Today, I have officially been sober for 14 years
On May 5, 2010, I decided to never drink again
What's interesting is what happens to you mentally once you have made an unwavering decision that has been battle tested over a significant amount of time in any environment:
Any thought or temptation to drink again is countered by the reminder that you would have to start that clock all over again if you ever slipped up, kind of like breaking a 5,114 day @duolingo streak
That gentle, mental counter then reminds you about WHY YOU MADE THE DECISION in the first place and that why gives you a feeling of empowerment that is indescribable
