Update: 7-5-26 / 2:50 PM Kalihi Attempted Murder of Law Enforcement Officer; Male Charged Today, July 5, 2026, this case was conferred with the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney. Following review, the case was reclassified, and the 42-year-old suspect was charged with two counts of Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree and Resisting an Order to Stop. Bail was set at $50,000.

Kalihi Attempted Murder of Law Enforcement Officer; Male Arrested On July 3, 2026, at approximately 6:00 p.m., District 5 Crime Reduction Unit officers observed a 42-year-old man working on a vehicle that was partially blocking the roadway. As they approached to investigate, the suspect quickly entered the vehicle. The suspect then drove directly toward one officer, forcing the officer to move out of the way to avoid being struck. The suspect then reversed toward a second officer, who also had to move to avoid being struck. During the incident, the suspect’s vehicle struck an unmarked police vehicle. No officers were injured. The suspect was arrested for Attempted Murder in the First Degree on a Law Enforcement Officer and Resisting an Order to Stop. The investigation remains ongoing.

🚧 Traffic Advisory: Saturday, July 4 🚧 If you're heading to Waikīkī for the Hawaiʻi America 250 celebration and fireworks at Kapiʻolani Park, plan for road closures on Kalākaua Avenue: 🕔 5:00 p.m. – Partial closure from Kaʻiulani Avenue to the Kalākaua/Monsarrat split. The makai lane will be reserved for emergency vehicles. Other lanes will remain open. 🕖 7:00 p.m. – Full closure of Kalākaua Avenue from Kaʻiulani Avenue eastbound past Sans Souci Beach to the Dillingham Fountain. ✅ Roads are expected to reopen around 9:00 p.m., or when it is safe to do so. Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use alternate routes if possible. The Honolulu Police Department continues its efforts to curb traffic injuries and fatalities by deploying impaired driver checkpoints from July 1 through August 31, 2026. Officers will set up checkpoints at unannounced times and locations throughout the city and county of Honolulu as part of ongoing efforts to make roadways safer. The department reminds the public that the legal drinking age is 21. Promoting intoxicating liquor to a person under the age of 21 is a misdemeanor offense punishable by up to one year in prison.
