Mark Carney’s announced today that he is keeping the Liberal shipping ban on Canadian oil, while American tankers are free to ship in the same waters. That is a costly and nonsensical decision. Conservatives will keep fighting the shipping ban to get our energy to Asia and get paycheques in our pockets.

Today's announcement does nothing to get more power plants built or increase electricity production. It’s the typical Carney illusion. A grand press conference, but no real results. Consider: •In 2024, Liberals made history as the first government ever to preside over a Canadian electricity shortfall and had to import from the U.S. just to keep the lights on. • After a decade of Liberals, Canadians are paying 35% more for electricity. •Transmission lines without increasing electricity production is like building a pipeline without increasing oil production to fill it. •The rising cost and reduced production of electricity under the Liberals results from the industrial carbon tax on natural gas power plants (a tax Carney is raising) and anti-development law Bill C-69 that slows permits for electricity generation and transmission lines. •Carney specifically mentioned keeping these decade-long, costly Liberal policies, yet he repeats promises on affordability that he claims will be fulfilled 25 years from now. •That’s why the Conservative plan will: 1Eliminate the industrial carbon tax on electricity production and everything else. 2Scrap Bill C-69 to speed up approvals of power plants. 3Let provinces safely approve projects without federal interference or red tape.
