We build the world's most advanced satellites for high orbits.

San Francisco, CA
It’s time for scale: Astranis adds $450 million in new capital to meet surging demand for advanced high-orbit spacecraft. Dedicated communications infrastructure is no longer optional. Demand is spiking from countries and governments that are moving away from aging, shared GEO communications satellites. They require dedicated satellites and networks they control, which is something that can only be provided from GEO. This capital enhances our ability to meet demand from our commercial customer base around the world, and importantly we are now spooling up to support multiple US Government programs of record simultaneously. We’ve now been selected as Prime for the initial phase of 3 separate Programs of Record— PTS-G, Resilient GPS, and RG-XX/Andromeda. And we’re just getting started. More in the comments.

The key to precision in manufacturing small, complex parts is the Matsuura MX-330. With a full 5-axis, setups are condensed for better accuracy, staying rigid and precise. This is American manufacturing. 🇺🇲

Flight software continually checks memory, compares sensor measurements, and scans for behavior that doesn’t make physical sense. From Network Services to Flight Controls, our software teams are solving these complex challenges on our satellites over 22,000 miles away. We’re hiring software engineers who want to take ownership and produce high-impact code at speed.

Before any precision features get cut, we face off a 170 lb aluminum block. Facing an aluminum block is the first step before any precision features get cut. It can't be skipped or rushed. Wide, shallow passes clear material fast while keeping cutting forces under control. Roughing efficiency up front is what keeps total machining time down on flight parts. This is American manufacturing. 🇺🇸

Roughing removes material. Finishing defines the part. Finishing is where tolerances get locked in and surface quality is earned. We break finishing into three categories: floors, walls, and 3D surfaces. Each with its own tooling strategy. Ball endmills go where geometry gets tight. Barrel mills and circle segment tools step in on 5-axis and 9-axis work, covering more surface area per pass while keeping finish quality high. The goal is always the same: hit the final tolerance, nail the finish spec, and leave no tool marks behind. This is American manufacturing. 🇺🇸

.@GoToImpulse COO and President @_Eric_Romo says @Astranis is leading a major shift in GEO—from massive billion-dollar satellites to smaller more agile spacecraft: "It used to be that in GEO, you had these monolithic mega spacecraft, four tons and up." "The trend you saw in LEO, where spacecraft used to be really expensive and then folks like @Planet Labs, and eventually Starlink really iterated on taking commercial components and making spacecraft smaller and kind of the shoebox satellite type thing." "That never happened in Geo until now."
BREAKING: Impulse Space Raises $500M Series D Reaching $1+ Billion in Total Funding to Build In-Space Mobility Infrastructure aka "Move Things in Space" Full interview w/ President & COO Eric Romo (@_Eric_Romo) (SpaceX Employee #13) Founder & CEO Tom Mueller (@lrocket) (SpaceX Employee #1): "We're building more than spacecraft: we're building the economic & technical engine that will power humanity's expansion into space. From Earth orbit to the Moon & beyond, the ability to move quickly, precisely, & affordably on orbit is the fundamental capability that will unlock a true space age."
