Dear Comdex Community, After careful consideration and thorough analysis, we have made the difficult decision that the Comdex team will no longer be able to support the development and maintenance of the Comdex chain after 31 October 2025. This includes the discontinuation of relayer infrastructure and active technical upkeep from our side. Our Vision and Technological Milestones We began building Comdex in 2019 with an ambitious mission: to bring the multi-trillion-dollar commodities trade finance industry on-chain. We believed that one of the most meaningful applications of blockchain was enabling real-world asset supply chains and financing to exist on-chain. To realize this, we took an early and calculated bet on Cosmos, launching Comdex as its own sovereign Cosmos-SDK app chain. In 2020, we launched Comdex’s enterprise trade platform and onboarded institutional commodities traders from across Southeast Asia, successfully tokenizing ~$160M worth of commodities on-chain. That same year, we partnered with Western Union to build a proof-of-concept for a fiat-backed stablecoin with on-chain proof-of-reserves. We were also the first team to execute a non-standard IBC transaction across the Cosmos ecosystem. Faced with strong macro headwinds amid a global pandemic, we had to pause development on our enterprise solution. New regulations introduced that year imposed licensing requirements that would have delayed our progress by months. At the same time, DeFi was gaining momentum, and we saw an opportunity to bring interchain DeFi to Cosmos. In 2021, we launched Comdex as a sovereign chain and subsequently released Harbor Protocol, Commodo, and cSwap DEX. Together, these protocols were designed to form the foundational money-market layer for interchain DeFi in Cosmos. In 2024, Comdex became one of the earliest chains to join the Atom Economic Zone by integrating with Interchain Security as a consumer chain, further reinforcing our commitment to Cosmos and to shared security and scalability. As builders, we’re deeply proud of these milestones. They reflect our unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible and contributing meaningfully to the broader ecosystem. Challenges We Faced Despite our technical progress, we struggled to gain and retain consistent traction and usership across our apps. Much of Comdex’s development took place in the depths of a bear market, which speaks to the team's resilience and determination. However, we faced both internal and external challenges that ultimately prevented us from achieving product-market fit. In late 2023, we witnessed renewed market interest in RWA use cases, driven by improving regulatory clarity. This gave us the conviction to return to our original mission of bringing trade finance on-chain. Yet, despite having a fully functional financing platform, we couldn’t generate sufficient interest from institutional borrowers or capital allocators. The platform faced a cold-start problem, and we continued to operate with limited resources. Compounding these challenges, the Cosmos ecosystem was steadily losing liquidity to more speculative ecosystems, further straining our ability to sustain growth. The Wind-Down Process As part of our wind-down process, we will continue to keep the Comdex chain live and operational through the end of October 2025. After this date, the team will no longer support the development or maintenance of relayers for the Comdex chain. Users who wish to unstake their tokens may do so at explorer.comdex.one, and those wishing to bridge out any remaining funds may also do so before support ends. If you encounter any issues during this period, please reach out. We will do our best to provide support while operations remain active. Looking Ahead While the Comdex team will no longer maintain the chain, we continue to believe in the core thesis that brought us here: that bringing global supply chains on-chain is one of the most impactful applications of blockchain technology. We’re confident that this vision will be realized, with many highly capable teams still working toward the same goal. As individuals, we remain committed to the broader mission that crypto stands for, and will continue contributing to the ecosystem in new ways.
