I just read The Hobbit to my 8-year-old daughter. She absolutely loved it, except for one thing: “It’s kind of weird it’s all boys.” So now she’s in revisionist mode.
This is the project I've been secretly working on the past five months. Wolverine: The Long Night. The 1st podcast (radio play) series put out by @Marvel . I wrote ten, half-hour episodes, with @RCArmitage as the title character. mashable.com/2017/12/04/wolv…
Ahem. I would like to call your attention to this @leinilyu cover for Predator Kills the Marvel Universe Issue #3.
You can freak out now.
Issue 1 drops in August. #marvelcomics#predator#weaponx
Not every #WGA writer lives in LA or NYC. Picketing from the woods of Minnesota. Solidarity in the north. The moose are beginning to look at me strangely. #wga#wgawest#wgastrike#wgastrong
Today Wolverine 1 launches. Maybe this sounds corny, but I’m being entirely sincere when I say this is more than a career highlight—it’s a childhood dream come true. I’m so damn grateful to @Marvel , my editors, the art team, my fellow X writers, & the fans. Thank you, bubs.
Is @VancityReynolds trolling me, reading Wolverine 21 on the shitter in the #Deadpool3 teaser? I am putting in my application now to be someone Wade and Wolverine blast and slash into a pile of dribbling hamburger.
Just signed another exclusive contract with Marvel. Grateful to be part of their spandex-clad, super-powered crew and excited about all the wild stories I’m going to share with you over the next few years.
A meeting from 3 years ago led to an opportunity this month. A failed feature pitch from 2 years ago recently found new life in a different medium. A script I couldn't sell led to me working in animation. Writing is a long hustle, I'm saying, and "No," sometimes means, "Not now."
A failed screenplay of mine turned into a comic. A rejected novel turned into several short stories. A TV show that died in development hell turned into a novel. Whenever you encounter wreckage, think about the turn. It's waiting up ahead, even if you can't see it yet.
I’m encountering more and more people who seem confused by the idea of a short fiction collection.
Them: So it’s not a novel?
Me: Nope. Short stories.
Them: Like chapters.
Me: Imagine if TikTok was a book.
I think everyone could use a little joy and distraction in their lives. So here is the 2-page spread of The Green Lagoon tiki bar (introduced in X-Force 9, @Marvel ). You can lose yourself in it for many happy minutes. @joshuacassara & @DeanWhiteColor absolutely killed it on art.
Reveal of the X-Force Hellfire Gala cover. Take special note of Beast. @joshuacassara and I are giving him a slow, physical transformation to accompany his emotional arc: he's bloating with hubris.
I'm someone who doesn't spend time looking back. I'm obsessively future-minded, maybe to a fault. But Wolverine Issue 50 releases today, so I should take a second. I've been writing Logan for Marvel since 2017 -- twenty podcast episodes and 130 issues to date...(continued)...
From Wolverine, Issue 1 (final order cutoff is Monday). Look who just showed up on Krakoa. @VikBogdanovic and @COLORnMATT are going to creep you the hell out with this story.
This series and this character mean so damn much to me that the permanent grimace etched on my face twitched briefly into a smile when I watched this trailer.
Wolverine. Predator. It's hard to believe it's never happened. But it's never happened because it was waiting for me. The universe has at last revealed my monstrous purpose. Every day I stare into the woods chuckling maniacally while thinking about it. marvel.com/articles/comics/p…
Six years ago today, I received my first comics assignment from Mark Doyle. Write a two-issue Batman story for DC Comics with @johnpaulleon. Detective Comics 35 and 36 came out later in the fall and changed my life and career.
If I started a cult, it would have 10 laws: Do good work. Don't be a dick. Help those in need. Love your kids. Read everything. Eat well. Never whine. Revel at nature's monuments. Race through the snowy woods shirtless. Drink whiskey by the fire while contemplating life & death.
Writers share good news. Here's a dose of the bad. I've had three major projects rejected recently, amounting to years of sweat. You know what I did? Poured a whiskey, said a hail mary and a fuck you, and got back to work. Because rejection's the standard, not the exception.
Does X-Force #17 -- out this week -- include a Kid Omega makeover montage because @joshuacassara and I are nerds deeply influenced by eighties movies? You betcha. @Marvel
Fascinated by the author who asked me to blurb their book -- after already securing four endorsements from folks far more fancy than I am -- and when I apologized and said I was too slammed to read at the moment, he... instantly blocked me on social media?
Here's some heavy metal (SNIKT!) for your ear. The trailer for "Wolverine: The Long Night." The coolest project I've ever been involved with. Spread the word. And be afraid, bub. Be very afraid. wolverinepodcast.com/
Got a Marvel announcement coming soon-ish that I am hyped to share. It will be a landmark series for me. One of my all-time favorite titles/characters.
Writing advice often focuses on craft, but it's also a business. & my business advice, for what it's worth, is to diversify your work in such a way that you're not beholden to any person, company or institution, so that you can walk away to preserve your integrity if need be.
THE NINTH METAL, by Benjamin Percy: Debris from a comet drops a fabulously valuable new metal on Northfall, MINN., turning it into a bloody, brawling boomtown. Great characters, fine writing, totally engrossing. Available June 1st.
If you could create a section of the bookstore—or a category on Netflix—just for your weirdly wired brain, what would it be? Mine is “Peril in the Snowy Wilderness.”
This is one of those "only in comics" moments. Check out this motion-capture splash page from Wolverine #35 (out now) -- with art by Juan Jose Ryp -- that follows X-Force as they battle their way through the guts of Beast's kaiju mobile headquarters. #marvelcomics#wolverine
JP Leon was a legendary artist & a kind, generous man. His gritty, noir style grounded his work in a medium that pushes the boundaries of belief. I was lucky as hell to work w/ him on my comics debut. His art hangs above my desk, an inspiring window I gaze through every day. RIP
Just got one of those too-good-to-be-true, childhood-dream-realized phone calls. I can’t tell you what, but I can tell you—with no exaggeration—that I’ve been waiting to write this comic series my whole life.
1) W/ the New 52 & Rebirth, I’ll have written 52 issues of Green Arrow. I’m lucky to have had such a long run and to have worked w/ such an incredible editorial & art team. We still have 2 more issues (38, 39) so stay tuned to see how this novelistic journey concludes.
Cover for Nightwing #48. Art by Mike Perkins. Tune in for Grayson, The Silencer, Professor Pyg, Flamingo, and many more — along with the greatest motorcycle race in the cosmos. Also: the series is going back to twice a month.
In the tradition of 'House of X' and 'Powers of X', @Benjamin_Percy, @joshuacassara, and @FedeVice_Art present Marvel Comics’ ‘X Lives of Wolverine’ and ‘X Deaths of Wolverine’ - Two interlocked tales about what happens to Wolverine when…His Pasts Meet His Future. #MarvelComics
With the podcast, with Wolverine and X-Force, with events (X Lives and Deaths of Wolverine; Weapons of Vengeance) and spinoffs (Hellverine; Predator vs Wolverine), the math tells me: for 8 years, 20 episodes, and a 130-ish issues, I've been writing #Wolverine.
We put every last ounce of blood & bourbon into this 10-issue event. X Lives of Wolverine / X Deaths of Wolverine is not only our attempt to tell the ultimate Logan story - it's the gateway for the next big paradigm shift for the mutants. Can't wait for January. #MarvelComics
When I first pitched X-Force, I discussed the dynamic between Wolverine and Beast as eventually rising toward the troubled Pacino/DeNiro divide in Heat. Readers are starting to see that play out now.
