On June 29, 2026, at 1:30 PM, San Francisco firefighters responded to five separate 911 calls reporting a structure fire at the intersection of California and Broderick Streets. Fire crews arrived on the scene in less than three minutes from the initial dispatch and confirmed smoke emanating from a traditional church building. Despite our efforts to execute an aggressive interior fire attack, the fire escalated to a third alarm, requiring the presence of over 100 firefighters. We faced several challenges, including the building's age, open spaces, and voids typical of structures from that era, as well as the fact that it was partially under construction and affected by high winds. Firefighters utilized advanced technologies such as drone-mounted thermal imaging to assist in directing our interior fire attack. However, as conditions worsened, we shifted from an interior attack to a transitional fire attack and ultimately to a defensive fire operation. By 9:10 PM, the fire was declared under control, with no reported injuries or displacement of residents. The fire is currently under investigation by the San Francisco Fire Investigation Task Force, which is standard procedure for incidents of this magnitude. Several individuals were temporarily affected by a shelter-in-place order and isolated evacuations of homes, all of which have since been lifted. Those impacted by the incident received support and resources from the American Red Cross and the San Francisco Human Services Agency.

Firefighters simultaneously conducted an aggressive interior offensive fire attack, effectively isolating the fire to the building of origin. The rescued individual and dogs were evaluated by San Francisco Fire Department paramedics and released on scene. As of the time of rhis post no dispalced had been identifed. This fire is currently under investigation.

Firefighters had a quick response, established an aggressive interior offensive fire attack, and held this rapidly moving fire to one structure. At this time we have no displaced residents, which is subject to change. This fire is under investigation.

UPDATE 1-ALARM FIRE 3600 BLOCK 17TH STREET The San Francisco Fire Department update on a one-alarm structure fire in the 3600 block of 17th Street in the Mission District. Firefighters have successfully rescued one adult and two dogs. Firefighters are currently aggressively making an offensive interior fire attack and making l progress in extinguishing the fire at a three-story, multi-family residential home. The rescued adult and dogs will be okay. This remains an active incident, so please avoid the area.

1-ALARM FIRE WITH RESCUES The San Francisco Fire Department is on scene a one-alarm structure fire at a three -story multifamily dwelling located in the 3600 block of 17th Street in San Francisco's Mission District. Firefighters have successfully rescued an adult and two dogs, who are currently being attended to by paramedics. Please avoid the area, as this is an evolving incident.

The San Francisco Fire Department has declared that the third-alarm structure fire at Broderick and California is contained. We will transition to firewatch, meaning fire crews will remain on scene throughout the night to ensure there are no flare-ups or rekindles. All evacuations and shelter-in-place orders have been lifted, but the area remains active. Public information officers from the San Francisco Fire Department will be on-site from 6:30 to 8:00 tomorrow for any necessary updates. Thankfully, this fire resulted in no injuries or permanent displacements, and the cause is currently under investigation.

UPDATE THREE ALARM FIRE CALIFORNIA AT BRODERICK The San Francisco Fire Department is currently working to extinguish a fire in the lower Pacific Heights district, specifically at the intersection of Broderick and California streets. We have moved to a transitional fire attack strategy, allowing firefighters to enter a portion of the building after confirming its structural integrity. They have successfully extinguished some fires in difficult-to-reach locations that were challenging to tackle defensively. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries, and no one has been displaced. Those temporarily affected by the fire are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. We will continue to provide updates as we work towards completely extinguishing the fire.

UPDATE THREE ALARM FIRE BRODERICK AT CALIFORNIA - SHELTER IN PLACE ORDER REMOVED - EVACUATION OF THE IDENTIFIED TWO STRUCTURES REMAINS ACTIVE - AVOID THE AREA REMAINS ACTIVE The San Francisco Fire Department is currently working to extinguish a three-alarm structure fire at the intersection of California and Broderick. The fire involves a large Seventh-day Adventist church that is undergoing construction. It is not yet known if the construction is a contributing factor to the fire. Good progress has been made, and most of the active fire has been extinguished. We are lifting all shelter-in-place orders; however, evacuations for the two identified homes remain in effect. This fire remains an active three-alarm structure fire. The American Red Cross is en route to provide temporary assistance to those affected.

UPDATE - THREE ALARM FIRE The San Francisco Fire Department is currently managing a three-alarm structure fire, deploying over 100 firefighters along with various fire apparatus at the scene. We have shifted from an offensive attack to a transitional approach and are now executing a defensive fire attack. This strategy involves utilizing large water hoses from aerial ladder trucks as well as from the ground to extinguish the flames. At this time, there are no reported injuries related to this fire. We still have a shelter-in-place order for the immediate area, which remains unchanged. We’re asking the public to consider avoiding the use of recreational drones in this area (IF YOU FLY WE CAN'T) and asking media helicopters to stay above a 1000-foot ceiling.
