While I know that the majority of you follow me specifically for my food takes - I cannot, in good conscience, simply sit out of a political moment that will shape the remainder of our lives. The truth is that I have no desire to talk politics. I’d rather be talking about almost anything else. If this were John McCain or Mitt Romney running I could feel confident that while I disagreed with fiscal policy or the ideals on which to run the country, our country would remain in a place where we could debate, converse, and work together for the well being of the United States as a whole. I truly believe the core differences between Republicans and Democrats are not as great as some would like us to believe. We all want to have the means to support our families, see our country become a better place, and make it a place where our children and our children’s children can flourish. But I believe that Donald Trump and the MAGA side of the party have gone to a place where we cannot allow ourselves to follow. And I think deep down most Republicans don’t want to be tethered to someone who is so clearly unfit for office, even as the means to any political end. The truth is there are two absolute deal breakers for me. 1) Every American has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness - regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, etc… and 2) Climate change is real and something we have to address head on. These two basic simple ideals are two things I cannot compromise on. Love thy neighbor. Take care of our planet. These should not be controversial takes. We can disagree on many a thing, on these two things we cannot and should not. For this reason I not only enthusiastically endorse @KamalaHarris but I vehemently stand against the platform and the person of Donald Trump. The odds that I will change your mind are slim. I understand our differences are what make us unique. It’s also what makes us a wonderful and beautiful country. We won’t all see eye to eye. This doesn’t need to be a zero sum game. I think we can truly find a way to bridge these deep divides. Regardless of your political beliefs - please vote. Make your voice heard. It matters. Love you all. We live in two totally different stratospheres right now. We’re not even remotely close to one another as a humanity. There are two avatars for this - a newsmax host eating tacos celebrating deportations, and a pastor asking for love & empathy to help guide the way. These are the two sides. You’re on one of them. This isn’t even a commentary on right or wrong. Or which side you should be on. It’s a commentary on how I cannot fathom how we could be further apart from each other as a species. And I don’t have any idea how we get past it or come closer together. Loving others and having empathy for others is as much in my dna as my blue eyes or my love for my children. That’s not a “virtual signal” it’s just legitimately how I was raised. It’s not something I can compromise on. And I’m assuming any of you on the other side are unwilling to compromise as well. You’ve had clearly a massive different set of life experiences than I have that has changed your world view to make it entirely different from mine. But it is so hard to see us get to this point in time where division rules, compromise is not an option, and basic principles of loving thy neighbor and treating others the way that you’d want to be treated are not only no longer practiced but actually vilified. I see so much good in the people I interact with on a day to day basis. And I’m never giving up hope. But holy shit we’ve got to find a way to work towards a common good and come closer together or things are going to get so much worse before they get better. Would really love to be able to start believing in humanity again. Be good to each other. Stay kind. Lead with love. Help each other out. Try to stay positive. Love always wins.
