Ahead of America’s 250th, I reflected on how proud I am to be a naturalized citizen.
We must all remember the contributions that generations have made to this country. Immigrants make our communities so much stronger.

On July 4th, I spoke at a naturalization for 252 new Americans.
As an immigrant myself, it was an honor to welcome these new citizens. And as a Member of Congress, I will continue to fight for immigrants to have the dignity and rights they deserve.

Last week, I introduced the Fresh Bucks for Fresh Produce Act – legislation modeled after Seattle’s Fresh Bucks program.
As Trump and Republicans have made food prices skyrocket, it is more important than ever that we help families keep fresh food on the table.

Trump is crashing out about the SAVE Act and holding bipartisan housing legislation hostage.
Why? Because the only way Republicans will win upcoming elections is if they take away the right to vote from millions of Americans.
Trump and Republicans poured $210 billion into ICE and CBP to terrorize our communities, kill U.S. citizens in our streets, and detain hundreds of thousands of people in horrific conditions. All while doing nothing to lower costs.
This must end.
It was incredibly powerful to speak at a naturalization ceremony today in Seattle as we celebration our nation’s birthday.
I was in their shoes 26 years ago. I know how meaningful it is to become a US citizen — and it is an honor to welcome them today with open arms.
Today, I had the honor of speaking before 252 of the newest American citizens at their naturalization ceremony in Seattle as we celebrate the Fourth of July.
Their unique perspectives, cultures, and stories are a gift to this nation.
I came to this country from India at 16 with nothing in my pockets. Now, I am proud to be a U.S. citizen and Member of Congress.
This 4th of July, we celebrate America – a country that has always been and will always be a land of immigrants.

ALT Rep. Jayapal speaking in front of an American flag. A headline from The New York Times is above that reads: "The Country I Love" by Pramila Jayapal.
In reflection on America’s 250th year, I wrote about what the American Dream has meant to me as an immigrant, and how that dream is out of reach for too many today.

Happy Fourth of July to everyone in Seattle and across the country!
As we mark 250 years of this country and recognize the progress and struggle of our past, let’s all recommit to continuing the fight for freedom, democracy, and justice for all.

On America’s 250th anniversary, I’m thinking so much about what America means to me and so many other immigrants.
Today, we must commit to protecting the promise of America.
One year ago, Trump and Republicans passed the Big Bad Betrayal Bill.
Millions have lost health care and food assistance, utility costs have skyrocketed, and thousands of hospitals and nursing homes have shuttered.
The American people deserve better.
The New York Times just named the Seattle Dog the best hot dog in the country 🌭
Whether you’re a Seattleite or visiting our beautiful city for the World Cup, make sure to grab a Seattle Dog this 4th of July weekend!

RFK Jr.’s HHS is terminating millions in teen pregnancy prevention grants – including a $5 million grant that was awarded to the King County Department of Public Health.
This is a completely backwards decision that will only put more teens at risk. Funding must be reinstated. news.bloomberglaw.com/health…
This 250th anniversary of America is an opportunity to celebrate the promise of this great nation, something we can all continue to fight for — regardless of who’s in the White House.
Extreme right-wingers will continue to use birthright citizenship as a litmus test.
They want to dismantle the American project so people like me can’t come to America, serve in Congress or even live and work in this country.
We must continue to fight this.
I actually lived through Jan 6, Gov. Polis. Acting like it didn't happen and that those who were responsible don't need to be held accountable for an insurrection makes it that much more likely it will happen again and does real damage to our country. Firing people who oppose you is also a page out of Trump's playbook.
