Trump’s rolling back gun violence protections will cause needless bloodshed & cost lives. I’ll fight his retreat on regulations. Republicans failing to join us are complicit. nytimes.com/2026/07/05/us/po…
In Guilford, reading the Declaration of Independence marked a 250th celebration, followed by music & food. A great time, before a classic New England summer rainstorm.
Wethersfield celebrated 250 years of independence & this historic town’s enduring contribution with a community party—music, games, food, bubbles, tattoos (removable) & lots of exuberant spirit (sustained).

The Boom Box July 4th Parade in Willimantic was one of the best ever—rousing, rocking spirit & energy. Despite the heat, crowds were amazing—in numbers & enthusiasm. Thank you Wayne Norman of WILI!
On America’s 250th, I remember Justice Thurgood Marshall’s Bicentennial reminder that the Constitution is not “fixed in meaning” but rather “a living document.” Honoring our Founders, we should honor also all who have expanded liberty, justice & equality. Our work continues.
Happy Fourth of July! On America’s 250th Birthday we reflect on the promise of our great nation, our hard-won independence & our common commitment to upholding democratic values.
Celebrating America’s 250th Birthday with IRIS, thanking this magnificent organization for its profoundly important work welcoming & resettling immigrants & refugees.
Met Seyo & his two sons at his restaurant with Rep. Larson. A great family & successful business owner. While Seyo is grateful for our help in getting him home, ICE should never have disrupted this family’s lives just to meet some arbitrary quota. It is cruel & heartless.
Seyo’s release is a magnificent start to the July 4th celebration. So proud of all the community who rallied around Seyo as Congressman Larson & I fought for his release. Our letters, protests, & work behind the scenes vindicated his cause.
Seyo's son, Emir, tells me he’s “doing great”. As well, he deserves to be. His courage & faith are a lesson to all of us on this 250th national birthday. I look forward to welcoming him home.
ICE seizing & detaining him was cruel & unconscionable. He was never a flight risk, or a danger to anyone. I’ll support his efforts to gain permanent legal status & more. Welcome home Seyo!
The O’Neill is a treasure—a cultural gem that drives economic as well as artistic development. But its 19th century buildings need upgrades. I’m proud to stand with dedicated staff, trustees & others to announce a $1.6 million federal grant.
In June 2020, a driver tragically struck & killed 10-year-old Tristan as he was crossing the street after buying a popsicle from an ice cream truck. We can save lives by passing Tristan’s law—making sure ice cream trucks have warning signals, stop signs & other safety precautions.
Sadistic slaughter is Putin’s specialty. Homes, hospitals, schools, churches & shelters—not military facilities—are his favorite targets. Ukrainians need air defense aid—Patriot system interceptors & more. Simple humanity demands we help.

Putin’s murderous meat grinder stalls on the ground—so his desperation drives an intensifying reign of terror from the skies. I witnessed the heartbreaking destruction on my recent 10th trip.
But Ukraine is increasingly lethal in hitting his military facilities. This possible turning point cries out for heightened support—sanctions on Russian oil sales & military aid.
