Not just inspired it - she actually worked on it. I even said it in the interview, but people focus on ‘inspired’ because the idea of the ‘muse’ is so romantic and pervasive.

In addition, women who help their partners with their album, being a sounding board and often their only emotional support during the process, almost invariably go uncredited, while majority male producers come in and make a tiny change to a track and they’re Mr. golden balls.
Oh and FYI, the woman spreading these lies about my girlfriend has started a Patreon so that you have to pay her to hear them. Literally profiting off exploiting and gaslighting a young woman of colour with a chronic illness. Cool. 👏🏼
Shout out to all the partners who selflessly placated a musician during a very self absorbed process like creating an album, who got the title ‘muse’ afterwards which basically amounts to being an object of affection while the musician exercises their ‘genius’.
If we want quality music somebody is gonna have to pay for it. Streaming services don’t pay properly, labels want a bigger cut than ever and just sit and wait for you to go viral, TikTok doesn’t pay properly, and touring is getting prohibitively expensive for most artists.

To @jameelajamil I love you and you are the reason this album exists, but now everyone else has it, so I’ll see you at home in 30 mins and we can talk shit about everyone.
Can I retweet this more than once?
Restricting rights to abortions is the first tactic of any fascist (see Hitler’s rise to power). A woman’s ability to realize their life’s potential is seen as a luxury by many, but it should be seen as a basic right as it is for men.
I’m touched by the response to this record and I wanted to say thankyou to everyone for giving me the blessing to do something different. Love to you all ❤️
Music executives tell Billboard that they are worried and depressed as the industry struggles to find big artist breakthroughs, noting Olivia Rodrigo and Ice Spice as the last recently successful ones.
“Nobody knows how to break music right now… Each person I talk to in the industry is more depressed [about this] than the person I talked to before them”
And by the way, since it’s cheaper to produce fast, synthetic music to drop on streaming every week to capitalize on the strengths of the model, watch how the model is preparing you for AI generated music that pays musicians nothing at all.
The way Amy Cooper suddenly raised her pitch and became shrill on the phone to the police, to pretend the innocent black man was in the process of attacking her.. made me feel utterly sick. Losing her job and dog is nothing compared to what she would have had happen to him.
So happy to finally tell you my 5th studio album, Friends That Break Your Heart, is out September 10th featuring Say What You Will, out now.

So @rosaliavt went out tonight at @billboard women in music awards and did the most beautiful, virtuosic performance, acapella, and I couldn’t actually believe what I was seeing. Backed only by claps and very occasional harmonies? 😳 one of the best things I’ve ever seen
Ok looks like we’re in this for the long haul so I’m jumping in... gotta play for you guys somehow.
12pm PST tomorrow on IG live
That’s 8pm GMT
See you then!

Something I keep seeing is ‘if you’re lucky enough to go viral, just use the exposure to generate income some other way’. Musicians should be able to generate income via their music.
Do you want good music or do you want what you paid for?
Stop this ‘not all white people’, ‘not all cops’ fucking nonsense please. If we don’t examine the actions of all cops and all White people we can’t move forwards
It’s worth noting this is just an example I used in a post talking about the wider effect of TikTok on music. Just seeing this part makes it seem navel gazing but I’m speaking on a thing that’s affecting artists all over the world.
James Blake on the impact of TikTok on the music industry…
“Remember when my Godspeed cover went viral? Neither me nor Frank [Ocean] ever made a cent cause it was an ‘original sound’ in every video”
“Most people didn’t even know it was me because my name didn’t show up”
“Next time your fave goes viral remember they aren’t making sh*t off that”
“The industry is beyond f*cked and musicians are getting f*cked harder than anyone”
Love and thanks to everyone for the kind words regarding 'Stop Trying To Be God'. @trvisXX is the glue. An honour to be part of one of the rides at Astroworld <3
Watching her break down how it’s been virtually impossible to be valued objectively as a woman in music was heartbreaking, and I think we should all examine whether we judge women’s art with an extra critical eye, and why.
Your friends might be smart but a therapist is ideally objective. The fact that they are an expert in psychology is a GOOD thing. Often there’s a traceable pattern that is more visible to a professional. But then be ready to be challenged.
Covid relief packages from the major labels and streaming services, for all black artists, whose main income was live performance after streaming platforms took away their royalties, and whose art and culture has been the driving force for years upon years.
Hiiii, haven’t had access to my piano recently but @steinwayandsons sent me one so I could keep this series going - here’s one of my favorites - Billie Eilish’s ‘When The Party’s Over’: smarturl.it/JB-WTPO
P.s. what a ridiculously good song this is @billieeilish & @finneas
People gotta stop acting like it’s a feature when somebody samples an instrumental section of a track from years ago... 🙄
That said, it’s flattering to be sampled and I was happy to clear it.

#rip Caroline Flack. This is the effect of online and print bullying. This is what dehumanizing and hounding people leads to. As a society we need to find our compassion and empathy. We don’t know what other people are going through as they almost always present an ‘ok’ front.
When you release a song and everyone is being so nice about it but you are frozen when it comes to promoting it because you underestimated how fucking painful and personal the subject matter still is so you stay in bed and panic
Losing a friend is hard
