Former South Carolina beat writer, current freelancer, mostly @GDPSports and @AP. Covered a little bit of everything. Available for work. Be kind to others.
Quick note: Due to some circumstances with the shuffling in Rivals, today was my last game covering South Carolina. I'll always be grateful for the people I met, the experiences here and the last three years overall. Not sure what's next, but excited for it.
All love, Columbia.
There's a wedding happening in the corner of the end zone by where South Carolina is warming up.
No, really, a couple is getting married at the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl.

Here we go, the useless stat of the week absolutely nobody asked for, but I started keeping track of on Tuesday, the opening statements of all the SEC coaches by word count:
College GameDay notes, per release:
- Shane Beamer will join the desk
- Mayor Daniel Rickenmann will present Lee Corso a key to the city
- Darius Rucker will join for a performance
- Ryan McGee feature on the birth of Sandstorm
- As announced, Dawn Staley is the guest picker
Breezy on her message to Raven late in the game:
"I told her to keep her head up, because I didn't want any pictures of her crying, because she has been amazing to us. She's been amazing to this program."
Clayton White just walked by the door of the media room in the football building yelling "MERRY FLIPMAS, HO HO HO!"
So yes, vibes are good at South Carolina.

- MiLaysia Fulwiley is 6th woman of the year
- Joyce Edwards is 1st Team All-SEC

South Carolina just completed an undefeated fall/winter sports season against Clemson.
Wins in football, volleyball and both basketball games, plus two ties in soccer.
Demetrius Knight Jr. said playing in the bowl game is about his kids, that he wants to show them to finish what you start. Said he doesn't want them in the future not finishing their homework because dad opted out of a bowl game to prepare for the NFL Draft.
Dawn is here:
"I've got to give it up to Aliyah Boston today. She said something to Breezy during the timeout that really relaxed her and settled her down."
Wild but true stat:

Former Mississippi State center Madina Okot has not announced her transfer portal destination…but she’s in Columbia with Maryam Dauda and Adhel Tac right now per Dauda’s Instagram. Do what you want with that.
One more from tonight:
Shane Beamer has 27 wins now, one away from tying Steve Spurrier for the most ever by a South Carolina coach in their first four seasons.
Chance to tie it against FCS Wofford next week and then, well, ya know.
Beamer telling fans to be in the stands by 3:30 to make sure they're here for senior day ceremonies.
"Shut the tailgates down early. There will be plenty of opportunities to tailgate. This will be the last and only opportunity to recognize a really special group of seniors."

Dawn said she had one dicussion with Cardoso about the WNBA.
"There was no trying to get her to come back. We've been through this with a lot of our players. I want to walk them to the next level."
Said she is ready for the next level, and her best basketball is ahead of her.
Beamer said "program-changing" things will come in recruiting based off what he's heard from visitors about the environment.
Todd Ellis said it's the best noon game environment he's seen in 32 years calling South Carolina games.
For about an hour, Chloe Kitts was public enemy No. 1 in Durham.
Then she scored a career-high, just three days after game-clinching free throws at UNC.
On a trip where Dawn Staley's whole message was learning, Kitts looks like she's figuring it out.

Beamer says Robby Ashford told him he wanted to be a starting quarterback, but Ashford loves Columbia and wanted to stick around. Said they talked about him not entering the portal til after the bowl, but decided that wasn't the best for him.
I like the idea that a bunch of people are probably watching football for the first time in awhile or ever because of this (and that's fine, nobody likes gatekeepers!) and are being treated to the Chicago Bears attempting to play offense.
*WBB availability*
Dawn asked about Tessa’s status for tomorrow.
*turns around, yells at Tessa and asks her point blank*
“I’m playing.”
That answers that!
Raven Johnson also announces she is officially back.
Was teammates with Ta'Niya Latson at Westlake High School in Atlanta, so had to figure those two were teathered.

"People have played us like that since we had Aliyah Boston...They did a good job executing their game plan, and we did a poor job of shot selection. We'll be better. We've just got to take better shots."
Beamer starting early talking about next Saturday and getting fans to come out, even though it's a non-SEC game.
"Honor these seniors the way they deserve to be honored."

Dawn Staley said she hasn't talked to Raven Johnson or Sakima Walker about returning for their possible 5th years. Said she hopes they'll make a "timely decision" so they know what they need in the portal. Added "there's room for both of them to return" regardless though.
Gamecocks are here.
Starts by asking the writers in the room if it’s “lying down” or “laying down” for a tweet which was apparently a hot topic of debate in the locker room today.
And we’re off.
Beamer asked about the CFP and what his argument would be:
"I think there's plenty of time for that, but right now our focus needs to be on Wofford and Clemson after that. If we don't take care of business these next two weeks, it doesn't matter what I say."

"it was hearbteaking. We couldn't have done it without them. We're a team, we're a family."
