and the rest of the group is expected to accept it at face value with 0 debate. Even useful criticism will be deemed “problematic” and ignored, in order to defend narratives vs actually searching for truth. Woke culture also heavily favors external signalling, focusing on how people present themselves/what they say vs the outcomes of their actions. Woke culture is based on insular communities and constant purity tests, where anyone who doesn’t pass their tests is deemed part of the out-group and gets shunned. Woke culture claims to empower marginalized voices, but in reality is extremely good at consolidating power among the few gatekeepers who have clawed their way to the top. If you don’t see how the EF embodies these elements then you aren’t paying attention.

This is my last week at Boost VC, concluding one of the most thrilling 18 month stretches of my life. It’s been truly epic to witness this incredible moment of human expansion that’s underway in deep tech, driven by the cost of hardware and data acquisition going to zero. After meeting 800+ of the most exceptional startups in crypto/ AI/ VR/ bio/ robotics/ space/ oceans/ etc, I can tell you conclusively that the future is very very bright, although in some cases still a few years away from mainstream adoption. Nonetheless I feel increasingly allergic to pessimistic thinking: it’s impossible to feel hopeless about the future if you truly understand the magnitude of technological progress that we’re going through right now. This process will be messy as we re-tool the way we live and work and decouple these things from large institutions which used to administer them, but I feel strongly that the version of humanity which exists on the other side of this period will be far happier, healthier, and more prosperous than the version that we live in today. I want to share a sincere thank you to @AdamDraper @BraytonKey and the entire team at @BoostVC for giving me a front-row seat to witness this future, and for allowing me to help play a small role in shaping it. VC is a people business, and I can honestly say that the team at Boost are among the highest order of humans I’ve ever worked with: deeply kind at a human level, extremely brave in their investing style (their track record of betting on new domains 5+ years before the rest of the world speaks for itself), and rigorously truth seeking in their willingness to challenge assumptions and ask the questions no one else is thinking about. I would wager that working on the front lines at Boost VC is among the top 5 most interesting jobs on the planet, and I only expect this to accelerate as hard tech goes mainstream and AI takes over the world. If you think you have what it takes to join the investment team at Boost, I encourage you to shoot your shot and try to convince them why you’re the right fit to help shape the future. ⏻

Grateful to SEC Commissioner @HesterPeirce for spotlighting the need to defend Americans’ right to financial privacy and including @katie_haun's argument that our financial data is among the most sensitive personal information we produce. This is an issue too often overlooked in the policy debate. The Bank Secrecy Act’s outdated surveillance regime deserves scrutiny.

Hopefully a lot of other crypto founders can realize what Jesse has - you can simply muscle your way through being viewed as cringe by sticking to your guns and going all in on something you care about. This is because the cringe is caused by a lack of heroes journey which the audience can hook onto. No trials or tribulations to overcome. The road is viewed as too easy and the crowd rejects the champion. The cringe itself becomes the vessel for your return. On your knees, marred with sweat and dust, you regain the mandate of the crowd by showing you’re above no one. By embracing the cringe you acknowledge your undying commitment to what matters most. You’ve proven you’ll die for your cause, and will gladly burn up all reputation behind you. Only then does the crowd respect you - not as a white knight on golden steed, but as a foot soldier fighting for the God that breathes life into your spirit as surely as the sun sets every day.

it’s an unpopular take but it’s sadly pretty accurate… crypto natives are unhinged thinking it’s normal to work a total of 20h per wk and travel the world ~remotely~ while deserving mid 6 fig salaries with minimal vesting schedules
Having talked to a number of founders and CEOs recently, interesting that it’s universally agreed upon the worst people to hire are crypto natives, and the best being people from outside who built an active (healthy) interest and respect for the space. I think when you’re terminally online and “always trying to catch a bid” it really sets you into a short-term, purely selfish mindset that makes a bad fit for being an employee (at least anywhere great) or a founder. Especially in a hyper competitive field like crypto where skills and focus matter a lot.
