Excited to share that I'm joining @aztecnetwork 🥳 Privacy is a fundamental human right that is disappearing in today's world of mass surveillance, and decentralization on its own doesn't opt you out. We need a decentralized, permissionless, and *private* network, and Aztec has the team to do it. I'll be sharing more content here about programmable privacy, zk L2s, and how devs can participate. Let's build!

One year at Aztec 🥳 Some lessons from inside 1. This team is the real deal: Aztec has attracted many of the top 100x engineers, cryptographers, relationship builders, and marketers 😜 in the industry. But above that, from @Zac_Aztec @jaosef and @arnaudschenk down, the people here are relentlessly curious, passionate, and dedicated to bringing something new to life without cutting corners. 2. Slow is fast: Aztec has sometimes taken flack for taking a long time to build, but the reality is that this team is moving at lightspeed behind the scenes. We could have decided to offer fully programmable, end-to-end privacy with a centralized sequencer/council...but we didn't. Doing this in a decentralized way is insanely ambitious. Inventing the cryptography to enable <10 second client side proofs is insanely ambitious. And when mainnet drops it's going to be one of a kind. 3. Marketing is not an add-on: @clairekart has built a powerful marketing machine that is deeply embedded across departments. We're a group of senior marketers that are not afraid to get our hands dirty, with deep ownership of our lanes. This is the most streamlined marketing org I've been part of. We're about to turn it up to 11, and you better be wearing your earplugs. 4. People don't understand privacy: those who get it, get it - privacy is necessary to make this industry a success. But many people don't care about privacy itself. Case in point: most people allow Instagram to record them 24/7 on their phone or are fine with twitter seeing all their DMs, or their bank seeing and controlling all their finances. But when people realize that a world is possible where you can have control over your identity, assets, messages, etc and you can do this privately, for may they will quickly get Aztec pilled 😁 5. We're building an exceptionally technical product marketing team: Product marketing is all about translating our products to users, understanding who cares about our products (and why), and engaging these people. Our tech is our magic sauce, so both @jschxyz and I need a deep understanding. This is definitely pushing the boundaries of what marketers need to know technically, but we're leaning into it. 6. Vibe coding is here: Marketers have often been dependent on eng teams or contractors to build things. Not anymore. We're still figuring out how vibe coding on the marketing side fits into the overall org - and there are certainly some growing pains, but many experiments are in the pipeline that we're excited to share with all of you. 6. gAztec. This community is lit. Shoutout to @realRoberto38 for being our fearless community leader.

You would be shocked by how many very successful people in this industry started out as community managers. I've always been aware of this bc my first role in 2017 was doing community. People who enter through community roles are great because they tend to: - hustle *really* hard - are extremely good at riding out the ups and downs - have a deep connection to what's actually happening on the ground so they know the market *really* well - love meeting all sorts of people, and in this industry you never know who will be a great connection - are extreme believers in what they are doing and trustworthy af - are extremely ambitious and have an insatiable appetite for learning Mostly, they tend to be some of the only down to earth people in this industry. And every moon mission needs someone on Earth in the control center.

Most of the web runs on programmable privacy - you choose what to make private and what to keep public. There's just one little caveat...the apps you use can see everything: - all your emails - all your dms - all your bank info - all your identity detailsd - all your investments - all your pictures - all your contacts - all your interactions - all your posts Now imagine apps where: - you control who sees your emails - you control who sees your dms - you control who sees your bank info - you control who sees your identity details - you control who sees your investments - you control who sees your pictures - you control who seesyour contacts - you control who sees your interactions - you control who sees your posts With no backdoors. The fact that we're close to this as an industry should make you incredibly bullish.

We don’t talk about Aztec’s early builders enough. I’m constantly blown away by conversations with these people. All you need is ~20 super cracked devs to build the core lego blocks and killer apps for an ecosystem to get ready to fly, just look at early Ethereum. Aztec has these cracked devs, building libraries, bridges, apps, wallets, explorers, and pushing forward core protocol development. These are people that are all in because they realize this is the shot our industry has to ship something truly different and world changing. Im committed to highlighting more of these cracked devs in the months ahead - please shoutout or tag anyone you think deserves to be amplified more.
Had 1-on-1 chats with some Aztec builders recently, and my bullishness keeps growing. This is shaping up to be a breakthrough on par with ETH's early days when smart contracts first appeared. Programmable privacy isn't priced in at all.

Vibe coding is a requirement for every role I hire. 3 things every product marketer should be using Claude Code for 👇 1. Vibe code w your products - you're not expected to be an engineer, but you're expected to build with our products. This is the fastest way to understand their value & limitations, and write about features. It's also the best way to align with builders in the ecosystem and speak their language. 2. Vibe code landing sites - marketers love landing pages, but HubSpot splash pages are just not going to cut it anymore. You should be creating mini sites and apps that give a targeted experience to users. Again, you don't need to be a fullstack dev, but you have one at your fingertips. 3. Vibe code funnel engagement - marketing is going to change dramatically over the coming years. Product marketers should be building mini experiments on how you can engage users and move them through a funnel. What are the sticking points for your users? Can you quickly build them something to address their concerns? You should be. We'll be seeing more and more vibe marketers as our tools get better - if you're not using them, you're leaving a lot on the table.

Private payments are great, and have been possible for many years. This team has been grinding and working magic behind the scenes. Using passports and IDs to prove humanity without ever sharing any of your actual details is very hard to get right, and there are infinite moving targets. One of the biggest challenges is sourcing certificate info for different countries - and to make it even harder, it turns out countries like to change how they encrypt passport chips, so different passport years need different solutions. @ZKPassport has made impressive strides, and optimized the proof generation so even extremely old phones can participate. Now over 20k people have passed verification and joined the Aztec testnet validator set. The future is bright! Check out the map of supported countries.
We’ve released the ZKPassport Coverage Map, an interactive view of supported countries and ID certificates. Newly added certificates are highlighted in purple, making updates easy to spot. Explore it here: registry.zkpassport.id/map

GM fellow humans and bots 🤖 I’m ecstatic to share that I’ve joined @aztecnetwork as Global Community Lead! Privacy shouldn’t be optional in Web3 - it should be the default. Aztec is making that vision a reality with programmable privacy, and I couldn’t be more proud to support this mission and grow this community. My own journey started in 2020, working a dead-end tech sales job during lockdowns, feeling unfulfilled. Crypto felt like freedom. ZK felt like the final boss. I got my first break at @MinaProtocol and never looked back - helping them go through TGE was life-changing. Then came Phoenix Marketing - an absolute bootcamp. ⚡️3 TGEs ⚡️4 communities built from scratch ⚡️Countless pivots It made me scrappy, nimble, and built a fire that doesn’t go out. But I always wanted to go back in-house. To build with a team I chose - and believe in. That’s why I’m here. The Aztec team is locked in. The mission is clear: privacy, programmable and powerful. I’ll give this community everything I’ve got. Come say hi tomorrow in Discord - we’ve got a Town Hall this Thursday at 4 PM CET 📷 discord.gg/aztec And if you’ve got ideas on how we can make the server better - my DMs are open. gAztec

Dropping a quick tutorial for operators to join the validator set. TLDR: - Aztec is fully decentralized, operators should be able to join in a permissionless way - For testnets, there is nothing at stake for bad actors to lose - So, we are using ZKPassport to verify you are a passport or ID holder to join the set, allowing anyone to join without sharing personal info - Once you pass ZKPassport, you can register for the validator queue, currently 1/epoch (75/day) but this will increase substantially to speed up the queue - This rate allows good actors in the set to slash any incoming malicious or inactive actors - Once registered, you can view your place in line and track all your node performance on the Dashtec leaderboard - Don't forget to claim your Explorer role once you register to unlock a dedicated section of the Aztec discord
How do I join the Adversarial Aztec testnet? Glad you asked, ser: 1. Join the validator set using @ZKPassport 2. Wait in line (yes there's a queue) 3. Claim the Explorer role in Discord 4. Try not to get slashed, lol @0xdavid made you a demo

Aztec will be the most robust, scalable, and developer friendly place to build all of the following: 1) private money 2) private identity 3) private voting 4) private messaging And even better, let's make it all programmable -> easily write smart contracts that have both private and public aspects so your users can choose what they want to keep public, what they want to keep private. Shipping with urgency.
"On a civilizational level, there's quite alot of urgency in us figuring out privacy." @VitalikButerin urges builders at ETHGlobal to focus on 4 key categories of privacy apps to help solve for this: 1) private money 2) private identity 3) private voting 4) private messaging

As "prince of zk" (as some people refer to me), I've spent a lot of time thinking and reading about privacy. I can tell you, nobody has a network designed like Aztec, and it's not even close.
Privacy: Who needs it and who doesn't? As "godfather of ZK" (as some people referred to me) I've spent a lot of time thinking, reading, learning, arguing about privacy on blockchain. Here's what I think about who needs it and who doesn't. Who *doesn't* need it? If: Blockchain is just an investment/speculation/side activity place for you + The scale at which you operate is small (<$100K) + You live in a free society If that's 👆 you, then you don't need privacy. Why? 1. In crypto, you're considered a small fish (< $100K). No one will try to single you out and go after you specifically, when bigger whales are out there. 2. If this is just a side activity for you, the implications on your social and financial standing in the world are what YOU choose to share (instead of what can be learned about you from looking at the blockchain). And, as mentioned, you're small fish (see 1). 3. If you live in a free society, you won't be easily harassed by authorities or thugs (unless you talk a lot about it, or associate with the wrong folks, which you shouldn't be doing in the first place, and privacy won't save you if you do). Now... Who *does* need privacy? If any of the following applies to you, you need privacy: 1. You're a business and want to put a lot of your activity onchain: Salaries, purchases, managing your treasury. You need privacy *by law*, and to protect your business interests. 2. You're a whale. Too many folks know too much about you, and that's unhealthy and dangerous. You're probably already mixing and shielding via centralized entities like CEXes, but you still need privacy. 3. You live in an unfree society, where being connected to certain transactions can cost you your freedom, and life. If that's 👆 you, then you need privacy. And for that, good thing we have STARKs.

If you understand the significance of this chart, you will go far. Or at the very least you'll get Aztec pilled.

Bitcoin gave us digital money. Ethereum gave us the world computer. Aztec was developed to usher in the final missing piece: a Private World Computer. Fully decentralized, general-purpose, and permissionless, with optional privacy at every level.
